imageNew World Preps Players In New Legends Trailer Ahead Of Next Week's Beta | MMORPG.com

New World is hitting its open beta next week, and the team at Amazon Game Studios has released the second of its three-part Legends series on YouTube today. The trailer itself isn't much in the way of new information, but instead feels like the typical marketing trailer you would get leading up to a game launch, but it's still a cool one to check out.

Story still seems vague and that video explains nothing. Not that I really care since it was still fun to play even as just a sandbox, but hopefully over time they flesh out the story a bit more.

Honestly it's hard to be salty when it comes to this game after years of having so many Eastern sandbox games like Bless Unleashed and Archage Unchained dumped on us with stories that make no sense.

I still like FFXIV and Lost Ark as themepark MMOs, but this will be my new preferred sandbox MMO.

I would rather hear about world bosses and dynamic events being added to the game.

I'd rather them delay the game and have an open beta for 6 months while adding content ,balancing, fixing the bugs and letting us test the parts of the game they haven't shown yet. The most fun aspect of the game was gathering resources in the world.....that does not bode well for a "pvp heavy" game.

My concern is that because of that players may be overlooking long term issues, it is so rare we get a Western AAA players are overjoyed. The bolt on nature of the questing and last minute changed PvP system is a particular concern but the overall good reception and the fact Amazon will no doubt stand by the title ensures its long term success.

The video explains nothing because the lore has hardly been developed, partly that's down to the sudden decision to add PvE but it is the norm for MMOs these days, story barely registers they are MMOs not MMORPG's.

I thought it was a new world to discover, how has the world/factions been at war for "Eternity" or what ever word they used at the start???

"Hero's arise" Again, I thought they washed up on a beach in a new land?

Just sounds like they are trying to get some hype going.

They can't have been at war for eternity some factions just got there didn't they? I think modern MMOs have lost the idea that you need to keep lore under a strict reign, preferably one writer has the final say. But today's MMOs think anybody can just chip in, I remember one MMORPG writer doing an article on here ten (?) years ago where she said MMO quests are now being written by anybody in the studio including the tea boy. That's why story has become an unintelligible mess, you have to take it seriously.

For a game which "unexpectedly" had to delay by a month I find it interesting they keep churning out more marketing videos in the interim.

Almost as if they had them planned for some time, perhaps the delay wasn't so unexpected after all.

I wish I could get excited for the game, but I can't. This game at it's core is PVP focused. Adding PVE to get that crowd into the game isn't going to change that unless they give you the ability to opt out of PVP altogether.

PVE feels like it was added the last minute (it was) and it shows. The crowd who doesn't like PVP won't stay. It remains to be seen how well it keeps players once it's released.

I'm hoping it does well for Amazon's sake. Their track record on games isn't exactly stellar.

I for one am excited to pop one of my capacitors like the rest of the mmo community.

All joking aside. It's amazon, don't be excited too long. This is going to get bricked.
    Amazon. Amazon.

They have the track record of a meth head not stealing your jordans and then helping you find em because "they need to help you".

I mean this is the same company that had a budget lex luthor with zero of the smarts.

The same company that produces all those wonderful amazon original shows no one watches.

The same company that allows people like us to self publish.

Great purchasing platform though. Literally cannot use anything else now.

It's because they know we're inherently stupid for the next fix so they are going to hype their Grandpappy Pinapple xpress OGkush cocaine.

Meanwhile it's cut with like 90% pain thinner.

If they had to delay for whatever reason for ten months it is reasonable to assume they would decide to make more marketing videos to keep people thinking about the game.

Does the video show how the game is really like for PVE? Ya know, soloing world bosses and glitching dungeon bosses so easily that you dont need anyone in the dungeon with you?

From what ive seen, the PVE is a complete joke. They didn't even try. Will this delay even do anything for it? Somehow i doubt it.

These are likely being made by a team that isn't really needed right now to dev the game. That team probably takes a week to get the cinematic ready to be rendered out into a video.

That's a non-argument these days given the most popular online games are PvP ones. Fortnite, LoL, Apex legends, Valorant, CoD: Warzone etc.

There however is thin line between fun and punishment. The pvp in EVE Online is more akin to punishment because you can be caught pants down. What's worse, if you miss vital skills you can't even avenge yourself. So all you are left with is put up or leave. Most people leave.

But if the PvP system had 5 brain cells in it, it would allow a lower level player to beat the shit of a higher level retard. Mind you, most PvP players are higher level retards with very few exceptions. This is, maybe the main reason they don't like things like upscaling/downscaling. "Hurr durr I lose my statistical advantage over this noob over there who keeps on beating the living shit out of me with regular gear"

See, most PvP players are fucking clowns. That's why MMO arenas are usually empty or they need to be heavily incentivized for people to go there. Balanced PvP? Fuck outta here. - most players who claim to be pvpers.

Back to the topic, New World allows people of all levels to shit on others given they know the game. Of course nothing saves you from the gankers, but it's a MMO I guess, get friends, get company. The combat system is brilliant. It's simple enough to put everyone on the same bar more or less yet it's deep enough to allow for some wiggle room for good players without feeling like cheating.

Kinda like when you play first person shooters and you just outaim the living fuck out of everyone else.

Most likely they had a plan to release more marketing videos before and after the launch date which isn't really related to the release itself.

Fair enough, that's not eternal but within the bounds of "poetic license"; though I have to agree with Krox the lore/background videos are full of grandiose statements and little information if any. I am starting to think the working principle for a modern MMO is "say as little as possible about the lore, that way no matter what the devs come up with we can write around it".

    No poetic license needed,

They didn't say eternal they said eons, They used the word eternity later on in the context of what's happening to people on the island where they are eternal through constant death and rebirth.

The point I was trying to make is that people following this game casually think it's about European conquistador types discovering this island for the first time and that's not the case at all. The game does take place in an alternate 16th century so the players ARE presumably from that time period but that's not the beginning of the weirdness happening there. It has been visited by and corrupted those visitors for thousands of years - hence the hyperbolic "eons."

I already worked out it was not meant to be that historically accurate but allegorical of the Spanish conquistadors, so when do I get to play a Roman washed up on a beach? Quo Vardis? :)
