I can't tell what stage these people are in with this game.. From that website showing the two different biomes the game looks good. Then they released something awhile back that looked like it was barely even a game.. So.. I'm lost?

if the bought the image from adobe stock or from any commercial platform that has licensing agreement for commercial use, they can do what ever they want with.
Very likely they didn't obtain permission from the source authors hence the removal of the image(s).

It wasn't bought.  It was a free clip art image with a water mark.  Which if it's watermarked then it makes them look even worse because this team supposedly has professional artists that should be able to do something of that nature themselves (mind you removal of the water mark is not what the professional artists should do either because that's wholly illegal.)  In this case, they should accept that they were going to get laughed at for using free art, or y'know...have their artists make something.

(Mind you it's a valid concern too whether or not all of their artwork is entirely there's if the front piece of the mood piece clearly isn't.)

That thread is where Slapshot posted the pics where it's blatantly obvious they just took images from pinterest to photoshop in their concept art.

I can't even begin to describe how pathetic and lazy that is. Not to mention they are over 3 years in and millions of dollars and stealing pics off pinterest to use as concept art "mood pieces" instead of ingame video or screenshots mind you.

I mean nothing in that "mood piece" was done by them the background forest was watermarked, the tree houses were taken from pinterest, the only "work" they actually did was combining the images.

If this is what they use to help them in the creative process, so be it. I just question the judgement of showing it to their followers. If my team uses a blow-up doll to inspire the artists making the female models, I'm not going to post a picture of the doll and call it a mood piece (even if it is). Extreme example, but maybe less embarrassing.

So they try and deceive everyone then after thinking for several days they come up with an excuse this was merely a mood piece to discuss ideas.I would also assume that it would be illegal to use someone else's art work in their game so they made sure to tell us this was only used to create discussion.

I really don't care anymore to decipher what is going on within,i figured out long ago this team are a bunch of con artists and will never deliver a decent game, this is simply a money grab operation. All these newly accepted money scams like Early access and crowd funding ideas have made it easy for devs or wannabe devs to earn a living with no risk and nobody to answer to.

Keyword may be "artists".DO they even have more than 1 artist  or even 1 artist or did they from the beginning plan on stealing ideas or borrowing ideas from real artists or perhaps they hoped to con enough money to simply contract the work out.
So grab an image like this one posted and send it out to real artists in hopes to contract similar work.Hey can you create some art for us that looks similar to this sort of ordeal.

Oh yeah and it's totally not illegal to steal peoples art. Maybe they should google Warcraft Orc and put that into the game.

Photobashing is a very common practice when it comes to concept art.

Photobashing is a very common practice when it comes to concept art.

You know whats even more common? Actual artists drawing concept art. Just google video game concept art.

That way they make original art for the game and won't have people coming after them for copyright infringement if they steal something from the wrong spot.

See anything Warcraft, Halo, Mario or any other highly recognizable video game that has it's stuff trademarked.

Of course that's just what the big creative successful games do. Original concept art drawn by talented artists. Not something Soulbound Studios is aiming for I guess.

As hilariously shitty as this game is and the development team behind it, besides perhaps using copyrighted material there's nothing else out of the ordinary here. I have a friend who actually works as a concept artist in the movie industry and photo-bashing is extremely common, it allows you to throw together initial pieces in no time flat. These pieces tend to be used for quick and dirty presentation pieces before they actually move into drawing specific set pieces, scenes, etc.

Now it's another story if they were trying to sell this as being something in-game but I don't think even these guys are that stupid. It's a mood piece, or a presentation piece to inspire imagery and a sense of the zone.

Don't get me wrong, this game as far as I'm concerned is still a massive scam and I honest to god feel bad for the poor saps who have or continue to support/back this shit bird and his company but in this particular instance it's not a huge deal.

Its a mood piece: " It was created as part of an internal discussion between our principal concept artist and the designers about the nature and structures of the Kypiq biomes. "

If that's the case why release it to the public? By doing so their intention was to make it look like the graphics of the game would be that good. The idea this was released so that "(when combined with sufficient explanation) would help people understand a bit more about the process of making games" is disingenuous, people will see a picture and think that's how its going to look, they must have realised that.

Well rest easy at least we know it was not Caspian's fault. :)
