This is the right decision. As much as I want to play this game again, it isn't quite ready. One hope is more dungeons and getting rid of the keying requirement which is really weird to have for low level dungeons.
So do you think they knew it wasnt ready and if so why were they pushing "pre-order" to get beta access?
Maybe the dreadful char creator may get some love. Its no where near triple A quality.
I agree that it isn't up to par. However, I don't think it will change anytime soon, maybe later down the road.
May seem like a low priority for some but their char creator is lacking in two ways. One options, making RPers unhappy they cant RP the char they envision. 2nd area is much worse. Inclusiveness. Sure you can make your char have many different skin tones but the face options were mostly white in nature. Also body types were all standard white frames. My Jamaican wife can not make a char in any way, from face to body share look like her. I get head placements need to stay where they are for combat but there is needs to be more options that skinny frames only. Its down right sad for 2021. We have the tech.
Not gonna happen. They have various ethnicity skin tones and hair styles. Limiting body shape and size limits having to do all that extra working on rigging and animation, on armor stretching and fitting and clipping for large frame characters, it also means reworking hit boxes which if they didn't would give large characters advantages, and a multitude of other things that there is no point to since only a minuscule will ever even care. It has nothing to do with being 2021 and everything about cost vs benefit assessment proving its not worth it.
I'm in my 60's and been gaming for over 30 years. I was in Beta with my wife and 3 other gamer friends. In light of whats been happening in the U.S. the past 1.5 years, THIS was the only thing we were looking forward to. We all spent over 70 hours in Beta and had a blast! After all the other delays we were SO excited about starting this new game in 27 days.
While playing in Beta and learning everything we could, none of us found anything bad except for a little lag at times.
Now, ANOTHER delay??????? This is #4 over a year! So, ALL of us are done. Our excitement is completely shattered. Yesterday I was approved for 3 days of PTO at game start. THIS was my vacation for over a year and now it's gone. Going to cancel my time off, forget this ever existed and move on to another game expansion coming out later this month. We are ALL moving on. WAY too many disappointments from Amazon. Waiting over 1.5 years and not THIS?
NOT acceptable, especially when it was fun and playable during Beta. We all expected for them to launch earlier than the 31st because it was so good.
That's what we get for getting excited for something new! Lesson learned for all of us.
Oh, and we're ALL going to request refunds due to the fact that we were all misled. We pre ordered on the promise that it was being released on August 31 as advertised. Not cool Amazon! Not cool at all!
If you've been gaming for 30 years you'd think you'd have gotten a little more used to release dates being delayed. I get you requested time off but, again if you've been gaming 30 years, you would think you would know you never request time off the day of launch because its terrible lol. And if you're giving up on a game because it pushed back 30 days then were you ever really a fan of it that you can't wait 30 days more for the ONLY thing you were looking forward to doing? Also if you were playing games for 30 years you'd remember what Alpha and Beta actually meant. They were designed for a company to test and LEARN what flaws there were in the game's systems not just for a preview for potential customers. You'd think you'd be happy a company was more intent on delivering quality by fixing problems it learned about this BETA instead of pulling a Crowfall and just pushing shit out the door to meet a date.
This is the right decision. As much as I want to play this game again, it isn't quite ready. One hope is more dungeons and getting rid of the keying requirement which is really weird to have for low level dungeons.

The question about not having a wide open beta as used to be the case near release for MMOs 10 years ago is a good one. Access to alphas and betas because you bought it has gradually become the norm and become a kind of gamer entitlement thing with some people getting downright hostile when "freeloaders" are allowed into betas.
Having said that, Amazon's "pushing" is very different from the industry norm. For one thing anyone who has pre-ordered from Amazon has not been charged and won't be until the game releases. You can cancel that pre-order hassle free right up to the day before launch.
Even if you buy through Steam, where they do charge you immediately, canceling the pre-order there is also hassle free although Steam being Steam they will try to talk you into a refund to your Steam Wallet instead of a true refund.
At any rate, "pushing pre-orders" is not worth fretting about in this case.
Side note...
A couple of months ago I made a post here on a thread explaining how you could pre-order, check out the beta for its full duration and cancel after that if you wanted to, and some random poster referred to doing that as sleazy and someone else agreed with him. See what I mean about beta entitled gamers?

they are making the game, so yes... i'm sure they knew it wasn't ready. And just like most games that sell beta access, Bezos got a piece of that pie too.

