I was just wondering if the members here thought that the MECHWARRIOR/BATTLETECH universe being made into a MMO would do good.
EDIT:
Sorry I mucked up the poll... Treat the "What the @#$@ is MW" as a NO....

RISING DRAGOON ~AION US ONLINE LEGION for Elyos
well several years ago there were plans for a mmorpg in the mechwarrior time, it was a joint effort between microsoft, FASA studios and Electronic Arts, i still got some screenshots of it somewhere in a pc-magazine, they were absolutely beautiful.
you could gain ranks and the higher your rank, the more you would decide the outcome of battles, when you where a colonel for example, you could give orders to attack to lower ranking officers and they gave orders so on. eventually when you were a very high rank, you could plan entire planetary attacks
but then a couple of magazines later i read that because of disagreement between EA and Microsoft the development of the game was cancelled
they were truly fabulous ingame screenshots

The closest thing to a mech MMO coming out would probably be Auto Assault.

I think it is a bad idea to do MechWarrior MMORPG,it can be only rubbish(I don't hate or love the universe, byt I'm sure it is stupid idea-there are many Sci-Fi worlds that are much better than this one)

MW should stay the way it is an mmo MW would be fun but its great the way it is

"this site needs a graveyard forum for us to mourn."
actually it was released.into beta.... almost anyone could of indeed joined this beta but it was very secretive and hidden. It was a really fun game at the time it was out.. I enjoyed it immensely and wish it got past beta phase to gold status. I Dont remember alot of it cause its literally been a good few years since it was canned besides the fact that it was great fun and was the only mech warrior based MMO..(well it was MMO a little bit like gunz in general size of players fighting at the same time.
I think it's the objective of your past self to make you cringe.
Wrong
I was in the MPBT3025 Beta (that's the game that someone else was talking about that was being developed by EA). It was fantastic. Here's a link to an old article about it back during beta:

I was really bummed when EA & Micro$oft got into it and the game got cancelled. I haven't played an EA or Micro$oft game since.
There are a couple groups of players who have been in the MPBT community for a long time that are trying to indie develop a MechWarrior/BattleTech MMORPG but it's been something like 5 years in development.
Here's a link to the site they are hosted out of:

OK, it may be good as online FPS like Planetside, but with smaller worlds and other differences, but I'm still sure that there are poor abilitys for RP and craft and other MMORPGs features except combat.

Sorry, wrong again. Entire nations were set up. House units and rank structures. You could play as a solo mechwarrior if you so desired but the real action came when you joined a unit be it house or merc and joined in the overall operations planning. I started out as just your standard grunt but got noticed and managed to join Wolf's Dragoons. Eventually I became a Major and commanded a Mech Company of my own. We took part in the capture of several worlds.
Now, granted, it WAS an FPS but there was more roleplaying in that game than in any other MMORPG's I've ever played. Did it center around combat? Of course, BattleTech is a combat game. No question. But to say there wasn't roleplaying is just plain silly. Entire nations were represented *by the players* and run *by the players*. House Diplomats and dignitaries all the way down to lance commanders were determined and run *by the players*.
I'd suggest you read up on the history behind the MPBT community and the successes we have had in 3 Online MechWarrior games going back as far as 1992 before you claim that there isn't roleplaying in Multiplayer Battletech games.
Hell even some MechWarrior IV player run organizations have more roleplaying than most MMORPG's.
Crafting I'll give ya. The game didn't have crafting in it. Then again many MMORPG's dont.

Elnator is correct about the MW universe it is a very complete universe. While the original MW games were FPS and were really enjoyable, if you add the rest of what was developed for the original BATTLETECH game of FASA'S you could have a game that could be a mix of SWG and PS... You could have all the military units of PS and more and the world hopping spacecraft space battles of EVE ONLINE.
Imagine a game where you could start as infantry, drive a armored car, go to a tank, then a mecha, and eventually going all the way to commanding a warship in space all in one game.
While there are better sci-fi universe's out there, most have been done and done badly in the past. This is something that has been worked on, has a fan base and is at least partially developed. It also would have the advantage of being something NEW! Imagine someone coming out with a game that has a original story (The last sci-fi game that did that was EVE ONLINE).
If someone was smart they would see the people talking about the fact they are tired of all the fantasy MMO'S that have been coming out recently. A new sci-fi game done reasonably well right now would rake in a lot of players (initally at least), a well done game would rake in the money for at least a year as long as it was supported better than SOE.
Witty saying to amuse you goes here.
I've said it before, I'll say it again. If someone can pry permission from Micro$oft to develop an MMORPG under the BattleTech franchise name they will RAKE in the money. BattleTech has one of the biggest fan bases of any tabletop RPG and it's been made into an online game successfully already:
Multiplayer Battletech on GeNie
And
Multiplayer Battletech: Solaris (on the internet)
Then the same team that wrote those was picked up by EA to write MPBT 3025... it was close to release when EA and Micro$oft got into a pissing match and the game got cancelled over licensing rights.
The biggest problem with making a BattleTech MMORPG is getting the rights to use the name from Micro$oft because FASA sold them exlusive rights to produce BattleTech computer titles.

I love Battletech but I don't really think it would be good to do as an RPG. You should keep the focus on sim action and have a "conquer the universe" PvP like Shattered Galaxy going on. Players would join lances or armies and then drop into hotzones. In other words, MPBT 3025 with prettier graphics and a much larger player count.
I can't shake this erie feeling that it would play alot like Starshatter and Darkspace though.
There's universal century, the gundam one. Unfortunately, it's japanese. What this means, is you know absolutely nothing about it They used to have english sections on their site (universalcentury.net) but those have seemingly dissappeared. While for some odd reasons bits and pieces of the writing on their site (like the banner) are in english, the english translations appear to be gone. Or they did the last time i checked, which was when i stopped following it cuz i figured i'd never find out what was going on with it anyway
And god i'd love any mech mmo. But i hate when games focus in on one thing. The mech in the game should just be the ultimate war machine. It should definately be a mmofps, but it should ALSO have all of the good aspects of the MMO in general (crafting, property ownership, battle for territory, etc). I'd love something like that. But it won't happen cuz MMO makers are obsessed with crappy little levelling treadmills (that'd be pretty much every mmo for you, cept maybe planetside which sucked anyway) with shitty combat systems, and they won't make anything else.
Remember kids, when you see the lava coming, duck and cover!!!
MPBT3025 was simulator combat. But it was still an RPG (Role Playing Game).
Role Playing does not preclude FPS combat.
