If anyone's been through the small business game, given that they didn't explicitly state it was Series B funding its probably closing out the seed round with 7 figures and we can assume its in the low 7 figures.
Which honestly is fine, you really only want to take in as much money as you need to bring yourself to the next stage of your business, so this probably ~1.5-2mil is going to fund new engineers and artists.
The January Producers letter painted the announcement in a slightly less sensational light.

"We are happy to announce that earlier this month, Pantheon: Rise of the Fallen received additional funding from a private party. While this is not full funding, it does allow us a nice runway to get the recently-completed evaluation build out to additional potential partners while hitting some major milestones in 2021. One take away I had after reading that release. So Pantheon was most anticipated 4 years in a row at MMORPG and it was 2nd at another site.
So if another game in lets say a shooter category was that hyped, wouldn't it easily get funded by a company for 10mil to 100mil to make it?
According to Wiki, WoW cost only 40 mil to make including marketing, yet is one of the top franchises grossing 11 billion revenue. Call of Duty cost 250mil just one game. Tomb Raider cost 100mil.
I find it ridiculous that a MMO this hyped didn't get big AAA money.

Hyped? By small groups of people looking for a rather old school experience?
No, I'm not surprised it didn't get huge amounts of money. Heck, given how they started off I'm surprised they got any money.

From their kickstarter that failed how they have managed to keep going has been a wonder. They are the most stubborn bunch of developers on this rock we call Earth. If anyone can pull off a Hail Mary it gonna be VR. This really is the biggest Hail Mary in gaming I have ever seen.

I'm am not putting VR down for it. I am actually upset at big investors for not getting on board. If they had 100mil what kind of product could they have made.
You say small amount of people voting, but they are beating all these big budget games and their expansions, so it cant be too small. They are obviously offering something enough people want to vote them number one. Whether or not they can live up to the hype is a different story.

Being voted number one on a small change site like this isn't likely to have investors flocking to fund the game.
Heck my guess is most investment firms have never heard of MMORPG.com, not like it's PCGamer.

Does PC Gamer even let the fans choose a most anticipated? Ya I am sure the big studios just buy these people off.

Hmm, how about MassivelyOP? Ashes of Creation managed to dethrone Pantheon in the Community poll for 2020, though I suspect had they released their Jan livestream out back in December they might have won most anticipated for the 3rd year in a row.

Pantheon failed their Kickstarter. For investors that's the popularity vote that matters.