I hear you but I was in the alpha up until this "beta" I had a prime yearly sub that ran out close to the start of this "beta"
This is a game that needs months and months of more development time to release as a great product.
One month delay won't do much to fix everything that's wrong with it and some of it (quests for example) just comes down to fundamental design that can take a really long time to change/be reworked.
Agreed. Honestly to me, a one month delay on a game that has already been delayed countless times is a bad sign. This does not necessarily mean the game will be bad, it just means that they really need to work on their project management if they want it to be successful in the long term. Also 1 month won't do much so don't expect miracles in terms of design, content, or qol. I wouldn't even expect a smooth launch or performance improvements either.
Only issue I have is that it's now launching on my Anniversary and I will miss the first week of launch.
ARRRRRRRGHHHHHH...
Maybe she'll agree to postpone?
Amazon has spoken. Time for a new wife. Maybe you can get one sent from Amazon? Probably with free overnight shipping too!
Maybe they will even take the old used one back for a trade-in ?
I do so love it when guys give other guys "relationship advice" on having a girlfriend or wife in their world of gaming. We should all be marriage counsellors clearly.
The game is delayed, it will have a better launch, it's as simple as that.
It was to be expected. Amazon got hit where it hurts the most, on the pocket, due to 50% of player base refunding (unofficial number). They are hoping to get us back by delaying more. We shall see. The game is flawed in its core and better char creation (holy crap its the worst I have ever seen for a wannabe AAA game) or more quests (yawn, booring repetitive zero imagination stuff) will not get anyone back. On top of it the 10% hardcore pvp (lol) crowd is very vocal again requesting more blood with zero constructive ideas on how to do it.
Lets face it. NW is just an attempt to get a piece of the already existing cake. It offers nothing new nor does it look like it will have replay and long term value. The release is their ONLY chance to grab some money as this is the only novelty moment they have. Its do or die for them to get it right, hence the delay (again and again and I think it will be delayed again).
On the bright side there are games that have actually released lately and are very playable as opposed to NW (not naming any as this is a NW thread only).
No fate but what we make, so make me a ham sandwich please.
Only issue I have is that it's now launching on my Anniversary and I will miss the first week of launch.

Err, if you all were really having a great time one more month of delay shouldn't be enough to deter you from playing altogether.
Take those three days of PTO and go out into the real world to do something you've never tried before, I dunno, maybe base jumping or rent a submursible.
You probably just would have been stuck in long queues or dealing with broken servers anyways.

I doubt they delayed to do any real changes to the game. More likely, they found a memory leak in the client, or the server. Or the database was getting corrupted, or the network code had a bug in it.
I expect that the game when it releases will be just like what we played in beta. A month isn't enough time to do anything big, or new, or to change how a system works.

Fixing a bug doesn't take that much time. A large dev team might need two months if the game was chocked full of bugs, but New World was already relatively bug free.
Whereas the game had a large list of adjustments that the players clearly wanted: Something to prevent one group from controlling whole map, weapon balance fixes, better rewards from healing (at least in PvP), sharing quests, fixes for quest mob availability causing bottlenecks during initial player rush, etc.
To me it looks like this delay will allow them to make a lot of those adjustments and eventually launch a bit better game.

I think that during beta they discovered a few issues that need resolving.
As far as beta goes, they have to gate it. If it’s wide open the game will be flooded and the game like any game will run like shit. Everyone ‘would’ be talking about how much of a failure the game is because of it.
This is one of those modern-day, pseudo-mmo's that is really just one of those survival craft BR's. The questing is borderline non-existent. Literally nothing but brainless collect x/kill x chores. The entire map feels like the same zone aesthetically. Boring and meaningless gear. Cookie-cutter and vanilla "me too" combat. Just let the MMO genre die already, y'all are doing it zero favors.
Someone never made it off the beach.
LOL I DID, as if this game is at all challenging...

They can have all sorts of problems now, only when they launch will they be given a scored review. We and the gaming industry put too much store in those scores but it is what it is as they say. If you want a higher score, put the game back a bit and fix some issues, as long as you can afford to do that it is the sensible choice.

Feedback I heard is the game has serious bugs persisting from previous tests, alpha and closed beta.
Well, if you read it on the internet, it has to be true.
Nope. From reviews. News outlets and youtube.
Change your sources.
My guess is all of his sources are actually on the internet too, unless CBS nightly news added game coverage recently.
Ever since the delay was announced, there have been at least 20 links to videos on the New World reddit that are just a picture of the tweet with a streamer wannabe reading it lol. Those silly self promoting videos are getting downvoted into oblivion but new ones appear every day.
It's the new way of shit-posting.
If you have a shitpost to make or a shitty opinion do it in a video because to some, then it's real.
And for the record the game had far fewer bugs than any MMO I've ever seen weeks from release or even compared to most releases. There are bugs and there will always be bugs but it's relatively robust by MMORPG release standards.
That's my personal hands-on opinion saying it with words on a screen It's neither a video about it nor a post about having not played it but watched many videos which apparently carries more weight these days. Just ask Wizardry, it's how he became an expert on everything.
