Mark Jacobs now fighting with MOP staff

MightyUncleanMightyUnclean Member EpicPosts: 3,531
There's an ongoing argument between Mark Jacobs and some of the MOP staff in the comments to this article.  Jacobs.  Does.  Not.  Know.  When.  To.  Shut.  Up.  Talk about being your own worst enemy.

All the drama because they refused NOT to ask a question? Damn that man is dumb...

Not like they can force an answer, a simple  "I can not answer that question at this time" and done.

Turning a non issue into this...wow, can not draw a better picture of someone trying to hide crap than this.

Forgive me OP, but after reading all I can think things dont have to be like this.

Let's say city state made a CU token. The only way to preorder buy skins or whatever it is they are doing to crowned fund was done through the CU token.

There would be zero need to hypothesize. There would be a wallet for skins transactions one for preorders
One for the community, giveaways and such. One for dev salaries office space etc. Every. Single movement of that CU token would be recorded on chain.

The flow would be transparent. If you agree with the flow of funds you now have the knowledge to know what you're support and continue. If you dont you now have every reason to end support.

The sad thing is at this point in time we have no way of knowing if it's a scam or just mismanagement.

Kinda looks like MOP feels they're missing out on the drama pie + clicks that go along with it so tried to copy what we do here and failed just a lil bit..

They sorta made an issue of things that's common knowledge to anyone here and boring tbh... even MJ got bored with it and left lol

NO ONE can do what we do here... NO ONE.. the end.

Far as I can tell his issue was they insisted on reporting that he refused to answer the question and he didn't want them to mention it had even been asked.

Generally speaking, I think MJ's approach to interacting with fans and critics may have worked in the past, but nowadays, when the entire process of content creation is geared towards endless engagement, his approach is counterproductive; he's trying to put out fire with fuel.

    Not only the one question.
He refused to answer every question as long as this one particular question is within the catalogue.

As @Sandmanjw has written. A short "I will not comment on this one question" would have been enough for MOP.
Instead he went full teenager rebell mode and didn't answer anything.

Imho his reaction is only justifyable if his game is really far in development and a real burner which I doubt.

I bet he's is just cloaking the bad situation to not discourage new people from buying packages, same as Caspien did with the sales a few weeks before going bankrupt.

Who has given that game money in the last few years knowing everything we know about the game though... The optimism was high back in 2014-2015 when MJ was promising things like beta in 1 year but that was over 5 years ago...

When reading the back and forth between him and the MOP staff the staff actually admits later they were upset about him only giving bits of interviews so ran that piece which was pretty obviously done out of spite cause it meant absolutely nothing in the big picture of CU. Only thing that matters now for CU are actual hard dates and whether or not the game will actually be released... Everything else like refunds not being given and however terribly MJ conducts himself with the public is yesterday's news. The writers obviously made the decision to engage with him in their comments section when they could've done it in private like they usually do.. Their staff also started attacking one of the posters too... If anything the optics was terrible for MOP not MJ cause we already knew what MJ was and his lack of any real interest in his responses to MOP showed that he knew they were screwing themselves..

Massively has been garbage now for years. I don't even know why people read their garbage site. Most of their articles are like news stories from 3 days ago and a lot of boring click bait stuff. Their editor doesn't even play MMOs anymore. That site should have died when AOL shuttered it.

I wonder who is first to announce bankrupt/shutting down COE or CU?

I am pretty sure Jeremy did some fabricating/lying to get more of a loan than he should have, like timing of his loan application is everything.

So what i am getting at is COE is not bleeding money as fast as CU so imo Jeremy can hold on for a bit longer but not for long because COE and CU are NOT going to survive.

I don't know why Mr.Jacobs promised people their money back especially when he made that speech about not owing the backers anything, not a game nothing and even mentioned the term legally not owing anything.
You can say that these CF games truly are just scams because there is no promise or liability unless of course you do something dumb and promise refunds.

When we generally spend money on something we EXPECT to get something in return, aside from stupid gambling on lottery tickets. With these CF games you truly can and shoudl expect nothing because even 20-30 years ago many of these studios were NOT capable of staying on budget aka Chris Roberts but were fortunate in having big money investors to bail them out,to make sure the games got somewhat finished.

It is July,i think Mr.Jacobs has maybe until the beginning of 2022 then he needs to find some money or he is done.Oh and VERY few if any will get their refunds.I wouldn't even believe the few reddits we have seen because unless you know that person for fact, how do you know they really got a refund, just because they said so?

I should however also mention that people should realize that MJ is likely extremely stressed, extremely frustrated because i am sure he sees a sinking ship and he is the captain that goes down with the ship.
My point is that don't judge a person's character when they are under extreme duress,he might very well be a decent person in real life but struggling to run a business and taking a lot of insults and negative feedback i am sure is killing him.
Sure he asked for it in a way and imo he should have never started this but imo had people praising his past and coercing him into going for it.
It looks bad for MJ but don't hold this against him as his defining persona ,i am sure he is a different person away from gaming.

This is not new. Mark has always engaged with communities much more than any other developer I'm aware of.

This was also the case on the VN boards back in the DAoC days.

Maybe, he seems a bit more aggressive and paranoid these days, stressed out as his "engagement" is like this more often than not.

    So does everyone else lol.

Online discussions didn't have the same level of batshit-crazy back in those days, Maybe it was just a more homogenous and polite MMO playing crowd, IDK, but I'll go with that.

Well there was a death in the family not too long ago.

I'm sure the man has a lot on his plate and we are all only human.

I don't really care what he says on MOP. I'm all about show me the game. We need more than some concept art of fekkin rocks.

Come on guy that is way out there, this is no more than stress from seeing this project through. Though that stress does indicate the game is not on solid footing.

Does it? I think it makes more sense that the death in his family (as Nilden has already mentioned), the severe vaccination after-effects and the COVID working conditions have a much higher impact on his stress level. But of course this is pure speculation on my part.

This guy knew exactly what he was doing from the start. He took our money for this game knowing people would invest in what was in-spirit Daoc 2. He then did a bait and switch on us and turned it into us funding a new proprietary engine that he could market and cash in on forever. Meanwhile CU is all but a demo for that engine now. This game will never be in a rationally releasable state, I would bet my left arm on that. All red flags point to it. When you are deep into what you call a beta and still showing concept art and lighting effects as your developer highlights something is wrong.

They didn't reveal what the question actually was right?

I have no horse in this race but did feel a little bad for the dude in the clip where he was about to break down and cry when fearing people may never give him another chance.  Not bad enough to think he should be forgiven for his massive blunders but still.

Did I read that right they said Final Stand Ragnarok only brought in 6k?  Because if that's true that's a total disaster.  Wasn't he saying Ragnarok was going to help him release CU?
