    Hey Cameltosis,

Yeah I'm with you on the settlement building. When a wipe would happen and we'd have to start over, the first thing companies did was try to make as much money as they could. Then, they could buy the piece of land that they wanted and start building the settlement.

The settlement was the main reason for gathering resources, grinding, and yeah getting into PvP.

At this point, I don't know what to think. It sounds like Amazon got enough negative feedback toward the PvP aspects that they did a full 180 on it. I'm not sure why they changed the settlement building, except for maybe making your outer walls a maze, which I know we did a few times.

I don't think we ever got up to 500 player battles, but yes 200 player battle did happen and they were crazy. I did get a bit of lag/slide show in those, but it was still very playable and very fun.

If this game releases in May, it won't be much of a game, you will be lucky to get 50 hours of play time out of it.

In many countries they would be better off then, not only money wise but also in being treated like a decent human being. People don´t choose shitty jobs because they want to, they do so because there is nothing better out there for them. That´s why I loathe the whole `you can always leave if you don´t like it here` nonsense, its a lie.

I'll be buying New World regardless, this is the next step in the evolution of MMORPGs.

'This does not apply just to ED but SC or any other game. What they will get is Rebirth/X4, likely prettier but equally underwhelming and pointless.

It is incredibly difficult to design some meaningfull leg content that would fit a space ship game - simply because it is not a leg game.

It is just huge resource waste....'

they changed the scope from previously showed ?
From the sounds of it, yes.  Having played the Alpha and seen what they had in the game at that time, I was a bit worried as to what the game even was.  It was a mix of everything but not great at them in the slightest.  They took the Alpha servers down to add more PvE content and revamp their PvE experience so it will be interesting to see what they've add/done to the game.  They had a huge write up to alpha players as to why they were taking them down and what they were planning on doing.

That said, I feel another alpha or beta would be good for them to iron out the new stuff they added and to see the feedback of what theyve implemented. I feel that May of next year is a bit too hasty after what we saw in Alpha and for the reasons they took the servers down.  Going directly from Alpha into were going to revamp the PvE experience straight into full launch is a bit rough and I find it hard to believe that such a large company like Amazon is going to do this.

So the question is this, how much MMO is it really gonna be?

Will there be server with thousands of players on each like traditional MMOs or is it a semi MMO like Conan exiles?

I have played the first beta and honestly it is more one the Conan side rather than on the MMO side. Even if the servers can hold a lot of players, it will still be a survival game.

IMHO, better him with the Amazon and the space thing, and everything else they do, than the Purse/Shoe guy....

    Gut Out!

    What, me worry?

Does anyone know if you can use magic in this game? I have been trying to find out but can't find anything conclusive.

If this is going to be more of a mmorpg than a survival game i am in. I just hope it won’t end up a survival game with mmorpg mechanics.LOVED the ALPHA

After reading the three pages of this thread and seeing the comments by people who have played the game claiming it's more survival than MMO sent chills down my spine cause I was reminded of H1Z1. Before H1Z1 came out Smedley claimed that game was a MMO and it ended up being nothing but a bare bones no content but pretty survival game AND he now works at AGS! What a nightmare scenario repeating itself right before our eyes. If this ends up being exactly like what happened with H1Z1 a serious WTF for letting the guy who ruined SOE ruin AGS. Maybe don't friggin hire people who were failures at their previous job would be a good place to begin when starting a new studio.

This game was put on hold recently...why are you covering it?

    Performance
During my experience with 1080 gfx card and New gen I5 the game played amazing when out and about - especially considering the graphics fidelity and lighting in this world are insane. However, when getting near settlements and running into PVP - even smaller scale I had hitching problems and downright freezes for seconds at a time. Hopefully they fixed this...I wasn't the only one on the boards complaining. It's possible my lack of a NVME or SSD might have been part of this problem.

Gameplay..lot of people asked for more PVE. Looks like they might have upped that a bit - nice. There was a lot to do even as a solo or duo in the game. They really don't need PVE enemies..plenty of real life jerks will be waiting to test your mettle in this game. For a PVE guy this resulted in some good and bad experiences. It really heightened the sense of danger, and created some nice 'revenge quests' of my own making.

Most likely will be picking this up.

The testers are technically still bound by NDA not to discuss... which says a lot to me. Obviously, plenty of people don't value their word though.

Maybe because Amazon have just announced a release date for it. You sure you have the right game

Tried to like it but it's extremely boring at least in the alpha test. I may give it another try.

    The PvP.

The trailer shows reds - legionaries, conquistadors and a pirate(?) working together to storm a castle. Presumably this is one of the instanced 50 vs. 50 sieges.

Has this totally replaced open world PvP though?

What makes me wonder is that before the siege the trailer shows red legionaries vs. red conquistadors. And that "pirate".

Could they have adopted something along the lines of Pirates of the Caribbean? Which had port sieges and a mix of PvP areas - some designated, some FFA. Maybe the FFA will be in "unexplored" areas.

To be clear this is speculation on my part but its the type of thing that has been done before: a mix of safe and contested areas.

As someone who spent an embarrassing amount of time playing the Alpha the recently announced changes are really disappointing.

But the during the closed alpha player retention was really bad which may be one reason for the pivot.

Sad to know the New World I grew to love is gone

Survival games are a hard pass. They few that have made it like ARK are doing well. Most of these flop hard core. A few months in and it's 12 guys on a server building and forging stuff. It's the same with pure PvP games. Developers see that when these games make it, the content is the players. Lots of money for low upkeep.

Closed alpha testing the month of April... 1 month before release. Meaning another beta game to play.

If you like survival games you'll love this.  Majority of the MMO market will not play it though.  It's far too reminiscent on games like ARK

parts of this remind me of L2, looks interesting, much better than the first announcement anyway.

If you want a new idea, go read an old book.

In order to be insulted, I must first value your opinion.

Considering Amazons track record of actually launching games, I wouldn't hold my breath that it will. Even if it does, it's seems pretty clear that it's designed for and around twitch viewing which I'm personally not interested in. I have never watched a twitch stream and never will. I understand how popular it is though.

I wish them the best with it.
