If it's F2P, it's not the model people usually consider when one says "F2P", which when the term is brought up to most people, they typically think about a game that consists of almost all content available but with microtransactions.

"Extended Trial" is really the most accurate way of putting it when considering the context people normally use when using terms like "F2P" or "Trial".  This has all the hallmarks of a content-related (IE, up to a certain level or stage) trial except it's longer than most trials are. Thus the "extended" adjective.

I have enough peeves about FFXIV that made me quit after 6 months and never wanted to go back. However i would still say that when compared to the rest of the crap out there,it is a really good game.
Unlike most games i can't stand,if this was the last game on earth,i would play it ..lol.Hey don't mock me,at least i would play it,if was Wow or GW2 or TESO or Rift or Archeage or many of the rest,i would quit gaming.

IMO the trial is a very good ordeal,it gives you a really good play through of the game to see if you will want to continue.
Geesh in comparison,TemTem lost over 90% of it's play base after only 1 month as a MMO,so if SE is offering you 100x more content a bazillion times better game and all for FREE for quite a lengthy period, you bet your ass it's a good deal.

If you truly try to play the game, explore check out all it has to offer, you should EASILY get 3+ months of free gaming out of this, quite possibly even 4/5/6 months depending how many hours are put into it.

woah madness, loads of free content especially heavensward which is great.

Omg so much awesome content coming and all everyone can do is complain bout SE alowing new players to try out the game for longer. This is not even close to F2P not even in the slightest but I read through most of the comments till I could take no more. Come on this is going to be an awesome patch! Breath a little don't hyperventilate on a non existent issue!

Every one is entitled to their own opinion, but personally I see this as an extended trial.
I own SWtOR and have subbed to it, but I can play it for free when ever I like without re-subbing; same for ESO.
I CANNOT play FFXIV unless I re-subscribe (because I have already subbed to it), or create a new account. That's not F2P.

I have tried so many times through the years to slog through the ARR content and never have managed to make it. The fetch quests and combat were very slow and hard to push through. I also didn't like the color pallets in the content I played. It reminds me of old Xbox 360 games' pallets where they are very flat and neutral.

That said, I'm definitely gonna give it another try! I also have to say the engine that the game is running on is hands-down the most silky-smooth engine in any MMO I have ever played. It's absurd that I can get 120fps in a crowded town at 1440p while looking as nice as it does.

Are the servers still in Montreal?

I had pre ordered the box but stopped playing this game because the combat was really bad. When I played you couldn't rely on the red circles on the ground as there was some kind of lag or delay so if you dodged when the red circles appeared you still got hit even though on screen you were no where near the attack or circle...and vice versa you could dodge before the red circles appeared then move right back into the attack area and not get hit.... made tanking frustrating.

Brenics ~ Just to point out I do believe Chris Roberts is going down as the man who cheated backers and took down crowdfunding for gaming.
