New World has been trucking along since its closed beta hit Steam back on July 20th. Within a week the MMO has already seen over 200K players jump in at the same time, breaking that threshold on Sunday. This bodes pretty well for Amazon's MMO, and signals that this could end up being the studios' first successful game.

It's a little rough around the edges, which makes sense considering how they completely changed the focus of the game, but I'm still having a lot of fun playing it. There's a lot to learn and do. It'll keep me occupied for a while.

Finally there will be a MMORPG where the Steam numbers will actually be well representative of the total population, no need to second guess.

Well this is what happens when two MMOs launch so closely together the bigger one pulls the punters in. CF could always release later on Steam but even better would have been not launching close to NW, mind you NW is "beta" (not sure what they mean by that these days) so they maximise their footprint in terms of the amount of calendar days they are newly "launched".

For a beta, bearing in mind they bandy these words about today just for PR reasons, it seems rather advanced. The only issues I have seen that they can't sort in a couple of months lie with combat and quests from what posters have been saying.

Two? I think there were at least 3 if we count SOLO plus a FFXIV expansion only a month after the latest ESO exp.

Oh yes, can't overlook all the "exciting" news coming from the Blockchain space lately.

Heck, I'll bet even SC's streaming numbers have seen a downturn.

Oh yes, and CU put out more "information" on whatever it is they are trying to build over there.   :D

There's a lot going on this summer so not surprising they are having some difficulty being noticed.

Oh, I guess some people even go outside more this time a year, not me though, too darn hot, best time to stay in and game.

    Cheers

Wait, how could I forget, was also the alpha one "release" (using the term very loosely) of the much anticipated Kingdoms of Elyria...a major draw down for sure.

Beta or not, damn good numbers. The interest is there.

Could it be that AGS will finally succeed at a game?

It's theirs to fail, certainly has very strong interest ATM.

I’ve been playing since day 1 of CBT and overall, i think it’s just alright. You definitely need to be part of big guilds for end game content, which suck for casuals. The crafting/gathering is cool but get bored real fast.

Crowfall has way bigger problems than release timing. They couldn't give beta keys away. They had 200 people in open beta. Release saw 3 to 4k.

Ready for start. Still lots of things to do but fingerscrossed. Start an AAA is never easy, many negative trolls. Game far not perfect but I never seen a perfect game. They listen for players so hopefully keep up their hard work. Genre needs a new long term AAA mmo. you guys really put east trash solo on same level with new world? lol.

Crowfall should have launched onto Steam. It likely would have helped them immensely.

The game might be good for the q-anon rejects. The story just ends up being lackluster History Channel Ancient Aliens bs. You can even get a space helmet. rofl https://newworld.fandom.com/wiki/Syndicate?file=D2queenscourt.png

Don't know why that's uploaded to a New World wiki, but that is a screen shot from Destiny 2.

You can tell by the way the graphical style is completely different. Also, the name of the image being D2queensport.png is a pretty big giveaway.

Are you serious? Well fuck me and my gullibility. Okay, no space helmet then. The Ancient Alien thing is real though. One of the main storylines you get from Harlon.

I follow activity on Twitch as a guideline to tell me if this is just another honeymoon phase over hyped game or weather people truly KNEW before purchasing what they were getting in to.

So if a game bounces in right at the top it might be legit or just marketing hype and bandwagon jumpers and only time will tell.Of course a LOT of influence on new games sales of late have been popular streamers as influencers.

So the game came in at #2 which is quite incredible only suprassed by just chatting, yeah i know sad that just chatting is often 1/2/3 because it is the drama and soft porn hangout.

Anyhow right now TNW is in at #6 still not bad considering the usual suspects at the top are sending it down the charts.
Most overrated over hyped games fall off fast, streamers no longer care to stream it and players begin to get bored.Still it came in at 2 and already down to 6 tells me this will be same old in another couple weeks maybe falling right off the top row of 10.
My impression having popped in to several random streams is that people are for the msot part playing VERY boring content "quests".
IMO just vee lining quest after quest with no care for anything around you is not good gaming.I actually am seeing players completely IGNORE mobs because all they care about is that quest spawn. To me that is very shallow minded gaming.

It actually reminded me of a quote about the buses, you wait ages for a Western MMORPG then two come along at once. I guess CU and SC will launch together in three years time as well, crazy. :)

This is fantastic because this means the shift they made to make PvP totally optional was the right decision. Take note other developers.

I don't agree with this, we need diverse gameplay in MMOs not all one template, plus by making the change to questing so late the quests apparently "need a bit more work" surprise surprise. The way the game was originally I would not have played it myself, but that does not matter, we need variety in the gaming industry, otherwise it stagnates.

Ironically one of the key additions to the game this past year is making a zone's fort an open world PVP, on demand, fight with forts that can change hands or be contested several times a day in the beta. So they are indeed developing the PvP as well.

The PvE buffs a zone has for players of the faction that controls the zone and the faction that controls the fort (they can be different) are very significant also with increase to XP gain, gathering speed and amount, trading and crafting taxes, etc. You need PvPers to do that and everyone benefits from it.

So it shows not just that optional PvP is good but that it also does not need to kill PvP when it's incentivized properly.

They're gong for a mix with both being viable and interdependent (PvE Town Board quests help the settlement level up which also helps PvPers defend their territory better) and both types of play seem to be popular and coexists very nicely so far - much better than last year when PvPers had very little to do.

That is it making it totally viable for the PvE players to play with an option and allowing certain areas to be open PvP is absolutely the way to go. I totally support open PvP in areas in a game just not the whole game. This is why developers should completely follow this model. It will encourage more PvEers to check out these games. Kudos to Amazon.

I agree that you should have diverse gameplay and you can but you should not push the PvE players away either. Have certain areas with open PvP just make sure for the rest of the game it is optional is the best way to have both types of players and increasing the popularity of the game.

Instead of dooming your game by making the whole game open PvP make a few parts of the game open PvP so that your game can earn money and develop further and not cater to a small audience that will eventually just starve you out of the gamespace.

Well at least I think you are joking there, what they have done seems a bit "best fit" after they radically changed what the PvP was going to be like. I agree with Kitarad that the two need to be kept sperate it is just how you do it. I prefer a RVR DAOC approach, but there was no way they could make such a drastic change to the game after pulling back from open world PvP. What they have come up with as a solution has been done before, but I have always found it a bit creaky where I have played similar systems.
