Much has been made about the 0.6% rate of getting a 5 star character. But there's a lot more to the reasonableness of a gacha system than that. There's a huge difference between:
1) Each draw has a 0.6% chance of giving you something good, and you get 10 free draws per day. 2) Each draw has a 0.6% chance of giving you something good, but the only way to ever get any draws is to buy them for $1 each.
There's also a huge difference between:
1) Draws and probabilities come at a given rate, but once you get that one five star character, you need any other draws to power up that particular character. 2) Draws and probablities come at a given rate, and in order to fully power up a five star character, you have to get 20 copies of the character and merge them together.
And there's even a huge difference between:
1) Only the whales have the top powered characters, but you can play the entire game just fine without them. 2) Only the whales have the top powered characters, and everyone else hits a wall at some point at which they basically must become a whale to progress. 3) Only the whales have the top powered characters, and everyone else gets harassed and killed by the whales with no way to defend themselves.
Option (1) is not my preferred business model. But it doesn't wreck a game the way that (2) or (3) do.
Umm, how are you getting 10 free draws per day? My earn rate of Primogems is nowhere near that.
Also, I'm pretty sure Stella Fortunes are character specific for upgrades.
This makes me sad. It's a fun game but the monitization is disgusting. The fact that's it's doing so well means we're going to see more and more of this.

I'm saying that different gacha games do it differently. I don't know how this one does it.
Basic summary: 0.6% 5 star rate with a 90 summon pity guarantee 5%-ish 4 star rate with a 10 summon pity guarantee
In other words, really pathetically bad summon rates.
Characters can reach max level without duplicates (aka, they're useful, unlike non-max duplicated dragons in something like Dragalia Lost - the closest comparison game I can think of). However, they have additional passives that do require additional copies to unlock (you could consider this the necessary evil for a game that allows duplicates, but I really think they should have gone with non-duplicate summons like GW2 does for its mount boxes).
However, in regards to business model, I think this game is highly, and I mean highly emphasizing subscription players over whales. The premium currency is stupidly expensive (somewhere along the lines of $25-30 per 10 summons, which is so not worth it), and the best way to purchase it is through a $5/month login pass and/or a $10/month battle pass that also gives you other stuff. With the summon rates as bad as they are and the currency as expensive as it is, heavy spenders would have to spend thousands of dollars to have a substantial benefit over light spenders using the subscriptions.
All of this was taken from here. I really don't care enough to verify it, and I don't really intend on spending money as of yet:
And yes, it's really terrible seeing the entire thing in context. This really should have just been a buy to play game, because the game quality is worth it.
