Awesome article! I am absolutely ecstatic about the number of new players in our Free Company and in the remainder of the game as well. It's hard to keep up with all the questions in FC chat, but it's a wonderful experience just trying. They are bringing enthusiasm back to the game.

I've never played FF14, I used to play WoW, I've had friends that played FF14 & enjoyed it, & I find the whole story of FF14 fascinating & positive. The terrible launch, the type of recall for retooling & rebuilding, the slow but steady incline of players, a redemption story I think even before No Man's Sky's redemption story, & now a somewhat surge in FF14 players too.

I found this article and the last one a drawn out way of saying "please don't take credit for the population boost of this game if you came from WoW (or stream) & we're an amazing community who might need to adjust to WoW players" - neither good nor bad but could be one article. Great to see FFXIV get so much love, it's a beautiful game!

You are entitled to your wrong opinion on this, but anyways. If you think MMORPG could post an article that is a paid sponsorship without disclosing that information you are actually a complete moron. That is what some like to call illegal.

Trying to farm tomes, gets 3 leafs. Gives up and buys 515 crafted gear instead. Ques again later, gets 3 leafs. Still managed to finish all the 5.2, 5.3, 5.4, 5.5, 5.55 MSQ stuff. Still has 13 days left out of the free 14.

This isn't a signature, you just think it is.

I haven't played for maybe 3 years but I never found the FFXIV community to be particularly friendly at end game. Beyond the first day or two of a new patch if you didn't already know the fight in trials, dungeons and raids people got angry. And that is at the most basic auto-matching level, there was all kinds of elitist bs in party finder.

Kind of off topic but it is ridiculous that the community feels forced to expect other players to study fights on Youtube or Twitch before even experiencing it in game. I think ultimately that is a failure in game design though.

I can think of a bunch of ways game design could be used to teach people specific boss fight mechanics organically through overland encounters, npc dialogue or single player instances. Or design the non-hardmode encounters so they can't be failed but the better an individual player correctly avoids or handles the mechanics the better the loot they get.

The game is quite popular and spoken well of by many. There is no reason to assume the observations and opinions expressed in this article aren't genuine.

Great, let them drive the dump truck full of money right up to my apartment.

But otherwise, as a theme park game, it's an amazing theme park game.

I'm more than happy to say that while not getting paid but if they want to give me money for just stating the obvious then I welcome my new, flush, overlords.

Through liking a game alone, no. From your activities related to a game you like, such as streaming or providing content, maybe.

The reason I didn't touch FFXIV when it launched (all those years afterwards) was because to me it seemed like a more modern-looking WoW with not much difference.

    ...

I guess I was right, lol.

Just imagine if Rift didn't die 10 years ago and had active updates, most WoW players would've probably jump there. It's literally the same game.

Guess you haven't played FFXIV? The only things it really has in common with WoW are that they're both mmos that use a tab-target combat system, and you DO know that WoW didn't invent either of those I hope. On the other hand Rift was an actual WoW clone, except for the class system which was actually pretty good.

Rift had many differences from WoW actually, as does FFXIV which you would know if you had spent even a brief time playing it.

Have fun with all the WoW refugees. I suspect they will have a bigger impact on the community than the community will have on them. Hope I’m wrong.

Wow...FFXIV gear score, item levels is just real bad game design.
Segregating and gaiting is NOT good for gaming or community,it actually creates a toxic /elitism attitude.

Gaming within a mmorpg should be about fun,a relaxing happy place to hangout we shouldn't be questioning players gear scores. When i began playing FFXI you could play with level 1 starter gear well into level 30/40/50+ if you wanted to because the design was based on stats and abilities, buffs, debuffs and gear had VERY few stats.

Also seeing th idea of mentoring was one of the few positives in the genre because it allows ALL players to just join together to have fun without any worries.or gaiting or segregating.

WOW..FFXIV is NOT how i feel the genre should be catering to,i actually despise that type of design. It got so bad that even within FFXI i had to witnessed something cringe worthy, they allowed players to sport 3 stars over their head...LAME.LOOK AT ME i have 3 stars....just  sad real sad.

This is why i say the genre is stagnant and not even trying to do better instead the devs continue down this path of segregation, gaiting and elitism all toxic. We should be seeing better worlds, more interaction and combat based on abilities and racials NOT gear scores. All players SHOULD be able to get long and group with no elitism concerns.

We already had player levels and weapon skills to make sure we don't ever dumb down content,we didn't need to add gear scores/item levels to create more grind to keep people paying.
