Over at a certain paid by users mmo site that actually has content we had a mini joke going on how you may as well just emulate the switch at this point since you'll be able to rock 24 gigs of ram and a dedicated 4-6 gig card.
I for one am glad it's not an upgraded 4k model. The best part of consoles is their simplicity. Buy it once, get a reliable piece of hardware equal to everyone else who got one. Devs will optimize for it for an entire generation, and the console itself will last for longer than an entire generation (longer than any PC I've ever owned) unless you somehow fuck up and damage it.
Mid gen upgrades muddy the waters, get rid of one of the selling points of consoles, and make them more directly comparable to PCs. And consoles should NOT want to be more directly comparable to PCs.
It seems we are heading this direction though, with Xbox etc. now 'upgrading' their consoles more often. Honestly, at current price points, if my console had 100% keyboard & mouse for all titles combined with 100% support for that platform in my Steam library I'd never buy/build a PC again.
For me there are two reasons to get a Switch: Mario Cart and Super Smash Bros.
It's never been about the power of Nintendo's consoles, it's about their IP's and how they continually deliver great quality on those IP's. Loved Zelda back in the day too..maybe I should make that three reasons.

Kyleran on yours sincerely
'But there are many. You can play them entirely solo, and even offline. Also, you are wrong by default.'
Ikcin in response to yours sincerely debating whether or not single-player offline MMOs exist...
'This does not apply just to ED but SC or any other game. What they will get is Rebirth/X4, likely prettier but equally underwhelming and pointless.
It is incredibly difficult to design some meaningfull leg content that would fit a space ship game - simply because it is not a leg game.
It is just huge resource waste....'
Gdemami absolutely not being an armchair developer
It's crazy how effective the vuzu can be.
