Back in the day of SWG, I can never forget the sounds and atmosphere of being in Coronet. People yelling their services and selling stuff. People lining up waiting in line for their buffs from the doctors. The sounds of the ships taking off and landing, and the crafting machines running in the background. Looking at the giant skyscrapers and watching the noobs killing the little animals just off the the main concourse.

EQ1 - The tunnel of Ro when it was the live marketplace.

EQ1 - Kelethin. I loved that tree city.

For me the most memorable place in an MMO would be certainly be the Trollshaws and Rivendell in LOTRO. The autumn colored leaves, passing"through verdurous glooms and winding mossy ways" (keats). It reminds me of hiking through the mountains in autumn, where every new vista brings new discoveries and then to stumble upon Rivendell through a narrow cleft in the rock! I could stay in Rivendell forever.

A tie between the Jade Sea and the Echovald Forest of GW1. Such unique, beautiful environments.

Oh this is easy but for me it is a multi part answer. In Asheron's Call I have 4 very distinct experiences in the game from 2 different viewpoints.

    1. As a newbie at low levels I used to run the Glendonwood Deungeon over and over for the platemail hauberk. I literally could run the route in my sleep and it was the first time in my life playing video games where I felt like a god for knowing the route.

    2. As a veteran at low levels I would level up up in the Lugian citadels, specifically the citadel near Qalaba'r as it was the least crowded. Most AC'ers leveled up on Olthoi but I preffered the Lugians because the slower swing speeds and the ability to position at corners removed almost any need for stamina issues. since you weren';t as surrounded as you were with the bugs.

    3. As a newbie at higher level Ft Teth was the shit. I would camp the walls of the keep and safely shoot Umbris and Panumbra Shadows from a distant and would be all giddy with excitement whenever I landed a Imperil spell against their high magic defense. And the loot was amazing.

    4. As a veteran at higher levels I preferred the solitude of hunting solo on Aerlinthe Island. Mostly Banderlings and Drudges since the Golems were all camped by mages.

Sandbox means open world, non-linear gaming PERIOD!

Subscription Gaming, especially MMO gaming is a Cash grab bigger then the most P2W cash shop!

Bring Back Exploration and lengthy progression times. RPG's have always been about the Journey not the destination!!!

Probably the most beautiful and alive environment for me has been Ryzom.

Ryzom has a day and night cycle, it has seasons, it has weather. It has local wildlife where the predators chase the prey, or go back to their dens to sleep. Herds migrate depending on the season.

Some things are only available in specific circumstances, like at night, in the rain, in spring. Etc.

Many times I've just sat there in awe, watching the world.

This is a tough question for me as there are so many places that I hold dear. The first one that came to mind and that stands out the most right now is The Undercity from World of Warcraft.

I still remember the first time I saw the place after exiting the elevators from the ruins above. I was amazed by everything, but what I really loved was the way the music and ambiance matched the muck and the skulls everywhere. Best ‘evil’ city since Neriak (EQ).

Honorable mentions to Kithicor Forest, Highpass Keep, The Grey, Azshara, and Velketor’s Labyrinth.

Vault-Tec analysts have concluded that the odds of worldwide nuclear armaggeddon this decade are 17,143,762... to 1.

Sea of Spores in Lineage 2.

Not only did I come across it "by chance" but it was very serene and other worldly with the exception of having to keep a look out for Orfen. Which to me was also fun.

Also, the original Old Forest in Lord of the Rings Online.

Because of its temporary existence, Ascalon before its destruction in GW1. Well some players stayed there, and some masochists even found a way to level up there...

In BDO, there are so many places. I was impressed the first time I saw Calpheon by its size, the sheer amount of details, and the number of NPCs. And even if they are mostly static and give a wax museum feeling, it is so much better than the handful of quest givers we usually see in other MMOs.
In BDO, I like also the "mapless" area, namely the desert and the ocean. The feeling of being lost, reinforces the exploration pleasure. I just wish all these wonderful areas would be more meaningful gameplay wise.

Dark Age of Camelot. There was a spot near the Midgard starting area with a bridge over a small river surrounded by evergreens. It was especially nice when it was raining there.

Also my housing dimension in Rift, but that was an area I customized not some random spot, so it's different.

That would be the gates of Qeynos. It would be out of relief. I was starving.

I had started in Surefall Glade and there was only iron rations and if you remember they cost over a gold. Being a new player I was unable to buy them. I was automatically consuming every egg and those damn green snakes in Qeynos hills were not dropping many, almost the instant they went into my inventory. I was so hungry and I decided okay time to go to Qeynos. I think forage then was level 5 so no go there.

Follow the road, yeah okay great, dead two times and two corpse retrievals later I finally make it to the zone to Qeynos and I literally wept when I saw the front gates. Yeah most beautiful sight ever.

The picture has stolen my thunder, The Shire in Lotro is my favourite location, the design fits so well together and even today it is a place where you can bump into people roleplaying. For pure graphical excellence as I cannot say I am a fan of the game, Calpheon city in BDO, the MMO which uniquely has eastern avatars in a western landscape.

I'm playing SWG for the first time in my life since November 2019, haven't maxed out a character yet, still a level 71 Commando and haven't been to all planets, but out of the ones I was on, probably Naboo was the most pleasant to look at, second was Corelia, I still haven't been to Yavin 4 or Endor, but I'm thinking I'm gonna like those two a lot.

Mine was the Mos Eisley Cantina in SWG. I remember I had a particular seat there I used to log in sitting in everyday. I knew the loading was almost complete when I could hear Figrin D'an and the Modal Nodes playing through behind the load screen. Met a lot of folks passing through there, lots of random chit chat, duels, getting noobies to slap Storm Trooper NPC for a laugh. I remember the random blaster sounds outside from people farming thugs for blue rug pieces. Mos Eisley as whole was my favorite planet, it's where I started the game as a noob and spent my first week in the game.

My second char I ever made that ended up being my main in EQ was a Dark Elf Necro. Neriak starting city and the zone for newbs Nektolos was down right scary. The random yeps gong on. The constant darkness (darkness ment something in EQ) The mixture of mobs in the zone. It just creeped me out. The Halfling camp was a nice touch as well. Them being way to high a level for the zone and how you could easily get turned around in that zone, could have you face to face with a Halfling. Loved it.

I couldn't even begin to tell you how many hours I spent in DF! Not my favorite DAoC place, but it's up there.

EQ1 had many great, memorable locations.  Kelethin -- the place for drunken duels :).  Unrest -- a great haunted house.  Kedge Keep -- an underwater zone, where staying alive was the responsibility of the druid with a fishing addiction.  Even Surefall Glade was a picturesque place for an in-game wedding -- until the bears got involved.

Idle spinning my ship in station on EVE ONLINE.

Try Eve Echoes on mobile you old gamers out there, nice to sit back and chase people around without the back pain and carpal tunnel surgery. Only missed a few days of skill training! ^^
