Well, it was great while it lasted. Pantheon retakes the lead. But second place isn't shabby.

When in first appears it gets spashed in all of your ads, but once it drops off it's an award of no consequence.

We actually *have* run a few ads (Facebook/Instagram, Twitter, YouTube), but yeah, there's been nothing to brag about to-date. We're an independent MMORPG from a team with zero celebrity behind it, in closed alpha. What's to brag about? Our alpha graphics? Our alpha animations? Our unoptimized lighting/shaders/etc.?
The only thing I could think worth bragging about would be if we won a title at a notable convention, like Best Indie Game at Pax East or something. That's worth bragging about for a good 6 months or so before you wear out any traction that comes with it.
The times we have run ads, it's around our Release builds (which were quarterly until we shut down the pre-order store). And those were very simple "here's a sizzle reel of the latest alpha footage with the dates of the next test if you want to buy in and come join us". And they have a pretty steady 4:1 ROI in terms of dollars spent versus gross revenue, so fairly successful.
You'll certainly see some ads coming up in late February and throughout March, on the aformentioned platforms. But none of them will mention a single other entity other than our own studio and game.
I would never pay for ads here, or on any other gaming site. The ROI is absolute shit compared to influencer marketing campaigns or SMM.
