Good Lord. We have no idea what the policy to buy ships in game is going to look like. We don't even have a hint of a launch date. Even ethical game makers change that stuff around until the last minute.
Given the sheer amount of money being made by selling ships, I do suspect that they will figure out a way (via a soft launch) to keep selling ships. And they will not make it easy for people to catch up with the whales who have been floating them for years and years.
We don't? They are on sale right now ranging from 20 million all the way down to 60k for in-game currency. You can earn money by hand using a mining tools upwards of 45k right now and with ships and an initial investment a million or better using a ship like the cat and not only can you buy ships in-game with in-game money but you can also rent ships via a much lower cost for up to a month with in-game money so that you can make use of it to both test if you like it and use it to help make money without needing to invest a big chunk right off.
You are also [At current - Nor planned to change] not required to pay a subscription to play. Once you buy the game one time for 45 usd or on sale 30 usd you have access to star citizen for life as it stands.
Damn, that renting system sounds terrible. So like, small fries are going to be renting the biggest baddest stuff for a fraction so that they can quickly progress to owning the biggest stuff?
It just doesn't sound like a solid progression system at all. Maybe a lot of people don't care about progression though.
Haters gonna get special editions of 20 different games at price of Kraken Privateer.
Fans gonna get gifs.
what part of you can buy all the ships in game with in game currency at launch that doesn't compute? Buying ships now is exactly like buying a kickstarter package. So sick and fucking tired all this god damn fucking trolling. don't even answer, you are blocked.
I am not hating I am just curious of a genuine answer and your not one white knighting the game to oblivion so I feel like your words carry a little more weight then the people defending every move.
Will ships be purchasable in a store after the game launches in a MTX store or only available with in game currency? If so do the ships you can buy on the MTX store give any kind of buffs that would give you a edge in PVP? That is my worry. If the ships continue to be sold a MTX store after launch then sure they may be purscable in game but how long will it take to grind to get a ship that cost $100. A week, a month, a few months, etc...
I don't even know if they have talked about these things.
Depending on what you start out with it is possible to earn a 155 dollar ship in game within a day or two. You can also hand mine in caves and on the surface of moons and planets earning around 30-40k an hour so about 42ish trips via hand mining would net you 155 dollar ship as well.
What ship do u need to start out with to earn $155 ship in 2 days? Only a few months ago it was $100 ship in 2 weeks and now $155 in 2 days, cant see that staying.
How long does each run take from station to planet, do the mining and back to station to sell?

I mean, they are like salesmen at this point. The facts about the released version aren't real yet, so they try and sell the best possible version to someone right now.
You can buy $155 ship in 2 days? How horrible is that? Not just for the person that blew $155, but for everyone that is interested in an interesting game to play that is well balanced and important.
Its always funny to see people getting riled at something that is in no way final or fixed yet. Thats why its call testing - including balance testing.
"Horrible", "terrible" .... calm the horses man ;-)

That's the question though. I always thought that renting would be some kind of an alpha feature. Is it a live feature or an alpha feature? The other guy was acting like it was going to be live.
"Depending on what you start out with it is possible to earn a 155 dollar ship in game within a day or two. You can also hand mine in caves and on the surface of moons and planets earning around 30-40k an hour so about 42ish trips via hand mining would net you 155 dollar ship as well."
This person talks about the CURRENT state of the game. Rates (rewards from missions, mining, trading etc.) are still subject to change.
Have fun
Wait, you're trying to tell me that after Arterius asked this:
"Will ships be purchasable in a store after the game launches in a MTX store or only available with in game currency? If so do the ships you can buy on the MTX store give any kind of buffs that would give you a edge in PVP?"
And the guy answered with this:
"Depending on what you start out with it is possible to earn a 155 dollar ship in game within a day or two. You can also hand mine in caves and on the surface of moons and planets earning around 30-40k an hour so about 42ish trips via hand mining would net you 155 dollar ship as well."
Are you trying to tell me that he meant that to apply to the CURRENT state of the game.
We have dev responses regarding the policy of buying in the in-game store after launch.
However, when it comes to earning rates, the devs said they are in testing and balancing mode. So the second quoted part "... to earn a 155 dollar ship in game..." may be valid NOW, but rates may change until the launch day.
Which you already knew, so it was a rhetorical question, neh?

Ignoring the context is typical. Luckily there is a record:
"Will ships be purchasable in a store after the game launches in a MTX store or only available with in game currency? If so do the ships you can buy on the MTX store give any kind of buffs that would give you a edge in PVP?"

I mean, at least admit the guy doesn't know shit. >>>
This guy talks about the current state of the game. Assuming he is no psychic with precognition, he is doing the right thing and talks about the current rates.

Well, everyone can read it themselves and come to their own conclusion.

You would need to either Hand Mine pretty hard doing 40 + trips and keep in mind the average hand mining trip is about 30-60 minutes if you know where to look or you would need something like a cat for trade runs which is a 295 dollar ship. So while I say 40+ trips hand mining I still mean a 40-hour effort solo so still a standard workweek and at the least amount of in game money investment of around 4000 uec for the hand tools and that is barring anyone shooting you and robbing you, screwing up and blowing your own head off by failing at the rock and causing it to explode etc etc. At current rates.
So I guess I should clear it up that when I say 2 days I mean 40+ hours or around two entire including nights.

