I assume this is based off of box sales and not "Top Grossing Games of the Decade"

Can we really call all of the Call of Duty titles "games"?  Most of them appear to have been minor scenario packs (new maps, some new graphics, some new dialog/story, etc.) using the basic game engine.  The work of designing game systems and technical issues was basically already done.  What makes these any different from a DLC, like for Europa Universalis or Pathfinder: Kingdoms?  I'd suggest if the list started counting DLC sales, then EU IV probably should be very close to the top -- ultra rabid fan base and over $250 base price (or more) for the entire game.

Yes, they sold well and were good games.  Doesn't mean it's whole new game to me.  But anyway, the FPS mentality eludes me.

Logic, my dear, merely enables one to be wrong with great authority.

Not one of those games would I give above a 8.5. Heck I hate CoD games and RD2 was super boring for me as well.

Only game on that list I enjoyed was GTA5
You're generous. Embracing my inner Wizardy, I wouldn't give these games the time of day, let alone a score above a 6.

I was also bored to tears by RDR2.

About what I would expect. The general gaming public just has no taste :)

Have to agree, haven't played any of those games, RDR might be of some interest, clearly the mass market is totally out of touch with what good games are.

I don't think it really matters.... though... because sales can't really account for much of anything apart from a box, when the top grossing games these days are... free.  Fortnite?

    I haven't played a CoD game in .... I can't remember how long... I certainly wouldn't ever buy one.

I will quote the more inclusive list.

The only games I would question are Diablo 3, Mario Kart 8, Terraria and RDR 2; simply because I have not played them. All the others including CoD are solid games and I don't see what issue there is with them being there. CoD is not my favourite shooter but shooters should be up there.

NPD only tracks digital data from certain publishers. In 2018 these were

All games from EPIC, CD Projekt Red, Paradox Interactive, Zenimax Studios, and a lot of other small publishers are missing from that list.

Also it looks like they're tracking digital sales for official consoler marketplaces for their members well enough, but for PC even their Steam coverage is limited, let alone covering other smaller digital stores.

Well Einstein did say that on waking up he realised he knew less and less every day. In this case though investing more credence into the the numbers than they deserve may be what qualifies for your statement.

Nielsen's attempt to push out estimated number of games sold (in the US) several years ago was actually dismissed by multiple game companies including EA and Activision Blizzard as simply "wrong". (The estimates were impacting the share price which is why they came out and said they were, essentially, a wild guess.)

    Key word: credence.

I've been following this thread and wondering... Is this a "fair" assessment?

A game released in 2010 (or 2011 if that's the first year in the decade) gets the full ten years of sales figures. A game released in 2019 gets less than 1 year of sales.

It is a nice, neat timeframe, but not very fair ;)

Personally the only modern MMORPG trend that annoys me is the idea that MMOs need to be designed in a way to attract people who don't actually like MMOs. Which to me makes about as much sense as someone trying to figure out a way to get vegetarians to eat at their steakhouse.
