Do you need more than 32 skills ? That is how many you can map in FFXIV on to a controller.

unless they recently changed it to 32, you can actually map over 80 skills and actions. Using the modifiers you can swap like 8 different hotbars.

Why in the world would you attempt to move a game that is designed to run on a PC and move it to a primitive console?  The only reason ESO managed to do it was their UI was basically designed to handle it with limited keyboard inputs allowing a controller to be used.  And by the way that is the major issue with ESO, extremely limited skill use!

Do your commentators every play these games and actually think before they write????

Do you even read your own posts? AAA MMORPGs have been on consoles since 2002 with Final Fantasy XI on Playstation 2. I don't believe there is an older one. The length some people go to show their hate for consoles is mind boggling... seriously.
EDIT: PSO1 was on Dreamcast earlier.

    Agreed.

What's the difference anyway? And how is it affecting anyone personally?

If companies want to release games on consoles so people can play them and the company can make money in the process, who cares?

Oh yeah, console haters care....for some reason....I guess.

you can enable an action camera on WoW with a command, and there is an addon (called ConsolePort) that turns the UI into a console friendly UI similar to FFXIV's. Combining those two the whole game can be played with a controller. I tried it myself and it works well, including targeting. Just saying it's possible. As for an actual port, it will never happen.

I actually prefer MMOs developed for consoles, but I rather play them on a PC.

The reason I prefer console-developed MMOs is all in skill bloat. Most MMOs that work on consoles do a very conscious job of limiting the number of available skills, and instead of just throwing 50+ skills at you (most of which are extremely situational and rarely used), they instead tend to lean on ability combos and positioning -- or at least the ones I like do.

But the reason I prefer to play them on a PC is that I hate giving up my keyboard. I don't really mind using the controller at all, but I really miss being able to type when I want to, and I loathe voice chat. Yeah, you can use a keyboard to chat on a console, and I have, but sitting on the couch I just can't make it work comfortably; sitting at a PC on a desk though is just more natural.

FFXIV I love to death, but I can't play that at all on a console - they kept the skill bloat, and require chording on a controller, and I just can't get the hang of it.

I always though GW2 would have played very well on a console though, and never saw it come over.
    This is a good point.

I mean why have 50 skills when you end up only using like 6 of them 99% of the time, and the other 44, for specific situations.

I mean either have all the 50 skills matter, and you need button mash like a squirrel jacked up on meth and red bull, or just chill out with the pointless skill bloat, and streamline it.
Go try ESO with it's horrible UI to see what a MMO looks like on a console.  None of those MMO listed in this thread use just a few keys.  You would get zero raiding done that way.

I played ESO, it was not the UI that bothered me.. it was the fact the whole game felt "Meh".

Now.. BDO's UI drove me nuts!

Oh no, something something about consoles, lets grab our torches and pitchforks! Then lets yell something random about shallow and simplified followed up by inferior hardware or something like KB+M controls.

There, every discussion about anything console related around here.

Plenty of real MMORPGs on consoles that play perfectly fine, not dumbed down at all. The whole idea that more buttons/skills equals more depth is laughable, go play Into the Breach, or even better, chess. Besides, KB/M is perfectly doable on consoles, it has been for many years. Something people would know if they actually owned one.

This whole argument is so silly. Are you telling me you all have never played FFXI? The console works absolutely fine. The prejudice here is beyond stupid.

Final Fantasy 11 is considered to be in the same difficulty class as Everquest. It is very old school. I see that the limited exposure to games like FFXI and FFXIV has made some of you blind and what's worst is that you persist in your ignorance trying to defend it by saying consoles dumb down games. It does not.

I am really so disappointed by some of you that I thought would know better.

I have nothing against controllers, joysticks, or whatever input device someone wants to use. There are many and they all are great in their own way.

What I don't get is "Console" here. I mean.. do people that have the money to spend $400 on an X-Box not able to buy a decent gaming computer?

Ummm.. Wait.. yah.. $400 for a console vs $1,500 for a gaming computer..I got it now.

With that said.. I still don't see the attraction of Consoles over a PC.

becasue there is none, outside doing a complete brain dead couch potato session.

