How does instant travel trivialize a game?  I remember instant travel in UO so many ways to port in that game, didnt feel trivial to me.   Why do you want to just run around all day ?  Why have the content of the game watch your character run?
    Two ways:

    1) If fast travelling works around challenges/fights.
    2) If there are localized economies/resources.

Note the ifs, it depends on how instant travel works with the rest of the game design. EVE for example has instant travel on CD (switching clones) but assets cannot be instantly transported. Mounts in GW2 did trivialize exploration in some ways (but it enriched it in others, it was a trade-off).
In New World, a lot of players on redit just suicide to insta travel... since there is no death penalty.

Mounts yes - but if implemented like the rest of the game, sandbox way. Add some wild horses you can tame.
And also, please, no silly giant panda or other retarded kiddie mount.
But you know they will turn up right? That's what always happens and this game does not even have any lore for players like me to say "hang on that's not in the lore!". Give it a year and anything from Amazon Prime could be a mount. Picard is doing well I hear, how about a miniature star ship Enterprise for us to ride around on? I am joking but BDO recently featured Cursed, so we may soon not be laughing so much. :)

That seems like a huge positive to me.

So, You don't like mounts and that means that people who like them shouldn't get them, gotcha.

It is a question of how fast players should be able to get around the game, too much speed and instant travel trivialises a game. But it all depends on how big the game is, if it is big enough mounts are a solid option.

If the graphics in the game is good enough, 'running around all day' is  part of the play. And I am not talking about a huge amount of running, just not instant travel from one scene/event to the next. It trivialises the game because it makes it more of a game and less of a world.

It's not simple as that. If there are mounts, they provide an advantage. They are implicitly forced on everyone through peer pressure. I won't be able to tell someone to wait for me because I do not want to use a mount.

Not wanting them in the game is a valid preference and design decision.

Peer pressure is subjective. Your argument against mounts is no more correct than the arguments for them. Once enough complaints are registered by the developers, one way or the other, they will decide on their "design philosophy". History has shown though, that eventually they cave to the demands for convenience in the game play. Mounts, teleports, stacking items, potions, increased storage options....etc usually show up at some point or another despite the supposed rigidity of the designer's philosophies. Most people can't stand to have their time arbitrarily wasted, especially through a medium that is supposed to be entertainment.
