To be honest, this game should have open PvP and a loot system so that you can loot the inventory of your fallen prey. Also you should be able to talk to enemy factions so that you can berate their fallen corpses once youve dispatched them of their mortality and worldly goods in that order.
Unless the devs follow my friendly advice this game will be yet another npc theme park wich brings absolutely nothing new to the table. Honestly, why would you pay to play a game where all you do is fight the computer? You can do that in single player games too you know. Please be constructive.

May as well leave now as this isn't a PvP dreamland.
I personally dislike PvP... But, I know some people want to brag about being better in some game(I dunno why...). I can't see it being much for for someone to be walking along, then get killed by someone who's however many levels higher, and then have all their stuff stolen, only to be spoken down too. That just isn't fun. I suppose PvP wouldn't ruin a game if you had to agree to it or be in special areas, but it only serves the people who wish to assert dominance(Which is, again, something I don't understand.). I know this may sound like a flame, but it's not. I seriously don't understand why someone would want to contest their characters. Now, I'm simply stating that I'm sure many people opinions differ from yours. It is possible that I misunderstood your statement, but I can't really seem how.
Now, I happen to like fighting the computer. Also, it makes more sense to fight the computer. I wouldn't call myself a hardcore gamer, though I do play for extended periods of time. It's just that I never get really into a game enough to take pride in my in game accomplishments. The only reason I ever feel I need to challenge someone is when they wrong me in real life. I, personally, think that constantly needing to prove one's self to others is unhealthy. Also, being competative is little more than a lack of self confidence. I do appoligize if this sounds arrogant. Hmmm... It would seem that I'll get as many flames by people in support of PvP as I do from people who are not, as, these types of comments generally annoy me as well. So, anyway, I'd just like to say that I'm sorry for offending anyone.
I play RPGs for the story, not the fight. Feeling like your part of an epic tale is far more important than any sort of bragging rights. IMO, this can be easily done in a PvE game.
ok looting other peoples items is just gay. they work hard and long for tho's items and how are they going too make more money or even fight without weapons. if u take there items and money it will just be as a bad as lineage 2. not saying lineage 2 graphics are bad game iss cosol but that aint the point. let's say u got the best sword in game then got killed and some one stole it from u wouldnt u get pissed and quit game and complain.
most people think im dumb for puting lineage 2 down but everyone that quit knows the 2 reasons they quit is 1. player killing 2.bots tell me if im wrong
thats y i dont like pvp well i do but not when u can loot peoples items how maney people think thats a bad idea. i say it's bad
i know there's oalready going too be pvp so just vote lol.
Open PVP, AND you can loot other players' items? Forget an NPC Theme Park, that would turn Hero's Journey into nothing but a constant kill-fest. It would never end. The only players who would derive any enjoyment whatsoever are the ones who get into the game the hour of its release and powerlevel nonstop, so they can dominate everyone who follows. It's disgusting, and the developers would never let Hero's Journey turn out that way.
PVP is a an interesting side of a game, but open PVP is never enjoyable, except for people who enjoy being openly obnoxious. Conditional PVP, definately a good option.
Pirrg, it really sounds like you played EQ too much, then got pissed off at how boring it was and decided to go pwn n00bs in UO. Your idea of PvP is not only lacking, but so is your lack of faith that a company can make PvE a not-at-all dull experience. I mean, honestly, have you not checked out the E3 video? Here's some stuff enemies do that they don't do in other games.
-They build stuff. Sometimes, you have to get to whatever they are building in time and smash it before it's completed.
-They siege stuff. Like your town. This is known as an "invasion," which has been used in all of Simutronics' MUDs. You don't raid the mobs; the mobs raid YOU.
-GMs can possess said mobs, giving you a PvGM experience. They can also create NPCs which they will then possess, creating the same experience, but it's more of a boss fight when this happens.
-They don't just sit there and take it. If you put up an AE spell that they could move away from, then they *will* move away from it.
-Sometimes, you'll get a Nemesis on your ass. These critters keep showing up when you quest, and you keep fighting it but you just can't kill it. It'll get more powerful as you go as well, up until you finally kill it in the final battle...in which it's nasty powerful and ready to kick your ass once and for all as well.
Also, in HJ, you can do other stuff to the critters that you can't in other games.
-Want to fire at that mountain of rocks on top of the cliff to crush your enemy? Feel free!
-Want to push an enemy off a conviently-placed cliff? Go for it!
-Want to execute a Chrono Trigger-style combo attack? Ask your buddies for help and get in position, then do the attack for some nasty damage!
This ain't no ordinary PvE MMORPG.
I will simply never understand why some people will demand a gameplay experience that allows one to ruin the gameplay experience of another. What kills me is that you also ask for the ablility to mock the hell out of the person you just ganked.
And before you claim that the game will have nothing new to offer, please read up on the game first. Wait--nevermind; no matter what you read, you're going to still say the game will be lacking if you don't see a big splash declaring 'open pvp' somewhere in the features list.
I know you asked for people to be constructive, but I just couldn't. What I don't understand is this: Why don't all you open/full PvP guys play Lineage 2 or Shadowbane? What is wrong with those 2 games in your opinion?
The games name is Hero's Journey. Yet, whom will you be a hero to? The NPCs? A hero is defined as one whom is endowed with great courage and strength and celebrated for his bold exploits by the people.
Alas, this game will have no hero's because this game doesnt have any "people". And even if you slay the fierce fire giants of mount death, it wont make any impact on the game world nor will it matter to anyone as it had been done 10 minutes before you did it. And it will be done 10 minutes after.
On the other hand, if you were to raise a party of couragous adventurers and boldly manage to find and kill the most feared player killer in Elanthia, you would be elevated to a "hero" status by other players. Then and only then will this game be hero's journey. Naturally this would only work with a risk versus reward system such as eve or lineage, otherwise you'll just have another MMODeathmatch a'la world of warcraft and guild wars.

