I have to say, when my friend first told me about Hero's Journey, I checked the game out, and did a little digging into Simu... and I told him he had better not get his hopes up, because I highly doubted the game would come out due to simu being such a small company. Not that they wouldn't be able to make a finished game, but because they would go the same route WoW did, and not be able to handle their success. Granted, if this game goes to gold, they'll be raking in such ludicrous amounts of cash that they'll have to triple their current numbers just to stay in control of this beast. They'd fall prey to the fact that they'd be unable to handle their own creation. I've seen it happen... the most current example being Dark and Light.
When I took a second look at the game several months later, however, and read more and more information as it came out I began to root for the damn underdog (which is what this basically is). Hey, anyone that can keep people paying for their text based MUD in this day and age has to have some good stuff going for them.
I'm usually pessimistic when it comes to MMOs, especially after certain promising let downs, but heres to the under dog! I hope to God this game works out, because its exactally what I've been waiting for since MMOs came out. *still has his disk from the original release of UO when it first launched*
See, there's lots of things I'm expecting from HJ now, like a GOOD RP server with GMs who will say something to those OOC (like other simu games).. or that they won't let me down like Fable did.. (I actually got rid of my X-BOX 10 days after buying it and playing Fable a little, because Microsoft sucks and the X-Box BROKE and nobody would do anything about it.. besides me paying more money...)
My friend told me not to get my hopes up on Simu, he's a long time DR-er like I am, but I'm more optimistic towards them.
All I do is look forward to this game, I'm actually going to be building a computer just so I CAN PLAY the game..
There are some things I want to know, like is it going to have to be bought in a store or downloadable (I'm assuming bought) and I REALLY WANT TO KNOW what they're going to be CHARGING.. I would love to be able to spend thousands of dollars a year to help support them, but I can barely support myself and if it cost more than DR does, even though I'll probably go to a premie account on HJ, 40 dollars a month for that is a LOT. If I have to I'll settle with a basic account, and I'm sure it will be worth more than 15 a month, more than 15 would be rediculous. Unless you get like 10 character slots, but that's just crazy talk.
3 slots for 15 would be perfect though..
Unlike FFXI paying stupid 12 or whatever a month for some crappy game that isn't even FUN. I got my WHM/SMN (Is that the abbreviation for summoner, I FORGET it's been a while) to 56 and I almost killed myself trying to get her there. I didn't even ENJOY IT. There was no good elements of RP, and those that DID RP got made fun of and oh boy did I get tired of the "noobs" (I don't mean newbies, I mean those who think they are leet and great at games) running around screaming for handouts and then the BIGGER "noobs" bashing them for being lower levels. Actually I think pretty much everyone who plays FFXI is a complete noob. If you can't type something literate that everyone can understand you're either crazy or need to go back to school...
Not that they're bad people or anything.. They just don't have good game socializing skills, like those you learn when you play DR. There's a common courtesy that you see, even if someone plays a mean character, there is a level of "We both know we're not complete idiots"
Yeah, so I'm rambling really bad..... There are so many things I want and so many things that would scare me away from this game... I understand it will be FUN to play it, but will it be fun to play it WITH people. I'm not terribly social, but I get into it sometimes, and I usually have a good circle of friends in any MUD or MMO that I've played.. but I don't want it to be ruined by those who just don't get it. Or by the game not being as good as I'm hoping...
And I leave it off here.. just uh because anything else will be way too redundant..
