1 Terabyte HDD should be plenty for your wifes photo editing. As I too am a media creator and my media drive is only 600+ gigs out of 1 tera bit. which has uncompressed video files , After Effects, Photography ect. 1Terabyte should be like 30 or 50 bucks.
Depends very much on the person. I know people where 1TB is a drop in the bucket for their photography projects.

If you read the thread, his wife already has over 3 TB of data. You're not going to fit that on a 1 TB hard drive.
