New World has seen delay after delay, all of which have been chalked up to the need to implement more mid-to-late game content for players to enjoy. While the Amazon made MMO is on its way towards a summer release, it took some time this week to explore its vision for some of that PvE content, namely its Expeditions.

Baby steps toward a genuine PvE MMO. Good to see they're not just doing end game dungeons.

Kind of funny though. Their blog reads as if they've just invented the wheel instead of the same repeatable dungeon runs MMOs have had for 20 years.

Don't forget that this is the same studio that when asked if there would be dual wielding said (paraphrasing): "Well you can hold a weapon in one hand and a shield in the other, so yes."

I have very very low expectations for these dungeons and somehow i believe they will not even come close to meeting them.

The positive vibes here make me feel like I'm not getting the game.

You're getting it whether you want it or not :)

If you don't buy it, Sooner or later it'll just show up in an amazon order and install itself.

Let's create a WORLD then stick you in instances.../sad.Instance gaming is the cop out,the lazy approach.
This again proves that Survival games have already passed the other genres with persistent open worlds.
The LAST thing I want to do in gaming is instances, this was Blizzard's lazy approach with Wow.

I still and will always love the first version of this game.. I sunk a ton of hours into it buying a land deed picking a area and building with my clan. Teaming up with other small guilds to try and fight the bigger clans at the time of the game.. Go out and find t4-t5 resources and try and get them back before you got caught out by another player.. I will always miss that game..

I'd hate to say this but I gotta agree with Wizardry.. Instances are the way of the past, but than again Wizardry if they weren't instance base than you just have the sweaty ooks camping whatever chest or valuables in these dungeons... Than there would be an uproar about it.. Its not like you can fight anyone in these dungeons if they were open.

Totally agree here. MMo's are dead because the worlds are dead level treadmills. The survival ( non level based) platform is far superior and makes for better worlds. Especially if it includes worldbuilding/basebuilding. As you say its inevitable that the survival genre will completely replace the traditional mmo landscape which is totally played out and obsolete.

Instance dungeons are necessary to avoid harassment and hogging of resources. I don't know what you guys are talking about...

That said, a mixture of the two wouldn't be bad too.

Lore and story events in dungeons rarely work how developers think it will. If you are in a PuG people just want to rush it, even with friends they don't want to read text or wait for a slow NPC escort.

That stuff works better with quests imo, they shouldn't waste development time trying to put anything that isn't streamlined and quickly absorbable in dungeons.

I got copies for free for the family. True story.  When it was first announced years ago it was going to be F2P so it had a cost of $0.00 on Amazon and they honored it.  I can see them adding it as a freebie for Prime at some point.

Whether it’s good or not I’m sure they will insure millions of “players” for their ads.

If the groups aren't limited to the server you're on, there will be no familiarity, as you'll be paired up with rando's.
Nothing wrong with a group finder for instances, as long as it's scope is server only, not global/all-servers.

That is the direction WoW went with, and it killed all sense of server community & reputation.
Hopefully New World doesn't repeat the same mistakes of history.

Somehow this looks like an even more boring, if possible, version of ESO.

LOL, I except I don't think there *is* such a possibility.

Well with Amazon involved there is little doubt it will cater to the masses and we know how those games end up.
  • olepiolepi Member EpicPosts: 3,057
I hope they don't do the same as ESO.

Put some nice armor or weapon reward for running the dungeon, but fix the RNG so that you almost never get it. Then you'll have to run the same dungeon dozens of even hundreds of times to get what you want.

    And they call that "content".

New World needed a complete team change, they focused on nothing but the GFX in the delusion that shiny alongside a really poor PvP combat system would carry it. When it was clear that wasnt going to cut it they postponed it a year to shoehorn PvE into the game and 5 man instances is what it came up with?

    Looks like Anthem 3.0

I think they are going to flop really hard. It is like they had concept of car on paper, but they told they are building a plane and wanted to appeal plane people. When people got to try the prototype it didn't feel like plane at all, but it was closer to car and appealed car audience. After feedback they realized that tester were right, that aint plane. Then in hurry they tried glue wings on it to make look more like a plane, but still it didn't take off. So they cancelled the release and started fixing it in long term. Now it seems they have come up with plan to weld those wing instead of using the glue. Problem is that it is still botched up vehicle ,mix of both car and plane, that seems not to appeal neither of the audiences. If you want to build a plane, you start from plane concept and not with car concept.
