No GOTY-2019 list is complete without Control. Its combat and abilities system should become new standard for any spell casting / sci-fi shooter / whatever gameplay.

    Thank you for your time!

Outer Worlds looks fun. Maybe Christmas next year ;)

Vault-Tec analysts have concluded that the odds of worldwide nuclear armaggeddon this decade are 17,143,762... to 1.

The community choices suck worse than the staff choices. It gets my vote for the most uninspired oatmeal list of the year. It's almost as good as Entertainment Weekly's Witcher review or the horrible show itself.

What in the name of Elminster are you babling about?

Now that's a real intelligent comment. Did I use words that are too hard for you?

The community choices are not out yet as far I checked. But thanks for you kind words.

It's literally the list the article is talking about...did you not read it? I mean, it can't be any more clear.

Can someone explain what "best persistent online game" means please?

From the context, I assume it means "best games that can only be played online", but as that seems like a pointless thing to vote on I hope I'm wrong. When I read it, I assumed it meant games that have a persistent online world, but neither Destiny 2 or The Division 2 have persistent online worlds, both being fully instanced with no persistence.

Yes, I misunderstood the article too. It would have been helpful if they had kindly pointed that out that instead of being a dick about it.

It's still a boring milktoast list. Lets see if the community can do better. I doubt it.
in my case, I asked for it, I got a bit snarky and got it right back. As I said, my bad.

As for the list, I mean they are working with what they have, which is several trash heaps in 2k19, lets hope we see some games in 20, this is getting bad.

At least there are games I'm looking forward to in 2020, cyberpunk, avengers, and hopefully a couple new MMOs that are actually worth admission.

Imagine putting as best MMO Final Fantasy, while WoW Classic had 20 times the amount of players playing at the same time and still currently WoW Retail and Classic are so far ahead of FF it's not even close.

This is what happens when some team at MMORPG.com gets to just award some shit.
    Bad calls.

Appeals to popularity aren't a good argument.

Or would you like to put forth an argument as to why Pokemon, FIFA, and Call of Duty are the pinnacles of gaming?

I said it before - I will say it again - any best RPG list that puts outer worlds above Elysium is a damn joke.

Any best 2019 rpg list that doesnt mention Disco Elysium can F right off.

This is my opinion, your mileage may vary
Look, I know the Disco Elysium dev at the Game Awards was very attractive, but she's not going to date you if you start disliking all other games.

So the best MMORPG of 2019 is one that launched in 2013?  And the runners up launched in 2004 and 2014, respectively?  I get that there hasn't been a lot of competition for best new MMORPG, but giving it to old games because they had some patches this year is more than a little ridiculous.

I can’t play Final Fantasy online.. why? That DINK DINK DINK noise drives me crazy! (Targeting stuff). Makes the gameplay feel cheese.

Well, they really should quit fighting the flow and put "none of the above" back in which is usually the most appropriate choice most years.

i do find myself disagreeing with DMKano more often than not, but for this I also think Disco Elysium is above all other rpgs of this year, have had a hunch about it and the narrative quality for more than a year now following it, and even more rarely, that hunch was more than vindicated when it launched. That doesn't happen often. Disco Elysium is what we need if we are gonna get great stories and characters in our RPGs of the quality of the original Planescape: Torment.

I certaintly hope that the universal dislike for DMKano's comment is more personal, that it is representative of the game itself, because otherwise it's a sign of too much focus on gameplay, raw rpg systems, relative immersion and not enough on lore, world, narrative and characters.

Also i haven't seen or known how the dev looks like until i looked at it right now due to your comment, just for clarification, ...

Best MMORPG is the only genre that can, and should, include titles not from this year. I mean, don't we all complain that new MMOs don't hold our attention? And out of the games listed FFXIV is the one that continues to grow and put out engaging new content, unlike WoW that continues to decline.
