That's what I read on another site too. I thought it was odd, but I guess this makes sense, because they're up against some stiff competition with the other games coming out.
I couldn't find anything on their Web site to confirm that it will have no monthly fee. But it also doesn't mention anything about how much it would cost, so maybe it's true that it will follow the GW lead of no monthly fees.
I'm looking forward to this free game. But there's probably an initial cost like Guild Wars, so it's not actually free. But a good thing nevertheless to bypass the monthly fee. A monthly fee for this game would be a barrier for people like me who already have accounts for other games, so I would welcome this.
Originally posted by Damague but you dont realy have to pay for the upgrades like in guild wars right?
Most of content will be with free patches...they might need to make expansions for really big stuff like land expansions and such...and to note, Irths world is about eight times as large as guild wars's at the moment
Originally posted by Researcher Well true or false, it would be a wise marketing decision to counter the bad press it has received.
They are recieving bad press due to peopple spreading false information. Such as the release date that is noted on this website. It is completely false. Thus everyone says release date only days away and its still buggy. Well of course its buggy, its a friggin beta, and it is not going to be release any day now. What people need to start doing is one, varify info before posting the shit, and two, verify info before believing it.
THERE WILL BE A FEE, THIS GAME IS NOT FREE, AND THIS GAME IS NOT GOING OT BE RELEASED FOR SOME TIME YET. LET US NOW SQUASH THOSE STUPID RUMORS AND START TALKING FACTS.

Thats not what that article says. It says Guild Wars has not become profittable yet. In order for that to happen developments costs have to be completley earned back first. They are not losing money because of guild wars, nowhere in that article does it state that.

Please, when advertising something as fact, atleast give a link to an official source? Fansites are not official sources as they often get it wrong. Please refer a link to somewhere on the Irth website where it says "free".

Much like the fanboys making statements on these forums "they often get it wrong." It does raise a good question ...what do the devs plan to charge? I suppose they are going to wait to declare the price (whether it is like the professional MMOs or free like other games from dev wannabes) on the day it launches.
that's not saying it's free...that's saying the monthly fee hasn't been set yet. Irth Online will be considerably well priced, but not free.
Actually it does. It shows:
Initial Purchase Price: $0.00
Monthly Price: $0.00
It would make more sense to label it as "Unknown" or "TBA" (to be determined) or even "N/A" for not available if what you say is true. I think many would look at it and think free. Until the devs declare the price this seems open for debate.
Actually its not debatable. If people took the time to go to the irth website, and search there forums you'd know there will be a price. Heres all the proof you need, and this is mentioned by one of there devs. http://www.irthonline.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=4030&hl=price

Well, I wont attempt to justify simple fansites ideas but either that fansite has it wrong or just marked unclearly...you choose
It's been said in messageboards by devs that the game will NOT be free to play more than once so I'll take my stand on believing developers rather than anonymous person behind a mmorpg portal.

Irth Online has no monthly fees...? When was this announced?
Prove it with facts, not speculation. I have not heard once that Irth is not going to charge. Post dev links please.
This is actually false information.
Someone asked if they have to pay for the beta and when told no got in false conclusions.

Anybody know when the release date is?

No.

Rather other ways around...
with Guild wars, while no monthly charge, major content is added through expansions that does cost...so Guild Wars really isn't free either.
10$/month or 50$ expansion every 6 months?
Even they have to release commercial expansions to keep the game funded.
