Hmm...from the excerpts, I side with Jacobs. If the tier said it was not refundable, and you purchased it anyways. That's on you.

What it looks like is these crowd-funded Game Devs that opted to make MMOs, are finding out just how hard it is to make 'a world', and are opting to put out an easier to make game WHILE STILL WORKING ON THE MMO

FYI: The MMO Genre isn't as popular as it use to be. Any company sticking solely with MMOs is fast gonna find themselves out of money and bought up (*cough* CCP *cough*).

If they can take an aspect of the MMO and break it out into its own, then I say go for it. Because I'd rather have some of my tier money (and yes I did back; $500) go to getting something out now than reading an email saying "sorry, we have to close down", and as Wonka would say "YOU GET NOTHING!".

...if you cannot understand, then you lack the ability to run a business.

Some developers yes and some developers no.

Marc Jacobs definitely knows what it takes to make an mmorpg.

No doubt, I'm just saying if they can release a 'pure pvp' game and keep the lights on while working on the MMO. I'm all for that.

Maybe handled the announcement a bit better; more clearer. But for the community to think 'backers' are going to keep a company afloat is just silly. I mean look at their store. Unless I'm missing something it's all 'one time' funding options....not like Star Citizen or Ashes which has new shop items added nearly every month.

Food for thought [for others]: World of Warcraft was built because of the funding games like Warcraft, Diablo, and Starcraft provided. Which were funded by games like The Lost Vikings. You think investor said: HEY! My money went towards your RTS, HOW DARE YOU DO A MMO, I DEMAND A REFUND!

No they trusted the company to deliver. - Spoilers: They did.

    Pretty much agree.

I just know that Jacobs was offering refunds on the buy in and I personally wouldn't begrudge anyone who is entitled to take him up on that offer.

Waiting 7 years before asking for a refund when the pitch was 2 is being quite patient imho.

If Marc Jacobs is honoring his end, there is nothing to begrudge him over either.

As I've said earlier in one of these threads, I think its a case of survival.

I see a notion that a certain developer delivered,i disagree, there has been a LOT of luck in this industry,MANY games that re at least imo VERY weak to low end games making a lot of money. The industry is pretty much unpredictable making investments a crap shoot.

I can quote a certain streamer who was once asked why he plays Hearthstone, his response, because i know it will bring the most viewers and NOT because the game is the best or that Blizzard delivered on their game.

Gaming has become a very lucrative business for MANY outlets, including Esports, streamers,YouTubers,Facebook etc etc.If there is some kind of angle for money to be made,THAT is what is driving these games right now.You don't have to be a rocket scientist either, just look at how Epic simply switched over to the BR mode with Fortnite because it was simply just the trendy market at the time. You can even look at how popular Pokemon Go became to realize why we now see a super cheap looking low end game like temTem hit the market,it is a trend and one that makes money even without a quality product.

People are VERY simple minded in their thoughts, they see numbers/population and money made and auto think,OH OH that game MUST be the best game on the market.IMO CU will NEVER be much of a game, idc if all of a sudden he got 500 million in crowd funded money, idc if IGN and mmorpg.com both said the game was a 9.7/10.I can see with my own eyes and understand the industry well enough to see a dud or a very low end game when i see it.
