A new nearly AAA MMO is on the way "CorePunk"

vtravivtravi Member UncommonPosts: 400
I just saw on IGN an article about a MMO that hits open Beta next year. It has a team of 100 working on it from the Netherlands. It looks great although I am not sure about the top down view. They haven't announced payment model, although they say it will not be pay2win. (fingers crossed for sub only)

Check out the website, I am curious to hear what people think

It's refreshing for a polished mmorpg to be announced that isn't asking me to help fund it or wait 5+ years for it.

Doesn't every developer/publisher say no p2w? I mean I'd like to meet one who'd say "Definitely will be p2w at some point in our game" just for lulz.

Is this some kind of cheap advertising campaign? Never heard of this game, and where is the article link?

The trailer warns there are sexual themes. All I saw were WoW like cartoons. Jessica Rabbit must be in the end game somewhere.

Yea, I won't hold my breath until I see the Pricing. If it is F2P then I will be far less excited for it.

I can see they get influenced by dota2 , LOL or MOBA wide , have little wildstar humor and Archeage type of skill build .

Little lack of derection but have great potential

i like to see more MOBA play style mix with MMORPG and a little harvest moon farming gameplay

Wildstar meets Torchlight, in slow motion?  Why is the movements so damn slow?

yawn 2021 at least, class and skills based on weapon.  Hard pass

This looks good. Reminds me of the NC Soft moba game.

You have to pay to unlock the faster movement.
    Come on guys!
    You know how it is.
Jaykay, but the slow movement might get old after a while.
That mount &/or train looked barely faster.
    Where's my 310% mount speed?  >:)

Could be interesting, unless it's like Albion Online, which I couldn't get into for some reason.

    Gut Out!

    What, me worry?

Looks good, reminds me of MH, too slow though and it would drive me crazy after a while moving so slow.

Top down turns me off instantly, unfortunately. Wildstarish graphics and combat elements don't help much either.

It feels like its gonna be an Early Access title.

I did like the narrator at least.

    Reminds me of Torchlight.
As mentioned above, the slowness stood out to me, but it could be like some games where your character doesnt start getting speed boost items until later int he game.

Ill keep it on my radar, but nothing I feel is worthy of following closely.

This looks like WoW lite. I will give it a shot, but it looks like a strange mix of a MOBA/WoW/Albion Online...

Eh yeah no.  One of the things I hate about arpg's is the dang top down view...add in the slow motion movement of this game and meh pass from me.

Gave the website and trailer a look, pleasently surprised. The world actually looked pretty interesting, a good mashup of genres that seemed like it would provide me with a lot of what I'm after. It looks like the sort of game I could, potentially, enjoy as a single player title.

However, a lot of problems popping up in the trailer:

    - Top down view. Just uggghhh. A large component to retention within MMOs is attachment to your character. Can't become attached to something you can barely see!

    - Trinity. Tank/heals/dps is too shallow for me, it's like the starting point, the bare minimum. I need more roles, more options, more depth to get me engaged.

    - Mouse-click to move! Guaranteed to drive me nuts within a few hours of gameplay, let alone months of sustained play.

    - Shallow combat. This is a bit of an assumption, admittedly, but from the video it looked like you didn't have many skills, so the combat is likely to be very shallow. That means I'll be bored very quickly.

    - Vertical progression. Already the video talks about leveling up, getting better gear and weapons, boosting stuff, continuing to earn XP for gear after u hit level cap. NO! Vertical progression is stupid for MMOs, it segregates the community, makes all content redundant and guarantees the PvP community will be small and new blood scared away. It's just a dumb design decision for this genre if you want your MMO to have staying power. If you don't care about retention and just want the churn then fair enough, go vertical as it's what works for the solo crowd.

Will keep an eye on the game though, despite the problems I spotted there is a lot of assumption involved, more details might show me to be wrong. However, sounds like it might be releasing in a similar timeframe to CU, and CU gets my vote.

    A giant BIG flat NO.

These games that are using top down view and look like ARPG's are not even remotely close to being even a AA mmorpg. This game is a complete dud, does not look good and because of that i didn't look any further into it.

100 people on that...THAT,,pfft what are they doing ,drinking coffee and eating doughnuts all day? With a team of 100 they should be able to pull off a real good quality game.

I do understand demographics and that it would be MUCH easier to pull off higher quality games in China for example because wages are so incredibly low,the overhead would be very low.A lot other nations around the world would have very high overhead fro ma team of 100 and be trying to whip out a game in very quick order before costs get too high.
It really is an unfair market but not my problem,i only care about the games i want to play.

Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.

It does have a sort of Albion feel about it.
It looks like they used the same engine.

"Suit Up! It won't make you stronger, but you'll look absolutely fabulous..."

    I like their attitude!

They did mention PvP, so I'm skeptical. Info is on their forums and I don't feel like wading through that for answers. I can wait :)

The top down seems rather fixed, though I could be mistaken. I did not see the camera move in/out at all during their gameplay stuff.

It does look interesting, though. Let's see what happens, shall we?

    - Al

Personally the only modern MMORPG trend that annoys me is the idea that MMOs need to be designed in a way to attract people who don't actually like MMOs. Which to me makes about as much sense as someone trying to figure out a way to get vegetarians to eat at their steakhouse.
