World of Warcraft Classic: Review In Progress - MMORPG.com

This past week Blizzard opened the doors on World of Warcraft Classic, and I took my first steps back into a world I haven’t seen since 2006. I purposefully spent very little time in the beta and stress tests to minimize fatigue and enable me to have a clear impression of it right from the beginning. Make no mistake; this is not a recreation of the game it was when it first launched back in November 2004, rather a recreation of what existed before Burning Crusade rolled out in 2006.

and no its not Nostalgia as many will tell you , its a great Social MMO with an immersive world and outstanding lore , where crafting matters , and builds are fun ..

It feels so good equipping white and grey pieces as upgrades. Seriously what jackass at Blizz decided it would be "neat" to devalue every piece of gear and hand out epic gear as quest rewards.

Classic is truly a remarkable game, never gets boring leveling a character.

It's funny to see after so many years OFFICIAL in-game messages about server restarts...:)

That is pretty much the result of players crying about replacing Epics with Greens at the beginning of BC because in their minds they should never have to go backwards again. So they made it so the Epics from a previous expansion lasted longer into the new expansion, and then getting back to having epics was much easier.

It's the first MMORPG in years that I find myself wanting to play as soon as I can. It's the social part of the game which so many other MMORPGs are lacking that's pulling me back in everyday. I didn't think it would be possible to become addicted to an MMORPG again since World of Warcraft Vanilla- but here we are. There and Back again.

Same, Honestly about a month or two ago I had come to the realization that i was officially done with MMO's. The old one's no longer hooked me and the new one's released or coming out did absolutely nothing to get me excited.

   I returned back to classic last week with the intention of doing a quick trip through Nostalgia land. Maybe i would do a quick run through iron forge and level to 10 and call it day, Nope. I'm having a blast playing Warrior and taking the game at my own pace. The only Nostalgia i am still running on is the hook of a great MMO.

If only it were true classic. Too many modifications and under the hood changes have been made. What a shame. I hope everyone is having fun though! People are already raiding Molten core and its been out... less than a week? Not sure why people rush it since theres a cap... They're gonna make themselves bored as hell and quick.

Definately the most fun i have had since Lotro Pre F2P. It's not nostalgia since I didn't play wow until Wotlk. It's nice having to work for stuff again. Lots on social interaction that doesn't exist in games anymore. Just good old fun

It's a kind of magic really. You step in Classic and you are suddenly transported back in time when MMOs were truly a sociable experience. One week on and I thought the novelty would start wearing off me, instead I find myself wanting to play more and more.

The real world is such a ****show at the moment, thanks goodness Classic WoW is here

It's funny cause I stopped playing WoW back when it was classic WoW so for me it would be the same as it was when I left.

I said that the game will rapidly decline after several weeks - also what Blizzard said in their interview.

This is the expectation - this is common sense - it has nothing to do with what is happening a week later lol

Give it time - the decline is coming - it's inevitable.

But as far as people having fun right now - of course - I never said it wouldn't happen. It just won't last for a long time.

Also is Blizzard adding more servers still - if they don't add any more this week and keep adding more in the following weeks - it means the game is not growing.

Remember Vanilla WoW grew for years - it peaked in 2010 - 6 years post launch - they were adding servers for 6 years.

This won't happen with classic - it will start to decline rapidly in the coming weeks - that's what I said, that's also what Blizzard devs said in the interview - that is the expectation.

No, you said it will rapidly decline in the first 2-3 weeks ( i can find that post of yours if you want me to ) . Now is several weeks. I wonder what you'll say after several weeks. Several months?

I love it and will be playing it for years. I"m hoping for Classic+ with new content in the spirit of Vanilla and forgoing TBC and other expansions.

Man the stupid epeen swinging in here by some folks... I could give a crap what some nobody on the mmorpg forms thinks is going to happen to a game, if I'm having fun, I really really don't care, but man does it get tiring hearing people rubbing thier crystal balls this furiously.

The initial rush was larger than they expected - nothing surprising. I said that the initial rush would be huge - but I never made any predictions that they would be opening more servers in the first week.

Again this is the honeymoon week. 

Lets see what happens in week 2 and week 3 - which will be as the devs predicted - decline. 

I hope it declines cause I love the game a lot only thing I hate is people everywhere fighting to claim mobs it takes long to complete quests cause its overcrowded. Also a lot of idiotic chat everywhere problem is also retail players can join in anytime its included with their sub and they dont join to play they join only to talk shit all day. Let's hope they get tired soon and some leave cause its harder to level everyone is broke most things in auction sells with silver most times you can barely train new skills as you level cause money is hard to come by and most use linen bags 6 slots lol.

Edit: All I hope is a good year or maybe 2 of classic is more than enough to satisfy my mmorpg hunger as new games dont feel like mmorpg this still does.

This is what few on this forum are doing - twisting my words into something I never said and then posting it here - it's pure lies.

The same but with 1 minor difference; I hope the "branch off" happens after TBC. I consider BC a great expansion and "the Kunark of WoW".

After we have time in Outland tho.... New content please.

Also the dropoff from launch day to day 2 is indeed a rapid dropoff.

Now of course this is just twitch viewership and # of twitch channels - it is not a read of in game classic population. 

But it does show a massive drop of in twitch viewership in the first 2 days alone.

Just like .. movies right? A very high spike in the first days ( week ), following with a "decline" in viewers, which is ..very, very normal. Same here.

well i remembered classic with more "love" , ugh the amount of running , the amount of eating/drinking , the gameplay isnt that fun (as mage ) , but oh well still "enjoyable"
