i think they just want copy BDO B2P model and cash shop, since it remained successful for awhile and made them a lot of money despite player hate over it's many flaws it was very profitable.

Which is why I don't believe Archeage at all. They might start out with vanity item, and gradually add more pay to win later on.
Not to mention BDO's success might have more to do with their mobile game than PC game. And I would guess many of their revenue is from Asian players, so it probably isn't very accepted from western gamers.
The funny about all of this is....they put a week long timer up yet hardly provide any information regarding this "revolutionary" decision they are making in regards to the game, such as providing how much it will cost up front, dates, "founder pack" options (because we know there will be those) and what will be in the shop (which will obviously be a shop because they said credits bought pertaining to the client will remain to that client). I think one thing people being 'optimistic' about this need to keep in mind is that pets/mounts/costumes all have perks in this game, so unless they were going to restructure that system for one client, I dont think this can realistically work with the ideology that both clients will update at around the same time/pace. But like I said before, I'll wait a few months after its live, should be enough time to make a proper assessment since that's when fresh start servers used to turn. From the face of it, it just sounds like an upfront wall to access fresh start. Lets not forget that they mentioned an Archepass with no details....

Too many people are getting caught up in "Gamigo is doing something that Trion wouldn't do" and forgetting Gamigo's history. It just feels too much like a paid to enter fresh start, especially since core information wasn't provided upfront after having this week long timer. I'd love to be wrong, thus is why I said I'll wait a few months after, but at the end of the day, its Gamigo....:

its the new adage, we will hype teh anoucement to hype the game to hype something else in the game and so on. pretty much they are using the know stall tactics as a normal tactic to entice people...
So a game that has been "literally" sucking their fans dry through P2W monetizations for 5 years, suddenly decides to turn it all around and offer up the same game to everyone for free after purchasing the base game?
Well, GW2 succeeded at doing this, but ArcheAge the game itself makes this whole "vision" an impossible concept. Such as, how do you handle in game property ownership? First come first serve right? So once all land slots are claimed, why would anyone else bother joining? In hopes someone doesn't pay the rent? Nah, this isn't going to work. You needed a subscription model in order to limit who can own land. This format you've described just sounds like another train wreck waiting to happen, but uhm, good luck with that.
They are saying everyone will be able to get land, but haven't elaborated on the details, coming "soon."
Interesting... land ownership for everyone? I'm curious how they're going to make that work.
Capping pop per server combined with at least 1 reserved plot per account is the only way that can work.
Also capping the max number of plots per account
Would have been nice if this system was in place 5 years ago.
But greed got the best of XL
Too late for me - no thanks as I have zero confidence in Gamigo.
As soon as sales slow down - boom cash shop p2w
That's just it. Certain trade packs are zone specific. So whoever gets the land in the obvious best trade pack zones gets the clear monetary advantage. Which means, failed game. This is all speculation of course as I'm sure they've thought about how to implement this for about 2 weeks, lol.
I don't think you know what you was saying since you could just bring the items required for the trade pack without having the farm in the zone, sometimes we did a guildy merchant run we would make the trade pack in the east and bring west
"Housing will be available for everyone. " I wonder how are they going to make this work?I remember everytime a new server opened the space was gone in hours. Are they making housing instanced? Or am I just misunderstanding the statement...
I don't understand how you have open world housing without enough land.
I never got far into AA because of P2W andna seemingly endless gear grind in a PvP environment. Meaning if you aren't a non lifer or credit card warrior you had no shot in PvP. Maybe I am wrong but that was my impression.
here was the deal it become like this the best credid card win after it hit f2p, during alpha you would just craft and recraft gear over and over, the best you could get was crafting, you need to do several gear and crit on crafting then, but you would raise your skill lvl on each piece done with would raise you crit chance the more you raised the skill lvl, but now you have to run dungeons for drops and keep doing repeats for token to make the weapons, before was optional then you was forced, because they nerfed the crafting
a TL DR for the whole topic on AA
don't bother to try and don't bother to even look, anything this game had was destroyed long ago, not only by trion but also by XLgames, and there is no way gamigo could save a game unless you belive being conned as saving
To me, this totally feels like "fool me once..." situation. Will stay away.
It is in this case, though I do think the age of any new subscription based MMOs is long gone. Anyone who has tried it or will try it will fail, triple A or Indie. Only the older MMOs people have invested a lot into survive, and they still offer cash shop fluff in some form.
They're doing the exact same thing both Black Desert and Bless did.
BDO started very fair - now it has a ton of P2W.
Bless is a total shitshow.
AA is a better game than Bless but the publisher is awful.
Expect AA to go P2W after sales slow down - just my 2c - I wouldnt touch this with a 10 foot pole - but that's just me
Look at Gamigo and their other games - P2W to the core.... why would this be different longterm, it's pretty obvious what the plan is - get players back and then turn P2W to 11
I meant more that the game was free, but now it'll have a price tag.
If i'm not mistaken, both Bless and BDO were F2P titles before coming to the West, with BDO's dev infamously saying the price tag was what prevented P2W from being implemented....before they did it away.
They're two different games. The PvP in WoW is completely meaningless. It affects literally nothing substantial regarding gameplay. Gamers who want engaging pvp aren't going to be satisfied with WoW for long or at all. I'm not sure what people get out of WoW pvp other than smack talking in Stormwind. I wouldn't think an open world pvp game like AA would appeal to them tbh.
Wouldn't other pvp mmorpgs like DAoC etc blown wow's pvp scene out of the water by that logic?

DAoC came before WOW and yes, it pre-emptively blew WOW PvP out of the water.
Having said that, early WOW had kind of fun PvP when large groups would gather or someone decided to go after all leaders of the opposite faction storming the cities. I still use my Black War Bear from that achievement
I've always said that PvP in MMOs is best for large group battles. 1v1 ganking with the huge effect of level disparity is kind of pathetic compared to the non-MMO games that create an even playing field for that type of PvP.

While Gamigo may suck in all sorts of other ways they can only do what XLGames permits in terms of monetization.
So no way will I pay XLGames a 2nd time for AA, which I still consider my first time around being one of my greater game buying mistakes.
