After they acted like Jackanapes searching for game leaks they can shove this game where the sun does not shine. There are a lot of us that do not appreciate heavy-handed idiots that point fingers at others when the only people responsible for such leaks were themselves.
This isn't a big deal in itself, but BL3 didn't need more negative PR. It's been one big shit circus for what is doubtless going to be an incredible game.
Yeah, but since people pirate we all get to suffer.
Never understood that logic. Torrenters don't suffer from DRM. So why make those that pay suffer? Getting a free copy that hypothetically runs better without DRM while those paying get a (again hypothetically) lesser game with DRM is very anti-consumer.

The logic is rather simple. Most sales happen during first month. Pirated copy on torrents lower amount of sales by 50% almost instantly (my own experience with software development). So the devs are trying to delay hacks for the honeymoon (at least) to get as much money as possible before sales drop to zero in couple months.

I'm doubting the 50% lost sales for a few reasons but I can see the logic in believing it's true and trying to get as many sales as possible soon after launch.

Yes, not only that but the files are also bigger, and they pass the cost of denuvo to customers.
BL3 is $59.99 like every other game from a developer this size.
Or maybe they estimate that by installing denuvo their profit after denuvo cost will be better than profit without denuvo, but still the cost will be passed down to customer even when you don't see it in price change, because it is not cheap. Maybe they added in microtransaction who knows
Borderlands 3 Will Launch With Denuvo Anti-DRM Software
Denuvo is an anti tamper or anti piracy software NOT an anti-drm. Anti-DRM would be software to fight against digital rights management... Denuvo IS DRM software not anti drm.
Brenics ~ Just to point out I do believe Chris Roberts is going down as the man who cheated backers and took down crowdfunding for gaming.
These companies making games exclusive to their stores is a bigger issue to me than DRM. I generally do not like EPIC at all, they're up there with EA to me. So more than likely, I will torrent this and play alone. If I play it at all. BL1 was great, BL2 was good, BL3 is the exact same game, different story. They haven't even tried to make it any different, which is a sad thing for this IP.

So you're saying that when you buy something you're helping cover the costs of making that something?
Well im from Norway and i dont really care about anything like this, but why do america seem to whine so much?, just buy it on epic and play it from epic o.o' so simple.
I dont know why the companies even bother with DRM piracy will always find a way (imagine this in jeff goldblums voice).
TBH i think they should just not even bother with DRM in the firstplace as its not free for them to implement puts up the cost for the end user and it obviously does nothing to the people who get the illegal copies
Within a month this game will be done in and be playable and probably downloaded atleast 1 million times this is 1 million sales they have already lost out on due to DRM and Epic only exclusivity and when it eventually does hit steam they will lose out again because atleast 1million people have played it and most likely be bored of it by then 6 months is a long time.
Gearbox have really shot themselves in both feet this time, yeah it will report the game as profit but the lost sales will hurt them still and Randy Pitchford will be to blame because he is a nasty/greedy person and terrible magician (look at he borderlands 3 reveal the card trick he did was exposed to everyone).

That's why I recommend people join groups like r/patientgamers in my sig. This game will be just as good, if not better 6 months down the line. Why not wait? By then the impatient will have played and a real consensus will form. I still read preview impressions, reviews, and watch videos, but I tend to wait before buying to see what other genre fans and gamers have to say.
Also, waiting lets you know how the publisher is going to treat the game. There was some recent strategy game by one of the big publishers that added microtransactions 6 months after release. Some studios/publishers go weak on promised DLC if sales don't hit their targets. Waiting a few months lets you see how all that plays out.
i kinda wonder if they will stagger dlc to a similar epic exclusive manner?...... because that will obviously come down the line being a borderlands game an all!
i would kinda be surprised if epic sales dont go so well that they totally gget out of the exclusivity deal !
Since I refuse to use Epic Store these doesn't really affect me yet. Hopefully when it comes time to go to steam, they remove denuvo from it. One can pray atleast .
It's a big game. It'll be cracked quickly. I don't blame them for trying though, because of the Steam issue this could be one of the most pirated games this year.
I don't suffer from insanity, I enjoy every minute of it.

I think their response will be that if they don't sell enough copies they may not recover their costs and consequently go under - giving consumers less choice.
They may also suggest that without DRM they would have to increase the price - extra sales = extra revenue will easily cover the costs if Denuvo.
You forgot to mention btw that pirating could be a factor in deciding whether or not to have a cash shop as well.
This is an issue that has been around a long time. Its a reason that consoles are popular with developers and why GaaS is seen as a way forward.
