So Star Citizen is about to add another planet...

And it's pretty "cool" (pun intended) as it's a massive ice planet. B)

It's called Microtech and every corner of it is explorable.
Which makes for some nice vistas from above...

And from the ground...

It's not just snow all over, the poles are warmer:
There's weather too, rain, fog...even blizzards.

There's a futuristic looking city as well, New Babage. Which looks pretty dope too.

Reminds me of Hoth planet from SW :)

Looks nice but that ship needs work..it was snowing inside the ship when all doors were closed. See 4:30 mark of the video above.

Brenics ~ Just to point out I do believe Chris Roberts is going down as the man who cheated backers and took down crowdfunding for gaming.

Since this is only the "persistent test universe" and not fully released to backers. I cant wait to see the final changes. the ice planet looks really pretty and fun to explore. the new ships seem promising. the multiple new spawns and punching mechanics seem fun.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f2HxS4iqwSQ seems there are more missions

https://starcitizen.tools/Star_Citizen_Alpha_3.8.0 much better break down of missions and the patch.

Microtech is amazing really, the new tech version with the initial weather bits created a really cool quality standard, there are just so many details they cared about ed on that add up together.

We were actually playing on PTU, pretty much on ground rovers in the middle of a snowstorm at night! It's damn pitch black on its own, even with the vehicle lights the storm didn't help lol

@Asm0deus the VFX does not appear to clip on some vehicles, but there is also snow like ground vehicle clips through bushes and so that'll need to be hidden

Sounds cool. May not agree with how they are raising money and how they keep inflating the game the more money they get but I have to get credit where credit is due and this is really neat. Hope the people who do play have loads of fun.
Why don't you play it? It's not that demanding in terms of hardware as one would think so. Along with a medium cpu/gpu it just need a SSD and 16gigs of ram.

I don't have a SSD. Nor do I have the money to get one at the moment.
Alright but they are dirty cheap right now, one can get a 240gb for less than 40 bucks.

The outposts and such always give some trading and missions, this planet specifically has a city landing zone that will release interiors later so it should be another player hub.

This tech, v4, is what has been the focus before investing much on content within planets because the tech had to reach a quality level on the planet generation so the planets will not have to be generated again, otherwise, they would have much work to implement a new version because all the content placed in would need to get sorted again.

SSOCS also releasing with this update that is a major backend optimization on the server-side finally allows the addiction of far more AI and other stuff without degrading server performance, so surfaces will get more content.

The gameplay is not much different from space as the game mechanics are the same, be that an FPS AI mission or even Mining, it's just adapted to the realism of both enviornments.

Applies more the ED. Back on kickstarter days ED had such a grand vision they talked about but then it all got cut and scoped down. SC followed through that but quite increased scope, this planets as the one seen now on 3.8 is far beyond what was seen possible back then.

Let's just wait and see what happens with Elite's expansion next year. If everyone has limitless patience for SC it would seem hypocritical not to have limitless patience for other games no?

I'm not impatient for it, I just don't expect much as FD to me dropped much of its ambition just to call something released, now it's hard to even imagine the needing redoing of the game to have something like space legs make sense on it just like multi-crew had to be put in the way that it was.

I'm not saying you are impatient. I am saying that you should be willing to give them the time they want if you extend that line of thinking elsewhere.

Also, your claim that they have dropped their ambition is just that, a claim. You don't know what they are working on for the next expansion, there are rumors of what they are working on but nothing is confirmed so it's entirely possible that what they are doing is really ambitious.

Looks all auto generated. Is ANY of that city explorable or just 2d objects?Would take no effort at all to pull this off,i already have MANY great vista zones in Atlas and if they can pull it off, anyone can.Difference being that i nAtlas each zone/island has a LOT \of objects and AI running while this planet/zone looks to have nothing operating,no animations,no Ai so yeah to pull this off is amateur hour.
Get back to me when this multi million dollar game is doing something i haven't already seen before.

This doesn't make any sense, by the way... unless there is some major geothermal activity in those regions, or it's an eyeball Earth (which would mean "pole" singular), or there were some Maxwell's demon-level wind patterns going on.

... or is it just that the planet is tilted 90 degrees along its rotational axis?  Somebody needs to Space Engine this.

What does the analemma of Microtech look like?

The title of this says it all IS ABOUT TO...they have been about to release the greatest space sim ever....for almost 10 years now.

Its the great 'wait and see' experience.

No tot mention how many planets did they promise way back when? They have less than 10 I think after how long and now much money? And theyre all empty with nothing to do but whatever someone can dream up and try and call 'content'.

Seriously this is getting beyond ridiculous. I guess the positive is they are actually doing something but it surely isnt the end all be all. Sort of like caves. Remember when those were the best thing ever created in the video gaming world? Dont hear much about them now. Are they released? If so then I suspect they are just as boring and empty and devoid of anything resembling 'content' as we all said they would be. But because they were something different they were the end all be all for about 5 seconds.

Which sort of sums this whole project up. While it is being 'developed' they can make grand announcements like this every time they put ANYTHING in. Once it is actually 'released' then expectations become greater. Well for most they are greater but the spin doctors wouldnt have nearly the semantics arguments to spew if this thing ever does release.

They have spent over 200 million (and probably closer to the 225 range) on what people can see with their own eyes. Can anyone honestly say what there is that is playable is worth that kind of a price tag? And that isnt even considering the hyperbole of him claiming every dollar he raised would be worth 3 or 4 'real' dollars in terms of development. 200-225 MILLION spent of actual dollars.

They didn't quite promise all these actual planets as you have them today back then.

The original scope was a set of a few dozen landing zones, not fully explorable planets or moons, they were landing zone map levels, known as the social module.

So the current standard this stuff is being built is quite beyond what was originally set to be, the higher depth and quality of the locations developed today are the priority, instead of rushing adding locations just to meet a set number.
