Considering a minstrel and a bard are the same thing, not sure I consider a copy/paste class "new".
Well, they're not exactly the same thing but close enough.
And for a fantasy game, it doesn't really matter. I suppose it just depends on how this game creates the class, is it solely a support class or something more?
Like Skyrim? Need more content? Try my Skyrim mod "Godfred's Tomb."
Might have to dust off my old Neverwinter account and give this game a try again purely for this class.
Lol, unless your be 50+item level unless you level all pets to 3000% ,companions, and mount collars good luck lol. Unless you spend serious money you will never be top tier.
i hope this leads to them opening up more class opportunities, probably not, but if bard is on the table who knows
i really liked the premise of the game and the original player created content, and the fan service to baldurs gate fans
its just every time i try to get back into this game, they reset all my skills, talents, everything and i got to look up new guides
Despite some problems with the game being P2W later on, I think it's very overlooked by people. But the developers need to improve it more than just being content with it and milking it.

Where did he ever mention wanting to be top tier or stuff like that? All he said was that he's going to try the game with the new class.. I don't get why everyone acts like you can't enjoy the game because it's "P2W"

The Minstrel is from Lord of the Rings Online, Bard is in Neverwinter Online, so they aren't just a copy paste, unless your definition of copy paste is so broad it would require fitting the entire MMORPG genre into "Copy/paste".
Yep, minstrel is in LotRO, and it's a light armour healer - with lutes and other instruments, for sure.
Bard in D&D has traveled a long journey, from a "unique" fighter, through a rogue, into something like a lore master, and regardless of 4th or 5th ed. they will use for the actual implementation (Neverwinter is offcially 4th, but Cryptic tries to steer it towards 5th during the recent years) it's more of a CC/support/debuff class. Also with lutes.
Speaking of those recent years, the "first time since 2016 for a new class" is a long period, but with closer inspection it's worse: first time since 2019 (Mod16).
How is it worse, one might ask?
Well, the whole premise of that fuckery was the new classes.
"We add forced scaling, we nerf classes to the ground, we remove stats and powers, change stats, the companions, etc.... but fear not, it's all necessary evil for the new classes we will add to the game, later this year."
I've been bashing Mod16 since 2019 as something which ruined most of the game for me (mainly forced scaling and gutted classes).
Runner-ups in stupid changes are workshop instead of professions, and content removal this last time.
And, to make my no-no list complete, I used to be quite vocal against streamlining, watering down, you name it...
Why is that list above? And how is it related to the thread?
Well, the latest dev post detailed what else will arrive alongside the Bard... and it's pretty much a dethroning of Mod16, apparently Mod21 will be a culmination of stupid.
I've barely played Neverwinter after Mod16 (but still did occasionally), however when those go live, I'll most likely uninstall it entirely.

So basically to you no expansion ever gets a "new" class unless they invent one that is completely original?
