Back in my day minimum meant it won't run without it. I guess things changed.

Yep, cost isn't as much of an issue as it once was.

An older box i have became unbearable to use i caved and bought 2 evo 256 (all machines have 2 drives) as they were on sale, but still quite pricey. Literally brought the machine back to usable and still using it today all becasue of the ssd, and vid card fried dropped in 1050ti to match the machines age, and i play wow on that maxed no issues, fast load.

Fast forward to today I can buy a tera for less than the cost of what a single 256 on sale cost me back then.

Anyone thinking about upgrading to ssd, don't, just do, replace it with an ssd, if not for wow, then do it for your sanity.

The game RELEASED in 2004. It doesn't mean that is THE same game in terms of graphics, code, etc.

Ofc the SSD is not a hard requirement and I seriously doubt that for example, WoW customer service will turn you away when they hear that you are running the game on a HDD.

They just don't list the HDD anymore because a new PC will have a SSD anyway. This is mostly about the amount of storage space required, not the medium that it's stored on.

I didn't have an SSD until last year and that's only because my old drive was dying and needed to be replaced. Otherwise I'd still be gaming on a HDD and other people who have older computers likely are as well. Especially when you can easily upgrade things like memory and graphics cards as needed, and WoW doesn't typically have high graphics requirements anyway, I expect a lot of WoW players don't have brand new top end machines.

Dunno it's wow...I'm pretty sure it'll run on whatever you toss it at.

SSD's are obviously better for gaming but they do tend to die ALOT easier than traditional hard drives. Aside from that OH NOES WOW REQUIRES TECH FROM like what 16 years ago or so...

If you were talking about NAS systems or long term backup/cold storage you might have a point but not here in this thread.
