There seem to be much more productive methods of helping the fight against racism than taking happiness away from your player base, even if it is only for a couple of hours. Just seems like an odd way of dealing with things.  How about running a two hour in-game charity drive or something?  Or an official, in-game memorial gathering?

Can someone explain to me the point they're trying to make?

Yes , I can : It's like.. sit back, relax and meditate/reflect about this kind of things , hence, making people aware of this global issue.

It would seem that they've done their charitable act for the year: https://venturebeat.com/2020/03/31/rockstar-games-will-donate-5-of-gta-online-and-red-dead-online-revenue-to-fight-coronavirus/

I blame games like GTA for making people think they can break the law and not put their lives in danger. They should shut their thug games down for good.

I guess that makes sense. Give people some down time to think about things.

A game that glorifies crime and violence has no place in this at all. Talk about misplaced.

People who care don't need you to shut their game down, they already are aware. People who don't care will continue not to care. This is silly. Empty gesture.

Don't most games glorify violence though? Crime I can understand your point, especially since you can play an authority figure going around beating up people in this game......but most games would have 'no place' if violence was concerned.

Why stop there, shut the internet off, all cell phones towers, commutation satellites, hydro, not sure why (i mean i know why) companies feel the need to to do silly things like pretend they care? I mean what happened to lgbtq or whatever the special snowflakes dreamed up for more attention because all gay, lez, bi were accepted and nobody really cared anymore, yeah you're accepted world wide, but f no we need special snowflake attention too, they dream this chit up and companies use it as brand selling ffs omg. No way i'm making light of the current situation but wtf right, the most important thing in the world is lgbtq, f the homeless, f starving people, f people being murdered by completely out of control authorites and the list of "REAL" world problems goes on and on and never ends but lgbtq is... well there is nothing more important than lgbtq i thought?

So now we have this, really? shutting down online server, lmao man lmao! I respect, repect, but abnormal pretenning like you care... that just looks really bad and is more of a slap in the f'ing face to society and the current situation.

depends, telling people the world is a violent dangerous place, with it is, is not much diferent from a game who you have to beat someone by out buying his place and dominating the market to make your opponents go bankrupt

problem here is, a empty gesture from a company, who will hardly change anything, plus we know players don't play only one game, and tend to not log on one to play others.

so again a easy to see PR move to say we care and try to look, but we know they don't

That's probably the most concrete thing.

Personally, I find this whole thing to be a reversal since its like "okay you shut down the servers for a few, then its okay to blow people up again in police cars, right?" But alot of people probably don't think like me so it'll probably work out for them. If they wanted to appeal to someone like me, they probably should've did what MightyUnclean suggested and just had a portion of funds go to charity instead.

I can't wait for this shit to go to court. All the facts come out, and people are called racist for recognizing what really happened. Floyd's family has received well over 8mill, 4 cops are being charged with 2nd degree murder and aiding and abetting, dozens of people have died, and it was all because someone was resisting arrest after being caught using counterfeit currency 5 mins before and dies because of health complications and excessive force. The video of him complaining about not being able to breathe is brutal and went on for too long but how many more people need to die before justice even has time to work this all out?

The GTA series has always been one of the leaders in glorifying modern day, urban gangster violence. IDK about you but I see a big difference between what they do and killing orcs and trolls or aliens, mutants and zombies in other games.

Rockstar donated to "honor the legacy of George Floyd"

Question: does that include the armed robbery/home invasion?

Don’t start with games glorifying violence. The relationship between games and real life violence has been debunked over and over.
