Well to the last poster... Why does anyone keep looking at the brand "AMAZON"?
Just because you stick a wealthy brand to something doesn't make it an auto good product.
Games are designed by people with several skill sets to make that game. Then even if you had the brightest minds on the planet, like god himself said yep these are the 200 best employees you can hire,it is still no guarantee. You need a lead person to make sure it all comes together the way the initial designer intended it.
Point being that just because it is Amazon, they have loads of money,it is not like they have some magical door they open to get the best people to make their games.Instead they will have cast offs, people that worked for other developers and then try and name one good game those studios produced?
From the very first day this game is an idea to move forward, the guy creating the design has to know wtf he is doing for all aspects of the game design, combat, characters, classes, races, sounds, maps, assets, implementation, menus, databases, npc's,creatures,AI,UI,costs, time lines, communication between teams etc etc.
AWS happens to be the largest Cloud Computing provider in the entire world, that's why.
As for your interpretation of bait and switch. The game is still in ALPHA which means drastic things can and will change. It doesn't happen very often, but I'll be damned if open world PvP MMOs are WORST at garnering popularity. They by far have a shorter shelf life than any PvE oriented game. They made the right decision to scrap that crap vision for a more balanced PvE approach.
What features of New World do you think will make it stand out or excel as a pve oriented game? I don't like free-for-all owpvp games that much either, but I'm having trouble seeing what would make this game appeal to a pver now that they have simply pulled out the pvp.
