The biggest problem facing EVE Online is convincing players to stick around. Courtesy of friend and former colleague of ours, Steve Messner, PC Gamer reports that developer CCP is implementing a company-wide initiative to solve to problem of players bailing-ship: including grief counseling for their first big death.

    Question is would this game really lose a lot of players if they just allowed you to respawn back with your ship after it being destroyed? Would it hurt destroy the economy? Or could you just replace that with something like time degade? I mean is the point of this game griefing? or realism?

    It's also ok to not enjoy games with systems like this. Plenty of others around.

    It would totally destroy the game. I don't care what anyone says Classic wow was/is a success again because everything has value & meaning.

    Lets be honest MMO's are all about the time investment and what your time represents . If you put 100+ hours into a MMO and nothing has value , whats the point ? Its really that simple. I believe there is this whole psychology aspect to MMO's that no one really gets and then we all scratch our heads when new MMO after new MMO fails.

    A MMO has to have substance and meaning to your time investment.

    90% of the people who quit are "ganked" in highsec where they think they are protected and lose everything and say fuck it I'm done I love eve its a game i just cant stay away from but the douchebaggery is crazy eve's worse enemy is its own player base honestly. I do beleave more messures needed to be taken with the suicide ganging bs but you know that should have happened like years ago fixing it now is a waste of time

    Yea, um... this... seems to miss the point by a bit.

    I guess it's a videogame equivalent of Thoughts and Prayers (without actually doing anything to address the actual problem).

    Not gonna lie, I'm no fan of rouge-like perma death gameplay these days; used to not annoy me as much. I'm thinking more along the lines of SWG where your stuff breaks over time and with death rather than boom all gone start a 0 after one fuck up. It kept crafters in business and gave me something to do, I loved it. Even though it hurt when that 20mil Geo Sonic Blaster broke, it gave me a reason to hunt for a better one. No joke I had to schedule shopping days into my game time just to re-equip my character after all my stuff became too degraded to use.

    Not the 100 million dollar ship lost that makes them crazy....it is the 100 billion dollars worth of other stuff they were carrying around in the ship....

    Eve's problem is not the new player losing a ship it is the asshats like CODE that the problem resides with.  People that prey on people that cannot fight back are basically cowards and no game should support them one iota.

    I saw this and laughed my ass completely off my body, got it stitched back on, only to laugh it off again when I read this.  EvE Online is not the game for you if you are looking for sympathy.  Hell, even CCP made a music video titled HTFU.  There is no problem with CODE, PIRAT, or other gankers.  If you undock the ship, it will explode sooner or later.  Suck it up butter cup.

    hardly any free to players stick round as they realize before they hit the skill cap to were they need to pay that the game is now 80% pay to win/pay to play as isk making has been heavily nerfed over the years with a lot of content designed around you loosing high isk costing ships to fuel there plex sales. a lot of the older players including me self have left as the came has been destroyed over the years and what once had vast potential is now a meh kind of game, is still the only space mmo though so it wont die for a long time yet as nothing else to go to and some people don't mind using the credit card a lot for digital items.

    Looks exactly like a rapist "counseling" the victim afterwards to avoid consequences i.e. report to police - or quitting the game in this case.

    Well may be if you don't play this game you won't need to grief or if you insist grow a pair. I used to counsel for suicide hotline no matter what I say, they still do it. The only thing they did was vent out to me before they died, counseling doesn't really help.

    CCP should ban all existing scammers (since they are bad people), fix all stupid bugs, like trade scams, and forbid high sec ganking, so new players will see possible friends in other player around, and not afraid them, as they have to do now.
    Because, currently for major part of new comers to EVE, the game appears to be a solo game with very hostile environment of scammers, gankers, and other nasty groups of players, who are not looking for a fair PvP fight, but only seeking ways to spoil someone else fun in EVEe.

    It's not a bad idea, EVE is a difficult game to understanding in the beginning and it's very easy for new player to lose a ship from making a mistake of one sort or another. 

    I spent weeks reading everything I could find before first starting,  and I learned of many pitfalls and how to avoid ganking and griefing, most everything except....proper ship fitting.

    So I scrimped and saved to buy my first battle cruiser, slotted it with whatever modules my meager skills could support and then tackled a tier 3 mission. (Without reading up on it first) 

    So of course I triggered the spawns all wrong and with my poor fitting I was quickly webbed, scram'd and blown from space.

    I was pretty pissed because I had definitely flown a ship I could not afford to lose and I really had no idea about what mistakes I had made to suffer such a fate.

    Now, a lesser pilot might have quit at this low point, having lost a month of progress but as I had just paid for a months sub on two accounts as the trial period had ended, I took an alternate approach. 

    I cheated.  Yep, went out and bought two billion ISK, from gold sellers instead of CCP even, (better exchange rate) so that I could now well afford to lose some ships without too much concern.

    So my thought to better retain new players is to have the grief counselors first explain what was done wrong, then explain how the PLEX system works, and then offer to sell them a PLEX at a big discount, say 50% off.

    Big wins all the way around I'm thinking.

    You might think Eve is like a joke, but I can tell you right off the bat it taught me that's life it's no different. I have been scammed in real life too, this game have taught me to be careful in real life. If it wasn't for this game 20 years ago, I wouldn't have made it for real, because in real life there are a lot of bad people, who won't blink to screw you, being nice won't help you survive.
