Bad/Good MMORPG's

Quick question. What is the best mmorpg you have ever played and the worst one you have ever tried/seen. State both with a reason why these are your choices.

Best Mmorpg: Pre-Weightless Pyreal Asheron's Call. This game had everything right with it, from items, quests, customization, exploration and more, it simply exceeded my expectations at the time I played it.

Worst Mmorpg: Asheron's Call 2. So much was expected, so much was lost. A very horrible sequel for a game which deserved much more. (Also note that it was NOTHING like AC1)

There - The best Virtual World i've seen. Has the best graphics and physics then any other Virtual World out there. The community is friendly and the possibilities are endless. The sencery is amazing and the ancient ruins are done perfectly.

Second Life - Has the worst graphics, physics, and community imaginable. They're always after your money, the cost of land is way too high. The avatar animations are shitty and the building tools are a joke. Over all, a bore and not worth the time or money to sign up.

Shadowbane - My all time favorite MMORPG, but when it first came out. I played form day 1 and really understood how things worked. Me and my friends basically caused our whole server to fail, was great times, weaving a great story in and out of plot lines, in and out of treaties and wars. It was a game that really let us take control of the pen and let us write our own servers history and affect it's outcome.

World of Warcraft - Was hard to choose between this and lineage 2, only factor was Lineage had much more fun gameplay. World of Warcraft was a joke, an insult to seasoned MMORPG players, it was just too casual and too easy, for a game based off of the warcraft series it was very content poor, classes were too cookie cutter, and all the quests were repeats of previous quests. But not trying to start another WoW debate thread, just my opinion from the games I have played.

Best - Ultima Online, for sheer stuff to do. A very fun game.

Worst - Matrix Online, for being a buggy, lag ridden waste of money.

Speaking of Matrix Online... Is that basicly just a city you walk around in? If so sign me up!

Good=Old UO pre T2A-AOS then it went down. not great graphicaly but as far as freedom ,crafting , PvP hunts etc..etc... games today could take many notes off of old UO.

Bad= Horizons IMO i played it when it came out and was severely disapointed . The crafting was ok but nothing else seemed worth doing in the game.

    Best

    -----

    1) Old UO (when the REAL Lord British was around)

    2) Old SWG (Pre-CU)

    3) L2 (If you havent played Lineage2 since C3 release... you dont know what you are missing)

    Worst

    ------

    1) WoW (way over hyped... childs game)

    2) EQ2 (no PvP means limited top end content)

    3) GW (no seamless world and lack of content)

Best - EverQuest.  My first mmorpg ever and by far the one with the most content and depth of all the games I've played.

Worst - Lineage 2.  Way too much of the grind with not enough fun to make up for it.

  • SiphonsSiphons Member Posts: 445

oh gosh, best is my first mmo, Anarchy Online. depth there that most don't stick around long enough to see.

worst is tough, because I'm very spiteful. I guess I'd say MxO. I just played beta, but it was the worst thing imaginable for the industry I think. To top it off, it's owned by SOE now! how fitting. worst example of franchise whoring out there =(. I hope star trek online doesn't repeat.

The best mmo i have tried is deffinently WoW because it gave a good short term and long term gameplay

THe worst and i mean the worst game i ever played was Guild Wars because from the start your gaming takes an hour just to walk from quest giver to giver they have a teleport system that helps after u walk to all the cities which takes forever so think of it as if you like to walk and see nicely made landscapes then you might like this game other wise it sucks majorly

WoW i would deffinently say best because of its amazing graphics and combat system it recreated EQ into a more diverse world and given many new oppurtunties into the gaming world such as Mailing System the Diablo Set Items witch brought on alot of new types of gamers

    The best was Everquest.

    The worst Horizon.

The best is WoW. I think its just great all around. It has had so much added to it, plus i love the pvp, and huge community. Whats the point in playing an mmo with out a community.

the worst, idk its either everquest or Daoc. i played both, just seemed like a grind and waste of time. I guess WoW has this effect of ppl

Well I can't say best because whats the best for me certainly would not be the best for others, so I'll go with my most and least favorite.

    My Favorite: SWG

I had a wonderful time with SWG all the way from beta to a few months ago, really wish things would have gone a different path of there but oh well, what can you do :).

    Lest Favorite: MxO

Another game I was part of beta from almost day one, it was supposed to take over for my SWG addiction but saddly the longer I stayed in and 2 months after release it was pretty obvious where the game was heading. Now it's a relic to what could have been a wonderful game and although I still have a subscrtiption there I never ever log in. Such a shame.

Now I'm left in MMO limbo, having to settle to play a game that just sort of gets me by (EQ2) but hopefully something in the future will take over for SWG used to give me.

BEST: Ultima Online pre trammel, best PvP ever. Shadowbane, the only good pvp game on the market.

WORST: World of Warcraft, they stripped the "War" from that concept.

  • ufretinufretin Member Posts: 3

BEST: Shadowbane test server. fast leveling so you can get right to the real game which was pvp and seiges easy money so you can get the gear you need

WORST: City of Heroes. Slow leveling, extremely repetitive, was kind of hard to solo, and no real pvp

Best: DAoC, my first and favorite. great community, PvP sucked before, but now its gotten WAY better with the release of the classic servers (no ToA) grinding is almost non existent (sure sometimes you gotta grind to get to the next lvl to pwn in RvR) and if you get bored of killing npc's, you can hit RvR at ANY lvl because of the battlegrounds (example lvl 5-9 bg's and so on)

Worst: Tibia. shitty NES graphics, terrible community, full of asshole PK'ers and KS'ers. its fun at first, but after about an hour it just sucks ass. all you do is grind, and theres no story and no point to it. PvP blows, you always outmatched in some way or another, even againt lower lvl ppl. plus, its named after your leg bone, i mean how gay is that

    Best: Eve Online at launch

Worst: Eve Online just prior to the Cold War patch (haven't played it since)

    ---sig---

PvE in general is pretty lame, if you think long and hard about it. You are spending your time beating a severely gimped AI that would lose to a well trained monkey. Best not to think too long and hard why you are wasting time playing games in general actually...

Best:  (short term) WoW ,    (long term)  Asheron's Call 1

    Worst:  FFXI
