Service transfers have been underway in Black Desert Online since late January, though the team at Pearl Abyss is givng BDO players a deadline to ensure their accounts are transferred. Any account not transferred to a Pearl Abyss account will be deleted on May 31st, according to the MMO developer.

    So how does this work for Steam players? Since the account is tied in with steam its self.

    When I transferred mine through Steam, you go to the website linked in the article and sign in through steam. From there it'll walk you through the process to pre-register your steam account for a Pearl Abyss account transfer. Pretty seamless in my experience,

    Pearl Abyss has no access to Kakaos account servers as those are 100% owned by Kakao - so if players don't transfer their characters how can PA obtain the character data that is on Kakaos servers?

    They can't which is why they go away.

    And Kakao is going to wipe those servers as they are not the publisher anymore so they are not going to keep those around as contract states that at the end of service all game related data must be wiped

    This is just standard business when it comes to transfer of mmo service from one company to another, this is why players agreeing to and initiating the character transfer for their account is critical. PA can't just take the character data that Kakao owns and Kakao can't give it to them without each player consent.
    They could have just mass migrated every account. I have had companies that I have services with, that have been bought out and they just had all my account information and log in setup. I didnt need to request anything. Pearl Abyss could have done the same thing. This looks more about a way to drop old inactive accounts.

    It reminds me of MMOs that send out a warning they are removing names from char on accounts if they dont log in. I get it, they want to free up names for new players. But I have had warning end up in span folder and not seen them. When I went back to said game. See my names all messed up. I walk away.

    I needed to use a Chrome based browser (in my case Edge) because my Firefox setup is kind of locked down and a bit restrictive - UBlock, no cross site scripting, and no tracking methods allowed. Plus I use Firefox containers to compartmentalize social media, gaming, etc. That pretty much breaks this. Just an FYI for those with a more locked down setup.

    My Edge setup has Ublock (which I disabled for this) and much less restrictive settings and it worked really well.

    If people have problems transferring, trying another browser may help.

    Just run it without all your blocks like any normal person would instead of detailing to the internet your security set up like that's not the biggest security flaw you got.

    It took like 3 seconds. Took longer for the gmail for my steam authent than the actual transfer.

    As for it being automated...dude lol.... You ever mass automate a billion accounts plus?
    ME neither but i bet it's a nightmare to set up and pay for.

    Just have the users do it and reward em with stuff...I'd rather them give me the junk they are rather than on launch day find out the robot said Fk you and decided to delete the entire data base.

    Never say never as in i doubt i'd ever return to the game anyway, and no way i'm going to bother jumping through hoops for this to save whatever i did there, but ultimately i concur with Nanfoodle 200%!!!

    Never in a trillion years i thought i'd be main'ing wow as top mmorpg for me, NEVER, practically unheard of, but it's PC only, lots of spells gawd i hate console setup's such as ESO's 4 button no wonder combat sucks, the game excels on other aspects not trashing it, and FFXIV another great mmo but paying to skip game to catch up cause basically they admit it's too long a corridor haul i need freedom, but yeah lots of peeps like that i mean i loved it at first too.

    But wow is so much like EQ2. I went horde for all of BFA, and now back on my OG Alliance DAY 1 character in WOW, think about that, a character i'd not touched in 15 years i'm playing it, not my main rolled a new toon fire mage adn amining that, sweet class if get good, i'm getting better, but boy its keeping me hooked for a class which doesn't have a pet, pet class's are usually my fav's.

    Seriously, I can log into any mmorpg i haven't played in well over decade and all my stuff is still there even though people asked me "can i have your stuff?" when i was leaving :) lmao

    Sounds good but RL often leave people behind on things like this. How many accounts and passwords and email addies do people have these days? Someone getting married gets a new email addy because of a name change and forgets a few accounts attached to the old email. Email accounts get hacked and need to be abandoned. Pearl Abyss could pay to have the accounts held for a year, that would be more fair to customers that could lose many hours of play lost and not to mention cold hard cash they dropped on the game. This was Pearl Abyss that decided to not run their own game and not to take it back. I still think its on them.

    It's funny as this is the first i heard of this, not one email, which means it's probably getting filtered, and i need to go to another site to check my spam emails, which i've only ever done twice when i was expecting an email so had to go there and release it and whitelist it.

    This is a ludicrous way of handling this and shocked any one would lobby with them and the way they are handling it?

    It's called migrating and any capable programmer or it team could easily do this.

    All the intellectuals here who try to defend Pearl:
    I would have preferred Pearl do the transfers. All they had to do is make it extra simple with confirming our account information. Not have to sign up for a new account. I understand there are some people who apparently have plenty of time on their hands but not all of us have that luxury of worrying about every account we have. COVID has complicated things immensely. You know that virus thing?
    Well, I just transferred my account today before the wipe deadline. And guess what? None of my stuff nor characters are showing up. Pearl has me as a new account and they want me to buy the game again before playing. This is after I TRANSFERRED my account which should have included my stuff.
    Now I have to waste time contacting support which was also a pain as it was not working correctly and took me forever to finally get a ticket in. Now I have to wait and use up more of my precious time dealing with this hassle.
    So yeah. Not cool !!!
