That could be said for any MMORPG. Whenever I cant find a group in EQ2, I just try to find some lower level quests that I havent done yet, and finish them. If some quests can't be solo'd, and you are having a hard time finding a group for them, put them on hold. Then after you level up a few times, come back and finish them by yourself. Even if you get little or no xp from them, you will learn a little more about the world, and maybe get some items to sell.
This is really true at the higher levels, for some quests you wont get any xp because your level is too high, but you still get a nice item to sell for some gold.
What you have to do to find a group in like 5 min is. Type /who then find people your level and whisp em.And keep going down the list whisping people. And when somebody says yes invite em.

Another way is be a healer or some kind of damage dealer. Very often healers are the most demanding class in the game, everyone wants one. Its not just one healer its two. You could also fill a group up with three damage dealers. So your odds of getting a group is very high playing these classes.
As for a tank class. A group often only needs one tank. Tanks are already a dime a dozen in EQ2 anyone could find one any time. Its just that once that group have that one tank, your odds of getting into that group is very low.
Have played: CoH, DDO EQ2, FFXI, L2, HZ, SoR, and WW2 online
Group-based? Don't make me laugh. After they changed the zones around, heroic mobs became rare to find. Sure, I can't solo them (being a healer and all) but in a group they're ridiculously easy. And since there's not that many of them around anymore, we can usually clear an entire area before they respawn.

You must have quit before the expansions then. Because there is tons of solo content now. I recently came back and there is so much stuff to do solo that I can have fun even when I don't have time to group.
Matter of fact SWG is my favorite game but EQ2 has improved so much that I haven't logged into SWG other than to check my harvesters on my crafter.

I don't typically look for groups but if I do I don't run around shouting I just set my LFG flag and if it takes more than 5 minutes to get in one (hehe I'm usually invited within the first 1-2 minutes) I'll just use the tool to search for people looking for a group within my level range and form my own.
It's not hard and you get a group together in minutes that way. It baffles me that anyone has trouble finding a group in this game. It couldn't possibly be made any easier.

As a healer, i had minor wait times LFG. Usualy i find a group i nthe matter of minutes (single digit minutes that is). This is the 2nd game ( after WoW ) that I actualy liked being a healer.
I am the type of player where I like to do everything and anything from time to time.

Dude do you even play EQ2? It is actually alot of fun to solo in from time to time. As to finding groups? We just told you how to get one. Duh.
From I understand, Blizzard and SOE blatently stole from each other during development, and both stole from every current mmorpg and simply polsihed their respective games to a high sheen. WoW may have more solo content, but both are the same with group designed areas.
Both copied the same basic game flaw from EQ.
Your group "must have" a tank/healer, then crowd control and dps. The dependance on "must have" classes, or the perception that you will fail without them, leads to these problems. There always seem to be a shortage of tanks, or healers, when you need them, but an abundance of DPS.
Why can't a rogue "tank" as well as a warrior? Sure, it has leather armor, thus cannot absorb as much damage, but it can "avoid" attacks altogether more often, or should be able to. And when they hit they should take "less" damage, because the blows glance, rather than fully connect. If Steven Seagal was in your group he'd be a monk. But he could tank as well as a warrior, because he'd block, parry, dodge most of the time.
MMORPGs need to break away from the sterotype group set up, make ALL classes welcome, useful, get rid of "must have" classes, and encourage unconventional groups, and educate players that these type of groups can succed just as well.
I wouldn't call it bad design. It's *a* design but it's neither bad, nor good. It's just one of many possible ways to organize group dynamics. You may not like it but it does work. Just because you don't like the way it's laid out doesn't make it wrong.

Actually I very rarely have a tanker AND a healer in a group. If you have a GOOD enchanter/Illusionist/Coercer, you don't have to have both in a group. Matter of fact I can't tell you the last time I was in a group with a tank.

I agree fin, why not bump up the AC on the dps classes, not much just enough to survive a half decent fight. Make tanks do a bit more damage, not much, but enough so that if you have 2 of a class they can somehow turn on the juice and be productive. I think this would make people wanna play tanks even more, and if there isn't a tank then the group can still viably kill normal mobs at least.
Maybe they couldn't tank uber boss creatures but at least make the exp grinding fun. Not a drastic change but a subtle one to help include people, rather than excluding.

Kewl man, what is the pop like? Not that I care for now, just interested. I'll be starting patching before I go to the gym tonight. Whats your char name?
Glad that I enjoy soloing, because EQ2, which is MUCH improved from commercial release, is having a serious problem with # of people playing at any one time. Last night (Saturday night, for cripes's sake!) there were a total of 66 people in Antonica -- 66, in that huge a zone, is underwhelming. And makes getting a group together to do any of the quests that are effectively group-requiring... difficult at best.
What I fear, though, is that it will get WORSE when they unveil the "combat upgrade", as they're billing it. Too many will leave because it requires them to change their "tactics"; others will just complain because something is being changed. Just don't see how the combat upgrade is going to help get more subscribers in... but I can see where it would do damage. I guess I'm not that optimistic when it comes to sweeping changes being made to a game, with respect to those changes drawing in new players. Too many (including and especially by SOE) of these big, sweeping changes (like SWG's "combat upgrade") that achieve the opposite -- reducing populations, not increasing them.
Hope I'm wrong. I'm enjoying EQ2 the way it is, though there are things (that I've already spelled out on these forums) that they could improve, certainly. But 66 people in Antonica on a weekend... brrr..... Very lonely.

Hey anarchy, absolutely no offense intended (please don't take it that way), but do you actually get anywhere in the MMO's you play? It seems like you switch MMOs every couple of weeks
I recently went back to playing EQ2 on Runnyeye server and must admit the populations are much lower in the 20-30 range than they were on release. I took my lvl 20 into Fallen Gate at peak time there was like a total of 5 other people in there! There used to be like 3 full instances at that time. Had similar experiences with my lvl 30 although there were a few more in RoV to group with.
It seems to me there are plenty of long term players who have characters at level 40+ but very few low to mid level players which is very worrying for the future!