You are being narrowminded.
Not every game needs to be Ultima Online. The truth is, I'm glad they didn't try FFA PvP. That's probably the most difficult aspect of an MMo to implement without ruining the game. It requires many other features, just to support it. Too much time and energy is devoted to tweaking a system that has been flawed in every game that has had it.
Simutronics has chosen a different route for their game. I feel comfortable with the material they have presented on their game so far, despite my preference for PvP games.
-----------------------------
Listen Asmodeeus, seven years ago, Ultima Online didn't even have those pathetic "quests" that you refer to or those "professions" of ninja, samurai, necromancer, and paladin. Nor did it have any of the neon crap, or bug mounts. It didn't even have any "combat moves." You turned on attack and jousted with simplistic swings. It was a better game then. if you can't guess why then just uninstall the thing and move along. - Crabby
As a pre-uor Ultima Online player myself, im surprised that you would say something like "not every game needs to be ultima online" when the direct opposite is true. EVERY game should be ultima online, alas not a single game is. Instead, we have npc harvest clones such as eq2/wow/guildwars/tabularasa/d&d online and just about every other MMO on the market or in development today.

Um, yes it will. Have you even read up on the Journey System? Everything you do impacts your character's storyline, the storyline of everyone else in the world, and the events that take place within the world.
EDIT: Fixed a typo that I noticed when Darquenblade quoted my post.

Exactly. This shows exactly how much he has actually read about the game.
There is NO heroism in killing people who play the game to have fun, and not worry about being ganked by some immature moron with nothing better to do than make other peoples lives more miserable. Honestly, how can you make these claims that it isnt heroic to just fight NPCs, when you are obivously just another PKer yourself who ganks anyone who isnt stronger than himself? The ability to berate a fallen player? What are you ten years old?
I enjoy PVP, but your 'view' of PVP is just a gank/leetest fest, and one that I dont want to be a part of.

