I'm not an IT Specialist, Game Developer, or Clairvoyant in real life, but like others on here, I play one on the internet.
I mean i'm happy for those that like BCC or may have missed BC, and i never thought Blizz would drop it right in the heat of BCC, but BCC is boring af to me, Been there Done That to death already and negative interest in that path ever again, same for Wrath. Classic yes cause i was playing EQ2 and skipped vanilla, so enjoyed the crap out of it with my son.
Talking to some peeps in raid the other night, some of them, well "they just started playing" bcc and enjoying it more than they thought they would, trying to encourage others to join them cause they were convinced 9.1 is months out as i was too, and now they'll be coming back to retail ofc get tuned up for raid.
I dunno we also talked about how classic is such a different feel as soon as it hit BC it was a different game, like it's its own game and or lost its identity when it went to BC, in that BC, Warth all they way up to 9.1 all feel like wow, well bbc wrath like an old wow ofc, but not classic it's got it own vibe and personality all its own. Which is awesome. But to retread bcc, meh, it never went away, i can fly there right now, i dunno just not into repeating the sh!t out of stuff i have already done to death.
Give me fresh hard af content, staring you down 9.1
Yep no fan of the time limit, and then toss it on Torgh, uggg, needs far more in depth lore content like heritage quests.
But raiding with a solid team... DAMN!!! Nothing else like it.

Every expansion that launches makes me stop playing earlier and earlier...

Never existed? Post-content patches have been a thing as long as I can remember in Everquest, let alone early WoW where things like Naxxramas were bonus raid tiers added to the game.
Now, I will agree with anyone that says post-launch content used to be more like small additions to an already complete expansion. Nowadays it seems like the express purpose of Timegating is to attempt to force people to log in every day, when it used to be personal grinding pace that did that.
New content absolutely exists in the post-launch patches...but it gets bogged down by stuff that either shouldn't be necessary (Increasing renown rewards and Torghast rewards to reduce timegating that shouldn't have even existed in the first place) or could have been included in smaller, individual builds (Class fixes/updates, bugfixes, and PvP adjustments).
That's sounds kinda chaotic. How do you manage playing two versions of the same game? It feels kinda weird and crazy to me. What I mean is I can't understand it, because I only like Vanilla and hate Retail so it's weird for me to see someone who enjoys both.