I have consoles but only for when i'm forced initially to play there, GTAO was ok and fun, but when it came to PC OMFG was it so much better, i wondered how i tolerated such a f'ing joke.

I mean it's not just better it's immeasurably better on the PC.

RD2 meh, was OK on console but after a few hours i'd had enough frustration to last a lifetime. I still have yet to grab it for the PC where i'll play it proper and finish it, it's just classic and SWG legends has me overloaded with stuff to do atm.

This is just insanity. Going on console ensures it will be rpg-lite dumbed down trash for children and retards. The UI will be horrible console trash, and the rpg system will be almost non-existent to appease the dumb console community and UI restrictions for barbaric controller using savages.

This is an atrocious take. It would only benefit dumb console savages and dramatically hurt civilized PC users. Why do the elitists want to destroy what little is left to civilized people with working brains?

I have both consoles and PC. Been playing on consoles for about 30 years and on PC for about 25 years. For me personally, I am the type of person that thinks in this way: If I have US$3000 for entertainment I will build a $1000 PC and buy one or two $300-$400 consoles, and still have $1200+ dollars left just for games.

I've always preferred the idea of having a cheaper machine so i can buy more games, rather than having an expensive machine and have to buy less games.

Different people think differently, that's just who I am.

Also, on PC I cannot play PS/Nintendo exclusives, and on console I cannot play PC exclusives. It's like saying i'm going to sell my 3DS because the Switch is out... makes no sense because the Switch doesn't play 3DS games. One doesn't really replace the other without you giving up on several games.

The fact that a PC can't play a console game boggles my mind.. I am sure there are emulators that allow it to happen.

On the Genesis I played a dumbed down console version of Buck Rogers and many games that were specifically dumbed down to cater to the monkey savages on console.  The original DOS was designed for the PC.  The DC or whatever the "improved" version was for DOS improved nothing but console features for filthy barbarian savages.  DOS 2 always had console filthy savages in mind.

If you like consoles - good for you.  I'm proud.  Damn proud.  Thinking consoles have no detrimental effect on design, complexity of systems, or UI is just plain factually wrong.  PC master race are masters because we like what is good, not what hurts us and the hobby we love.  If you disagree it hurts our hobby it is because you dislike what I like and don't care if games are made for the filthy monkey savage barbarians on console and not for me - which is your right.  Your taste is your taste.  You have the absolute right to have complete shit taste in games.  I have the right to have impeccable taste and call console savages filthy monkey barbarians with shit taste.

Do you need more than 32 skills ? That is how many you can map in FFXIV on to a controller.

Really?  As your party dies and you are still trying to get to the one spell you need?  That is exactly why a controller is junk compared to a PC interface.

trying to get to the spell you need? is that spell hiding on a second screen or something? the buttons are right there. If you are a healer you obviously map healing spells to the main hotbar. Or are you telling me that using a keyboard for the first time you magically know every key location on it? People playing with controllers get used to it just as easy as people using keyboards get used to it.

I use both and I have never had any issues with either choice. Why some people blame the unknown is beyond me. It's OK if you prefer one, but you don't have to make it sound as if the other one is terrible or impossible. Set your mind to one peripheral and you will play every game better on it. SImple as that.
You must play MMOs with few controls and no pvp because the mouse/keyboard owns anyone using a controller hands down.  If you doubt that just look at games that allowed crossplay and then disallowed for that very reason.

First, in a previous post you use descriptive words such as children and retards to demean people and now master race, and  filthy monkey savage barbarians... Your wording alone makes me question your maturity level and age, and in turn toss out your opinion. I haven't resorted to name calling like that since... I dunno high school or shortly thereafter? Yes its still your opinion and you are welcome to it, but I'm giving it very little weight.

I am not saying console is better than PC, nor will I say PC is better than console. However, both have their merits and I will say there are plenty of great console titles that I would like to see on PC and vice versa.  But if those titles never make their way over, I am content with them on the platform they are currently on.

While consoles and whatever are great.

I would love to see some MMO's move to VR. They are already built on 3d platforms and worlds, so going VR seems to be the next logical step.

    Which would be epic.
