I think the early access may be because of limited content. What is in the game has played great so far. Maybe missing some polish but I’ve been pleasantly surprised overall. Been playing since it launched on Tuesday with 3 buddies. We play for maybe 3-4 hours a night. Have not really looked up anything on the internet so figuring it out as we go. We just found the location of the 3rd boss. I believe there are 5 overall. So we could be done in another week or 2. Hopefully they can push out content at a decent pace.

I looked in on the Reddit threads of this game and people have built some great looking stuff. The imagination and creativity is what this game offers. Quite remarkable really and rewarding to those who made the effort to build and create using the tools afforded. I feel you have to look beyond the graphics at what the game offers, that is, the freedom to create.
Wife and I can't stop playing! 35 hours in the last 6 days and we just killed the 2nd boss last night. Having too much fun exploring, running from trolls, exploring, running from large packs of Greylings, exploring, running for your life down a hill with a tree you just chopped rolling after you, building small outposts because we found a pretty area, exploring, finding an even cooler place to build an outpost, exploring in our new boat, sailing for our lives as giant shrieking eels (minus shrieking) started attacking the boat while we were oooh-ing and ahhh-ing scary looking swamplands...
We're having so much fun.
As for graphics... it's an interesting art style. Close up textures give you the N64 feeling everyone seems focused on. But the moment you look at anything beyond 10 feet from your character the world is just gorgeous.
The lighting is incredible. Storms are terrifying and beautiful to behold as the creepy woods are suddenly lit up by lightning. When the fog comes you'll constantly be looking over your shoulder for glowing eyes peering through the thick haze.
Looking out at the ocean while its storming is just awesome. Sailing on the rolling water, unable to see how close to shore you are, with torrential rains and flashes of lightning is something you have to experience.
So yeah, if you play games to stare at textures close up to your character's face rather than looking at the world beyond your spear thrust... well, sorry you can't find joy in such an awesome game. An inexpensive, huge, beautiful, awesome game.
Initially it was the graphics that caught my attention back when this game was announced and so I immediately applied for the beta. When I got access I tested it a bit, was pleasantly surprised but didn't play to much because I didn't want to be spoilered to much.
I honestly expected the game to become a total niche product with a small community and was sure that non of my friends will even consider to play this.
Fast forward and we have an overwhelmingly positive on steam, coverage on every major gaming site and 7 friends playing it on our own server.
This game is like a dream come true for me
One thing I must also mention is that this game is something about 1000MB small and what this 1000MB are able to create is nothing but a small technical masterpiece.
While the pixelated style might not be for everyone (personally I love it) it is the lighting and more important the sound that makes this game so immersive.
So far no other game gave me such an impressive feeling of being (almost) lost in the woods. The soundscape in this game is unbelievable. Wearing headphones you can spot every creature by their sound including their distance. The weather effects like storms or mist are stunning. All made by roughly 1000MB. Nothing but impressive.
This game deserves all the praise it gets right now and I highly recommend it!

^^ Lovely shot. Yes close up you can be a bit nitpicky but man that looks lovely. The freedom I see to let your imagination go wild is the real draw to the game.
First impressions was not great to be honest. Building my main house, seemed a bit clunky compared to modded Ark.
15 hours in the game started to get better for me, my main house was pretty much done. I like the way the resources are placed in the game, kind of pushes you out into the world to get them. I also like how the skill gain gets better as you use the skills, no points required.
30 hours in, the game feels much better now, I love how much exploration there is. Movement seems much better, with proper food and potions seems like the game is really taking off. I am only at the 2nd boss. Hopefully there is enough content for another 70 hours, definitely worth $20 at this point. I just recommended it to friends so we going to get a server going. Hopefully its still fun with multiple people.
The one thing I am really impressed with however, is how polished the game is already. I cant even think of a bug I have encountered yet. They deserve credit for releasing a polished game in early access.
