I was in alpha and was disappointed with the open pvp and competition for scarce resources. The beta now is much beta with pvp being completely optional. With this round of beta, they finally have the fire and life wands implemented and they provide an interesting alternative to melee and ranged weapons. If it continues to improve, I plan to buy it on release.

Another Survival style game with some MMO elements thrown in!

I loved Conan Exiles...but just like all Survival style game....if you don't play 22 Hours a day, you may as well not play.

You couldn't be more wrong. There is no survival, shallow and simple as games on mobile and end game can be done after 2 days from the fresh start. 26 hours of game playtime to be specific. Personal experience.

Im not quite sure what you're saying.

Are you saying it has no survival aspects anymore and is more a true MMO now Like WoW, FF14, GW2...etc?

If that's true, I wish they would release some gameplay showing that. Im sure it would peak much more interest.

As of now, everything we've been shown has been basically a survival game with a few mmo features like leveling thrown in.
I mean the game is literally all over the internet this days, including on Twitch, so go check it out.

How you see NW basically a survival game, is a wonder for me! Because I don't see this shit!

    It isn't a survival game.

The only survival element that is has is the campfire mechanic.

But that alone doesn't make it a survival game, since you can put your campfire just about anywhere- it makes the game so damn easy
The complete foundation is based on the survival genre, from the way resources work to the map to the combat to the crafting to the UI. There is an MMORPG sprinkled on top but the survival genre is its DNA, something very obvious for people who know and play that genre. Stay critical, leave the BS at the door though.

Edit. I would even go as far as stating that most issues people have with the game stem from the fact that the game is more survival then MMORPG, the fighting, the map, lack of proper quests etc.

The game imo is far from MMORPG's like ESO and GW2. It lacks A LOT in the RP and the questing department.
It feels like a onedimensional MMO where it's all about PVP. An upgraded battleground with crafting and some questing. Not that I had a taste of the pvp but if that's not it then I don't see the point. Cause levling from 1 to 20 I really couldn't feel what the game is all about. You're stuck with repeatable quests from start. I probably should at least get to level cap before making judgement but that's how it feels right now.

But whatever, even if I'm right and it's lacking on many things, that doesn't mean it has to be this way forever. The world is big enough to add many things. Crafting is already there. They could add more direction and quests if they choose to.  It feels a bit sandboxy right now but that's just because it's lacking the obvious typical MMORPG things. I don't think it's trying to be a sandbox. Maybe it is. It definately could be one be one.

To be fair, I am sure most of those flagged during a beta test period would not normally stay flagged when released. In a test period with wiped progression (meaning time + progression has no value) everyone is more likely to flag just for the sake of it.

Once it goes live people flagged for pvp will drop drastically and focus more on progression.

Im loving the game so far. It has alot of old school MMO elements that I like. Normally i stay away from putting much time into a MMO beta (just to have my work deleted before launch) But im really enjoying the gameplay.

Its just pretty common when progression is meaningless during testing people are more likely to try out pvp. Once progression is saved and flagging for pvp would slow that progression people are going to flag a lot less.

At a loss of what CS is abbreviated for, so that would be a no.

Fyi - I'm reading on redit that players are frustrated that there is no way to stop botters/players from camping precious node spots.  They click within .1 sec of the node refreshing, without owpvp... no way to stop.  And this is just beta.

Anyone knows how the OWPVP is planned to be? Always on? On in some areas?

I haven't heard much after they scrapped the FA Full Loot

    Any alpha tester who knows?

I'd vote for Conan Exiles.  I think if you could custom build stuff like in conan Exiles, have similar server options (different choices of pve and pvp rulesets).  You might have a highly replayable game with a lot of sense of progression.

Originally, I thought that was what NW was going to be... Conan Exiles on steroids (1000 player servers vs 50 player servers).  There are a lot of similarities between the games (well from NW alpha).  Not exact copy, and not a bad thing.

One of the reasons I never got into Conan Exiles, just too small of a playerbase per server.  I do enjoy watching youtubes of what people build and raids/sieges.

I guess it's a good thing they are revealing the exploits now then. Maybe players should be insta-flagged the second they grab a node for a certain time period lol. It would be like in SWG when you shot up an opposing faction object or NPC, you got a TEF (temporary enemy flag) for 15 minutes. As long as you did no other actions the flag would toggle off. This would force folks to stand their ground.

There are some old-school mechanics that I like. Having to deal with encumbrance for the first time in forever is quite refreshing. Also you can train people in this game which I totally wasn't expecting lol. That brought back some memories.

However, there is basically no death penalty. I've been killing myself to fast travel when recall is on cd.

There are some other old school "mechanics" that I haven't seen in decades that I don't like... training is a thing in this game lol. Like WTF... welcome to 1999.

PVE'res would not like that, but some games spawn an enemy NPC when you click a node... to interrupt harvesting and mess with botters/macros by entering combat.  However, it's super annoying for legit players - imo.  I also don't think it works in practice (not sure).

I was flagged 100% of the time - because the best rewards come from PvP missions that require you to be flagged and not die.

This is why people are flagged - best XP and faction currency

So people flag because of progression - and as long as faction PvP missions reward the most XP it will stay like that at launch too.

Reading through the comments and game description I cannot figure out what to expect from this game.  I do not like "survival" games (which usually means crafting focused games with a little combat thrown in).  The comments from survival type game people saying this isn't one is giving me hope I may like it.

Is this game more or less crafting focused than FO76?  If less how much less? Can I be an effective player without crafting?

It doesn't have any of the eat/drink or die type survival game mechanics. Foods provide buffs, but they are easy to make.

I don't think you need to craft (maybe basic things like food for he buffs), but the quests are pretty much all "kill xx creatures and find xx items". There are no big story arks like in ESO or other games.

As mentioned and i mentioned it awhile back, they claim no forced pvp but if you are rewarded differently for pvp is is basically forced pvp.

I love survival games,i did not like Conan at all although i do like some of the textures on building structures.

This game imo is NOT a survival game at all ,it is DESIGNED as a pvp game that revolves around various hubs/POI.

A real pvp survival game would happen pretty much ANYWHERE except how Atlas does it where the "freeport" "starting zone" is off limits because it is for new player arrivals.I agree with this design.

Pvp needing to be flagged  sort of just works to allow them to sell their product to both pve and pvp gamers but in reality makes for a weaker product for both.

Bottom line and this happens ALL THE TIME,the players will be crying for change 100% of the time, nerf this buff that,it will NEVER stop. That is why i feel at least for me any idea of pvp is just a dead boring idea.

Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.

I know Crowfall might only appeal to a few here, because it's PVP focused.  But since both games might be releasing in proximity to each other, I think the PVP focused crowd will opt for Crowfall or neither.

At least crowfall has a clear direction and is trying to carve out a niche.

And I hope Crowfall publishes their final beta player numbers, because I think it will be well north of 50k.  Not bad for an indie pvp mmorpg.
