This is actually looking good, rather than releasing an unfinished rushed product.
Yes, releasing a more finished product is always better but you don't need to announce and then cancel multiple release dates to do that.
I've lost count but this is at least the 3rd if not 4th release date cancelation and postponement. Doesn't exactly make them look good at project management.

Better to give a date and delay than to never provide any date at all.

No harm, no foul in my book.
At least they delayed it early. I hate those last minute delays when they have been pushing sales and FOMO.

I noticed their announcement of a new 20 x 20 player battle mode, guess the promises of larger scale fights is basically out the window, at least for now.

Not a replacement for the 50 v. 50 but additions that were sorely needed.
I've been saying for over a year that they had a conspicuous lack of on-demand group game play for both PvE and PvP. They only had the 50 v 50 PvP and the 50 player PvE against waves of mobs. There are multiple problems with those being the only "formal" group content. For one thing they happen infrequently with the PvE one only once a week and they are also pre-scheduled with sign up board for the randomly selected player spots. But most of the players are selected by the guild/outpost leader. If the RNG isn't good to you or you're not buds with the guild leader, you could potentially go weeks without seeing any of that action.
These new "expeditions" is their name for 5-man group dungeons and "outpost rush" sounds like a repeatable PvP battleground kind of thing.
These are both great additions. Without them, they didn't have a hope in hell of long term retention. If done well, now they do have a chance.

It's a good sign that they realized that they need more work on the game than the prior deadline provided.
However, it's a bit concerning that the delay is for the end-game, and they believe the game won't work without that element at launch. It makes me think that the actual content between the start and end-game isn't enough. I guess we'll have to see what actually shows up for the pre-release beta/demo thing.
Logic, my dear, merely enables one to be wrong with great authority.
You know i will be the first to chime in if i see something dirty or not right in a game or by the devs but i don't see this as an issue at all.
I have NEVER had a problem with a team delaying their game if it appears the only agenda is to make the game better. Example SC is NOT delaying their game to make it better they are doing it to sell ships and keep making new ships to sell rather than devoting that time to the actual game play.
Any game/dev that is somehow attaining money by delaying cannot be trusted at all. However Amazon is not getting any money by delaying and believe me you,it hurts a business big time knowing everyday it is not making money a lot of packets are not getting bonuses.
Personally i am all for a team taking whatever time they need to get it right,i mean they could have just pulled off the EARLY ACCESS scam so many devs are using now a days ..cough Valheim ..cough.
Amazon houses soem very smart, intelligent people i know for FACT that they know what is needed to make this game AAA,so maybe cut them some slack and let's see if they pull off AAA?
Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.
Like seriously are people going to complain about a delay from a team not making money and praise and brag about Valheim that half assed 99% of it's design?
Like when i watch streeamers play Valheim ,literally every 2 minutes i see something wrong with the game design and how they put no effort in to some ideas like the boat and many LACK OF and peopel are like 2 million sold...lol,who cares,if the game is shallow and weak ,seriously who cares how many units the ysell.
I rather see Valheim do like Amazon, make NO sales until the game is FINISHED and then stand behind your product.I am seriously TIRED of the early access>>EXCUSE.
Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.
Doesn't seem like a likely release date when they're only offering closed beta the month before the supposed release. Shouldn't it be in open Beta at that point?
This could end up being the next Star Citizen (Eternal development with little to show) if they aren't careful. At least there is actually more of a narrative there, SC there doesn't even have a coherent or cohesive story, even a decade later. It's just fly around pew-pew /screenshot.
I hope Amazon at least fleshes out their story a bit more, i would hate for this game to be nothing more than a screenshot generator.

Since Amazon is not charging people until the game ships I am not sure what the incentive would be for them to extend development eternally AKA StarCitizen style.

With the lies out, they are slipping Keep on failing, keep on tripping They are stupid and contagious here we are now, entertain us Every project a disaster Bow to Smedley He's your master
Yeah!
Really showing your age with this one ;p Really liked the modified lyrics though.
When I was a kid and used to go to the local magic store the one trick I could never afford to buy cause I think it was around 50-100 bucks in 1985 was the faucet that could make water come out without being connected to anything. The water reserve was located within the faucet.
I am repeating myself about this topic for the 50th time(literally) but this game studio is exactly like that magic trick. They never need YOU/US or to launch cause their water/money/pay is located where they are. As long as they delay indefinitely they will get paid indefinitely, do you get it? These notices to the public letting us know about the SECOND delay(now 2 years) that everyone here is praising as something amazing is actually them mocking us dumb gamers. While they collect hundreds of thousands in pay we the idiot peasants really believe that somehow a game that was flawed from the start OR destroyed when they pulled that 180 will be miraculously turned around and be our dream game.. Somehow they will find vision that will transform mediocrity into greatness if they throw a few more hundreds of millions at it...
A 2 year delay so far for a survival game that has already burned through hundreds of millions over FIVE YEARS of development. How much longer does a studio that has spent BILLIONS need to complete a mediocre survival game with nice gfx?
"Delay sucks no matter what because they're adding quests which must mean its not Open World!!"
What an incredibly dumb hill to chose to die on lmao
I'm really sad about the release date pushed back because I'm looking forward to this game.....kinda catch 22 though.....I'd rather wait for a game that has stuff for everyone to do rather than catering strictly to the PvPers...and I'm part of that PvP camp...also people need some content to chew on for at least 4-6 months, giving the dev team to keep up with the content demand post-release.
Good news though is the addition of the 20v20....definitely gives the smaller guys a chance to participate it some meaningful PvP if you cant muster 50 people for a large scale.
It does make me wonder whether or not this will be some sort of ranked match implementation...which would be really cool IMO...reminiscent of old school GvG in Guild Wars 1...that's a probably a reach but it would be awesome.
The 5 man dungeons are a nice addition. They keep refining these features and polishing it up the game has some serious staying power...regardless of what Jason Schreirer OPed with an inside dev about how Lumberyard is killing the project (kinda ridiculous speculation tbh)
Wait! So people preorder game because of X, and then start sh1tting about game, then game gets delayed, some people are happy and some are not, then game gets delayed again and same thing happens, some people are happy and some are not.
SO
1. If you preordered game, why are you sh1tting about game? Why did you preorder it?
2. If you preordered game and you say that game is not finished, how do you know it?
If any company says this is what you can do in our game, thats what you should get. Thats why people do preorders, they like what they read/see about game. If delay is about polishing thats fine, but delaying game because they want to "pack" polishing with new pvp mode, instances and zone is not good. They should release content update after release for new pvp mode, instances and zone.
I am looking forward to New World very much. Another delay sucks as I've already preordered, but I'm willing to stick it out until July closed beta. If they delay the launch again for 3 months or more then I'll start to wonder if I should just cancel. Besides, if it weren't for this last delay I'd never have even looked at something like Valheim...
As for Valheim - it has its shortcomings - but it's really scratching an itch for me like nothing else I've played in a while. It's early access from a small studio, so I wasn't expecting perfection, and I certainly wasn't expecting it to fulfill my every gaming desire; but what I have gotten so far (playing multiplayer) for 20 bucks is some great fun.
Comments
I still question if it will be ready by then.