Yes, but judging from your FIRST post, it sounds like a load of trash.

If you had read it, you would have seen that i wasnt condoning mindless player killing. Infact, i clearly stated that KILLING the player killer would make you the hero. So why dont save yourself any future embarrassment and READ a post instead of a skimming through it next time.

Ahh, but he DID read it. What he is saying is due to the content of your first post (where you revealed what kind of a player you really are), it made the content of your subsequent post seem like a load of utter bullcrap. How can you say that you want PvP to be 'heroic', when you stated in your first post that you wanted the ability to fully loot your fallen, then mock him in his defeat.
We all know you're just a ganker, and you can't cover it up now with weak, made up reasons.
Especially due to the fact that Pirrg posted like an ignorant retard on the hype meter on HJ and talking exactly like the stereotypical PvP ganker.
I can clearly see that youre one of those players that wants the game mechanics to cater to their every needs. I didnt mean that its heroic to loot someone, the fact that you can loot someone is beyond argument. Full loot is essential in a working risk vs reward system. Unless there is some risk involved, PvP will be a mindless and pointless activity much resembling pvp in wow and guild wars.
When there is no risk, how on earth would the playerkiller or the hero in question distinct themselves from the crowd? One part of being couragous is taking it upon yourself to vanquish someone at great risks. Unless there is SEVERE risk involved for PvP everyone will be at eachothers throats 24/7 creating a deathmatch simulator.
Obviously, a player killer would be penalized for murdering innocent people, for instance he could be banished from all the major towns or have some sort of severe death penalty(much like the one in ultima online). Also, mocking your fallen opponent is a choice you make. If you are roleplaying a hero then i would advise against it.
Lastly i would like to add that i do not believe in forced pvp, therfor these activitys could be limited to a PvP server perhaps? Or maybe a different facet of the same server.

Yeah, but the problem with that is the following:
1. Players leave the game because they get sooo super pissed at losing all their stuff.
2. Gankers like you.
Full pvp and risk vs. reward is an amazing thrill that should not be discounted. I was thinking about maybe if they had in game GMs that acted like referees or if they were advanced enough to code in a way to keep things fair.
If they simply made it so that advanced players couldn't gank sucky ones it would rock. I think we can all agree that ganking is lame. Full and open PvP is a conundrum I hope they can solve. I look forward to Irth Online in hopes that I might relive the horror and glory that was original UO. It was awesome! No forced grouping or anything of that nature, but you had better find some allies or you're gonna get smoked.
It never ceases to amaze me how UO was so full of stories without a single npc quest, and how it was full of alliances and friendships without a single need for forced grouping other than to keep yourself safe. Ok now I'm banned from mentioning UO pre-tramell for a week.
All that said I'm gonna try Hero's Journey no matter what.
Indeed, altough UO was completely bereft of any content, it was one of the most fun mmorpgs i have ever played.
To the people calling me a ganker and griefer, i have never engaged in unconsensual pvp in any game, period. Ganking is short for gang killing wich is an acceptable style of play and altough i cant say i havent ganked people in my time, i dont take much pride in it. Still, every gank was between consensual PvPers.
Now if they introduce a PvP server and have a predefined ruleset, no one that joins it can complain later on about being killed or ganked. Its like smoking cigarettes and blaming Marlboro for your lung cancer. Joining a PvP server is a conscious choice one makes, and one must live with the consequences of that choice. If full pvp wasnt popular, uo wouldnt be going strong for almost 8 years and Lineage 2 wouldnt hold the biggest ammount of active subscribers on the market.

Let me take the opporunity to quote your words:
"As a pre-uor Ultima Online player myself, im surprised that you would say something like "not every game needs to be ultima online" when the direct opposite is true. EVERY game should be ultima online, alas not a single game is."
Sounds like someone is being a hypocrite. By claiming that 'every game should be like Ultima Online', aren't you essentially asking that EVERY GAME should cater to your needs?
I will too. This game looks too good/unique to miss
