Is it a coincidence Apple wants compensation for "damages" after their stock dropped?. How convenient.

I hate Apple, but I think Epic is boxing in the wrong weight class. Eitherway it will be glorious to watch them fight.

    It's a coincidence.

Apple is going for damages to strengthen their own position so that it wouldn't be one-sided thing where Epic gets to make claims against Apple, but rather a two-sided thing where both make claims against each other.

Apple will of course take the money if they eventually get awarded damages, but it's likely this isn't even a question of money, it just makes their position stronger when they can go for damages.

Epic isn't in the wrong weight class here. Even if Apple is bigger, both Apple and Epic are large enough that size doesn't really matter any more they've got resources to fight it out.

    Fight! Fight! Fight!

God, I wish there was a scenario in which Epic, Apple, and Google all just tore eachother apart.

Remember that stick figure Google Fight website? I wish that still existed as it did back in the day. Now it's just a stupid graph.

I can be coincidence and what's actually happening, but as others said, Apple would have gone after them anyway.

We all know epic is totally in the wrong here. They sound like one of their users being banned from one of their games.

    It's pretty funny.

Still Apple is pretty funny in that it doesn't like them to use outside payments but games from japan frequently allow outside purchases.. All in all it's super fucking weird that apple feels it's a closed economy for this era...It's super super super fucking greasy.

While what EPIC did with the ..alternative payment method on Fortnite is..kinky, the problem lays right here :

But Apple has also moved to restrict Epic’s ability to work on the Unreal Engine, which is widely used by third-party game developers. A Microsoft executive submitted testimony on Sunday that revoking Epic’s ability to maintain the Unreal Engine would cause significant problems for iOS versions of games using the engine, including Microsoft’s Forza.

That's where the real problem starts. Ok, ban Fortnite if they really tried to .. "rip" Apple off, but restrict EPIC's ability to work and maintain Unreal Engine, which A LOT of companies are using it?

And most of you still think that "Apple is right" ?

If Epic games didn't like the 30% cut platforms take, be it Apple, Xbox, Sony or Android. They should not have bypassed the platforms payment model and just taken Apple to court and changed the status quo. They cheated the system and the agreement they made when they put their app on the Apple Store. They have no place to sue for damages as they damaged themselves.

Why are people rooting for Epic's downfall? Sure, you don't like Fortnite, so hope for its demise all you want. Though there has never and may never be a game that releases as much content. But as far as I know Epic Games is really good for the gaming community. Without Epic Games we wouldn't have crossplay as we know it now, do you really want to roll that back? Their app store takes less of a cut from developers to try and drive that cost down on other platforms like steam, which seems quite nice to me. And of course they have done wonders for content creators, especially younger ones. Did I miss something where Epic Games is corrupt?

I'm not saying they're in the right here, just that I don't know where the desire for them to die comes from. Lose this legal issue, sure. But guys, things would be very different and I believe in a worse state for us gamers without Epic Games doing what they did the last few years. Do people not agree with this?

I never like it when the big guy goes after the little guy, (looking at Apples net worth of 2 trillion and Epics networth of 17 billion) I never supported Apple and this only cements it that I never will.

It indeed seems you've been missing a few things when it's down to EGS narrative.

    1. Cross play existed way before Epic Games Store. Unless you mean cross play between EGS and other platforms, which every non-EGS user can't care less about. If a game exists on multiple stores/platforms and is designed (the game!) to be cross play, "it just works" and not because of Epic had anything to do with it;
    2. their app takes "less cut" is just a marketing move to grab more market share by throwing free stuff at people, and having exclusives (pissing the customer base off).
How's that good for the gaming community?
    3. Wonders for content creators? Have you ever read their Eula/Tos? A creator automatically waves every right to their own creation over there, Epic can rip off everything and re-package/re-sell/re-monetize the way they see fit, potentially make millions and the creator is not entitled to a dime.

And let's not forget the initial snafu with EGS client bypassing legit way of accessing userprofile info, harvesting data from steam profiles specifically made private when EGS client and steam client were running on the same machine - which they admitted doing.

Epic is in the right, Google and Apple joined together to lock the cost at 30%.If there was some form of competition then would be a tough sell but they both agreed to charge 30% because they know they have the power, the monopolistic power to do so.There is only the TWO stores you either pick Apple or Google so you can see how that kind of power determines the price and the consumer is the one left with NO CHOICE.

The government the past 10 years has gone after monopolistic behavior often weather their intent is for the consumer or themselves who really knows.

No matter Epic has a Lawyer that used to work for the government antitrust department,so he knows the laws on the subject.Besides other businesses have been fighting against the 30% monopoly price as well,so there is definitely some anger out there.

Personally the way a FAIR economy is suppose to work is there is competition, example Epic charges less Apple more,so if Apple wants to compete they need to bring their price down, that is how it works to ensure the consumer is treated fair and that OTHER businesses have a chance to compete in the same market.Apple and Google are trying to tell Epic they CANNOT compete in the market, that is why i lol Epic is not losing this battle unless they want to just settle.

I'm no Apple fan, but Yes. Cause and Effect. Epic started the whole ball rolling. They agreed to the terms, they decided to break them.  It's that simple.  Everything that has or will happen because of that choice THEY made.  Is on them. Don't think Apple's 30% cut is fair? Cool. Don't agree to follow it. Start a petition, start negotiations, just don't put your product on their store. It's like people arguing that Steam had a monopoly.

That info is outdated. Epic has a separate developer account for Unreal Engine development & support. That one is not closed and Apple is not allowed to close it either. Ordered by a Judge.

Exactly! It's all about "evil" Apple all the sudden, but people seem to conveniently forget that Epic has been kicked out of the Google Play Store too for the exact same thing!
Google also takes a 30% cut from Apps in their Play Store. No different than Apple's App Store!

It's just that Apple generates more clicks in media reporting that it takes up all the headlines. There is an exact same legal battle going on right now between Epic and Google for the exact same thing.

Epic agreed to Apple's and Google's App / Play store terms years ago and now suddenly decide on their own to breach them, because Epic has grown so huge in size and finances, that it has become greedy and want all the profit for themselves, but still keep the benefits of using Apple's and Google's App store platform!

The 30% cut is only for the first year. After that both Apple and Google only take a 15% cut, which is very reasonable. So Epic wasn't even paying 30% of the App profits anymore, but was already down to 15%.

Like Apple rightfully said. Epic has made hundreds of millions of dollars in profits from the iOS store with Fortnite alone. The same on the Google Play store. It has nothing to complain about.

PS. Lets also not forget here, that Epic employs the same profit cut strategy with their own Unreal Engine, where they take a percentage of the profit from developers who create and sell games based on their Unreal Engine. Unless you are a very large and rich studio that has the capital to buy themselves out of such agreement!

All big corporations that are on the stock market and have to constantly please their shareholders are like that.

When it comes to Apple, to be honest, compared to Samsung, Apple is the holy saint. Samsung one of the worst among them. Having willfully poisoned their employees for many years in their factories, sending them to their horrible deaths due to cancer, etc.

When it comes to Google and Android. At least Apple cares about your privacy and doesn't have to sell your data for profit like Google does on all their Android devices.

Nothing comes for free! I rather pay a premium for an Apple phone, then buying an Android phone and have it collect all your data. Hell you can even pay more than then iPhone today for a Samsung Galaxy phone and still have it track you and collect all your data lol.
