If your looking for a hard game that takes forever to level, go back to EQ where you came from. You can keep your camped mobs, trains and other forms of grieving.
World of Warcraft isn't trash by no means. If the game was trash it wouldn't have 4.5million players playing the game. Also, WoW isn't an Inovative game it's a MMORPG done right. Tons of fun for all ages and alot of things to do. While it might get a little boring a couple months after 60 you can always reroll a new faction or class. WoW is very easying going and you don't have to grind your ass off to get somewhere in the game, Hell if you love to grind and love to spend 12months to get to end game then WoW just isn't the game. Just like the developers said while in beta, they don't want wow to be a EQ clone. WoW is here to stay like it or not.
I have been playing Wow since day 1. I also played EQ2 at day 1. Other games I played include EQ. DAoC, Planetside, Anarchy Online, and some I have forgotten the names of (they were so bad). This is the first game that has even come close to getting it right.
First of all in regards to the graphics, while the "special effects"(spell effects..etc) of the game may leave something to be desired the overall look of the game is amazing. It feels like (to me) as if im in a painting. Dont let people fool you into believing the graphics are bad...they are great overall.
casual gamer-Some people complain that this is not for the casual gamer despite Blizzards claim to the contrary. When Blizzard says you can solo from level 1 to level 60 they are not kidding. I have NEVER played another mmog where that was possible. Blizzard never claimed you would be able to get all the UBER gear as a solo player. As a matter of fact they stated you WOULD NOT have access to some of the best gear if you didnt group with others.
The community- in every game I have played of this sort there have been griefers. In every game made in the future there will be griefers. The bottom line is that while we mature players do make up a portion of the gaming community there are a large amount of punks out there who simply don't care to act civilized. If you dont want to see griefers in a game...don't play a mmog.
End game content- This has always been a problem in a MMOG. There reaches a point where you have maxed your characters and gear pretty much as good as possible. Blizzard is good about adding new instances and just recently upgraded a zone to have more solo and grouping content and loot. But if you are at this point (burnout) then I suggest taking a break until Blizzard releases a expansion (one is already planned). Some of the people complaining about the end game content then list that they have 5 alts already at 60 (max level) and with all their epic gear. I get a kick to see these people complaining about the game because to get your epic armor takes hours upon hours in molten core. A person with more than 1 60th character in full epic armor has put hundreds of hours in to this game. If it sucked so bad, why play so long?
Crafting-Admittley crafting needs some work. I have always felt that the best gear should come from crafters. It seems WoW is heading in that direction but its far from there currently. I make most of my money from AH-speculating than from items I have crafted.
PvP-Ok PvP is a blast....and it sucks. let me explain. there are different games to choose, but mainly a capture the flag/capture waypoints setup. The fights are fast paced and there are interesting things you can do (summon a boss to help fight for your side, for example). Here is the bad news. The games are set up so that if enough players dont show up then there is no fight. Also there is a cap on how many players can participate per side so you may have a long wait to get into a game. Blizzard needs to take a page from DAoC and have open PvP zones you can zerg.
Anyways, this is just my 2 cents. I think overall Blizzard did a great job. I sometimes wonder if Sony is getting its employees to start posts like this one to try to stem the loss from EQ2 and Star Wars. Numbers dont lie people...the game is huge....do youself a favor and give it a try
The reason sooooo many people play it is because pre 60, you can easily play the game without the need for 39 other people with specific class/spec breakdowns. Also, lets not forget that its Blizzard, they could publish a turd in a box and it would sell millions...like SWG and SOE. The new Silithus content is just more group grinding/raiding crap that is every other high level distraction. Blizzard did nothing new or even clever with WoW, except make an EQ1 clone with an easy button till 60. Just my 2cp.

Ya well obviously this game is not for casual gamers like you just stated. They'll never get access to the best gear if you don't do MC/BWL/ONYXIA or PVP for hours everyday.

You're right that crafting needs some work. Nobody give a damn of the items you make. Everyone wants items from Molten Core/Onyxia/BWL. Unfortunately, they are all BOP and you have to be there yourself to get the items... and another thing is that you have to be in a damn big guid to do this. In fact, you have to do them over and over again to get them with 39 other people. Imagine how the loot is distributed. 3-5 item for 40 ppl. There you use a DKP system, kind of like an open auction. The person that do these raids the most will most likely get the epic item because he has more DKP points. You gonna spend hours and hours to get these epic gear. And ya, you said they are working on crafted gear? Are you sure? They introduce a lot of craftable gear that needs ingredients from Molten Core? How ironic is that??? You still need to be in a damn big guild and do these damn 40 man raids and get DKP points to get these ingredients. Besides these gear are usually not that great but has a lot of fire resistance which is only ideal for Molten Core. So you are saying they are working towards craftable items for players.... I really cannot agree with you on that. They are working to allow people to prepare themselves for these 40 man raid dungeons. WOW is all about dungeons...PVE really..

BG PVP in WOW is like a first person shooter where you only have 3 different kinds of setting and you go in there and mindless kill people. If you have EPIC gear from MC/BWL/Onyxia you are more likely to get more kills...feel better about yourself. Yeah, only 3 different kinds of setting where in first person shooter you have like 100 different kind of maps???
World of Warcraft isnt and shouldn't be declared trash by anyone who has played it for a few hours and gives up because they don't have the mental capabilities to understand how everything works. I don't even own the game myself, but my roommate does, and I have played in on his account before. It has exactly what I would look for in a game, and continues to entertain for hours with its PvP....however, I can honestly say that I would not spend money to play it. I'm afraid I'm much too cheap to pay for a game every month, though if I did, WoW would top the list right away. Looking forward to more quality from Blizzard!
WoW was a great game for about 6 months. Theres only so much to do after you lvl several classes to 60. The PvP is horrible IMHO and thats one of the reasons I left. The other thing I hated about this game is the rude players. Nothing worse than getting ninja'd. To attack a mob thats on an ore only to have some punk run up and snag it, or a chest, etc. Then they talk smack and when you say something they scream to a GM and get you banned. (been banned a couple times for my foul infantry mouth ) With no fear of loss when you die that leaves it wide open for ganking which if you have been to STV your more than aware of how that goes. I dont even want to get into different class issues and PvP.
As I write this my wife is sitting behind me playing WoW. It is a great first mmorpg (her first). I quit after another player told me a certian area was "his" then proceeded to tag every mob I walked towards. After some rude comments my foul mouth was loosened and here comes the BAN wagon. Theres nothing you can do to a rude player in WoW. So theres alot of kiddies running around the server doing what ever they want with out any kind of check. Coming from AC1 DT it was just too much for me to take.
I do want some good to come out of this thread though, I am one of the old breed AC1 DT players. I long to find a game with open pvp such as Asherons Call offered. Nothing better than to deal with someone on the spot with a loss for thier death. If anyone can suggest a game thats close to AC1 please let me know!

I am currently looking around and deciding myself what to play for my next MMORPG and I just noted your request here at the end of your post. If you are looking for full-open PvP and the ability to smack down insolent brats thenyou may want to consider Lineage 2. Just an idea, I've not triued it yet myself - but I've ntoed a lot of people who love that aspect of it while reading through posts.
I Disagree i like this game alot and ive played alot of other mmo's you name ive played it serisouly. but EQ sucks and most of the people saything this game sucks are people who really enjoyed EQ, that's saying something. This game is great i enjoy playing it and plus it has battlegrounds (like an areana kindia like guild wars) and free roaming PvP like Ultimia online... This game is great i can't find anything not to do. If you don't feel like questing get in que for battlegrounds or help out someone else maybe make another char to see if you like it.
