Interesting, but probably not for me. Isomorphic and probably not enough diversity to hold my attention for long. Besides, as several people have already pointed out, the name is too similar to Wakanda. If someone has to make a game based on a real world culture, I'd rather see something based on India -- maybe 13th or 14th century.
I started life as an archaeologist, I'd rather not see a company mess up historical cultures.
I dunno. I think the imagery from various African mythologies would translate really well to a video game. They are also different enough from Western and Asian myths that you could riff off a lot of the creation myths and such and it would be new stories to most people.
Do you trust a game designer to do a single culture properly, much less multiple cultures? When a developer gets a real world culture wrong, there will be people who get miffed with that company. Best not to risk upsetting people in these politically sensitive times.
I don't care if they get it right. It's a fantasy game. I don't mind when people riffed on Western middle ages myths and I don't mind it with other mythologies either. One of WoW's best strengths is that it bites other stories and riffs on them...
People will find a reason to get bent out of shape. Fortunately, middle-aged housewives on Twitter have no power to call racism when the game is being designed by the culture that the outrage mob presumes to speak for. They'll try, but it will be like when they tried that nonsense with Cyberpunk and the creator told them to STFU.
Not trying to convince you, but I think it could be pretty cool. One of the most exciting thing with Assassins Creed and GTA is which culture they are going to base the game around. It's never historically or culturally accurate, but it gives a base in which to build your story around. I'm not dumb and I know that Riot is pandering. I also think that the African mythology is very rich and unique and has rarely been done in a fantasy world.
Everything about the proposed gameplay is very exciting to me, as is the unique setting. Truly a breath of fresh air. I try not to indulge in hype but...I'm kinda hyped!

It's funny that half the team is white and that's the technical part of the team. The only blacks are the ceo the "writer" and some guy without a job description.
Seems like the kind of game that the white people your see eat blm riots would buy just to "support" the cause

Considering they are doing all the heavy lifting making it I would hope not.