It just doesn't sound like a solid progression system at all. Maybe a lot of people don't care about progression though.
Actually, the rental system is very useful and a highly requested system from players. Renting a ship or vehicle allows you the chance to use and test a ship or vehicle to see if you can or would enjoy owning it while at another point allows people with lesser money a chance to shoot for some better income.
For instance: A very popular wide range ship known as the Cutlass Black goes for 1,385,000 uec to actually purchase, however, if you wish to test and try the Cutlass Black for say a day you are looking at about 30,000 uec or for say 30 days you are looking at spending slightly over 500,000 uec. The prospector which is a mining ship sells for 2.1 million uec or it can be rented for between 45,000 and 770,000 uec for between 1 and 30 days.
So it does help give people a chance and not every single ship is rentable either, at least not for now.
Oh, I get it helps people and would be highly requested in alpha. But in the actual game is sounds horrible. Is this going to be a feature in the released game?
That is your opinion and you are certainly welcome to it, however, that is not how I or others feel about the rental system that opens up many avenues for pilots to enjoy the game.
Keep in mind that the game itself is purely player skill-based there are no classes or levels so in that sense you are not gated and as such there are IMO no "Winners" or "Losers" simply people doing things in a game they enjoy to reach goals they have set for themselves.
So, the rental system gives them a fair chance money wise to experience the content themselves that otherwise would take even longer to obtain and this isn't even including the future ships we will be seeing and people who've been playing a long time I believe would agree so don't knock it till you've tried it.
People in the game will prove that you'll wish there was a rental system when you run into pirates both NPC and player, for the most part, the game is wide open and soon will have a true prison system you'll pay the price if you go in thinking this is any sort of PvE enforced kids sandbox because that is just how tough it is out there.
So you're saying you believe it should be a part of the released game?
I thought I made it clear in my earlier post I am supportive of ship rentals, I guess that didn't get through well enough.
Yes, I believe ship rentals in the game are a good idea and I support having it in-game just like you can rent heavy equipment, cars, tools etc in real life without having to spend 50k on a backhoe or 100k on a front loader and instead give a few thousand to rent them I believe that some ships being rentable in-game is fine, that being said, I do not think "every" ship in the game should be rentable and should be restricted to Medium or less size ships and nothing labeled as "military-grade" so no hammerheads, reclaimers, orions, Idris, javelin or anything else considered large or capital class.
Doing this gives players, especially those who label themselves as "Casuals" a chance to experience more content upfront rather than having to spend weeks or months to purchase a ship to try it out they can rent it and still limit it in such a way as to give the hardcore players something for their invested time.
Yeah, you made it clear you thought it was a good idea. I think it's a terrible idea in the long run. In alpha it makes sense. In the actual game, it is terrible. You have backpedaled here by qualifying it, but the truth is, like Erillion said, you don't know what the fuck you're talking about. You have no clue what the actual game is going to be like. It would be nice if you stopped pretending to know.
All the sudden it's medium sized ships? [mod edit]
Great, but all opinion. I have not heard of any of these people, so, really, who gives a shit what they think?
Fake news, click bait.
I mean all these awards on any show or website are just opinion's. Doesn't make em fake news. Sekiro won game of the year at the Game Awards. Doesn't mean it was actually the de facto Game of the Year. I hated Sekiro.
Same thing when some reviews something and you don't agree. Its all just an opinion doesn't make your way of thinking right or wrong.
Uhh yeah well it does, if that person is trying to sell their opinion as fact. Which the title of this free advertisement piece did. So, again, it is complete bullshit or fake.
If you want a new idea, go read an old book.
In order to be insulted, I must first value your opinion.
It's ok. I knew he was fishing for support of his own agenda. I don't mind replying to things to both supply the best information I can and show my opinion on the situation as I know it.
As far as back peddling, I don't recall saying that I believe every ship in the game should be in the rental system and I don't think I said every ship actually is in the rental system so I believe that my attempt was to offer more clarity to where I stand on the rental system as it currently exists
I just want to know if the @BeansnBread has played or owns a copy of SC?
I believe that as someone who plays the game I am more than qualified to offer both my opinion which everyone is welcome to have far as I'm concerned and current known data when it comes to responding to questions in hopes of providing known info to questions asked.
You are completely qualified to offer your opinion.
Uhh yeah well it does, if that person is trying to sell their opinion as fact. Which the title of this free advertisement piece did. So, again, it is complete bullshit or fake.
Haha, no room for opinions in your world.
Bunch of staff are asked their opinion on which game has the worst MMO model and Star Citizen gets named multiple times with explanations as to why. It is literally an opinion piece.
You said you have recently bought the game and it seems you are tiggered by people disliking what you like.

So if most people put in 3 hour sessions each evening this is more like 2 weeks worth of playing barring any upsets like deaths, piracy, ship destruction etc. All of which could set back a person's progress dramatically.
Its always funny to see people getting riled at something that is in no way final or fixed yet. Thats why its call testing - including balance testing.

Well it has been 7 years, saying it is not fixed yet is probably not the best defense
I think it is sad people actually paying to do testing for a game in Alpha. I remember testing GW1, GW2, and WoW in both alpha and closed beta. I didn't pay anything for that.
Right now you are paying for the right to test this product which may or may not actually come out.
This game has generated more money and produced nothing. I mean ALL of the Toy Story movies together cost 530 million to produce and they were cutting edge at the time because the tech to produce the movies was written by the studio itself.
Say what you will, continue delay of this game release, means that the studio gamed the Kickstarter fans. It is obvious that Chris Roberts couldn't get regular funding as there was no basic business plan.
