Shadowbane Players..I ask for your input

Hey guys, I just downloaded and installed the 15 day trial a few minutes ago, and although I don't have much time right now and need to retire for the night, I tinkered around with character creation a bit.
My question is..are there any good guides out there for building a decent character? Character gen seems decently involved with all the point allocation choices, and I don't want to waste my 15 days trying to find a non-gimped build if I don't have to. Then again, if the intital choices you make in char gen are insignificant anyway, let me know

although it hasnt been updated in a long time www.sbstratics.com has a player builder on it. Personally i would of waited and joined the test servewr next week. The lore server rule set will bew tested and may be the games saving grace to getting old players back.

I've read about this Lore Server, but being a complete noob to Shadowbane I don't fully understand what changes it makes to the game (obviously they're good changes by the positive reaction the community has to it).
I'll check out the character builder. Thanks.
The Lore Server is going to be a server that forces compliance with the Shadowbane lore, mostly in the form of guild charter requirements. Certain guild charters will only allow certain races and classes. Until now all servers have been a whatever-you-want kinda deal that allows people to form together the absolute best of the best race/class combinations and have them all together, which usually go completely against the lore set out on the Shadowbane website (i.e. on a normal server you could have a group which had a dwarf heal-priest, a couple mino barbarians, a Sun Dancer Irekei assassin, an elf channeler, a vampire scout, a shade warlock, a human templar, an elf crusader, and a Nephilim wizard, etc.). That's mixing elves and irekei, who hate eachother, templars and crusaders, who are from opposing religious factions, a vampire scout who both the templar and crusader would never work with, etc. On the lore server, each guild charter would have restrictions as to what races and classes can be in it, you can only group with members of your own nation, and you can not be allies with any guild of a different charter.
Aside from some people's obvious interest in the lore, these restrictions will make the game more interesting for character building options (for some, others prefer the ARAC style guilds). On the lore server, character builds that would be considered gimped on a normal server may actually be viable, since the reason they were considered gimped was the fact that some other race would work better for that class/build, but now that combination is no longer an option. It also means that classes will be used in new and interesting ways to make up for a certain charters weaknesses in a particular area.
The lore server has been something players have been asking for since the creation of the game, so clearly there are a lot of happy people. A lot of old guilds that had left the game have plans to come back for the lore server, which will give Shadowbane a much needed population boost. Others will be moving to the lore server soley for the population, not because they have any interest in the server set-up. Others that want to stay on their current servers aren't too happy about the lore server, because many people will be moving to it from their servers, which already have low population issues, and that will make it even worse.

It begs the question, why didn't Wolfpack introduce a Lore Server at release? Or, at the very least, 12-16 months ago when they started branching into different server types.
It seems like this server could double SB's overall population. I bet they're kicking themselves for not doing this sooner.
