Getting the character names you want at launch is a time-honored tradition in MMORPGs. New World's launch tomorrow will be no exception. The team has confirmed that all names are global and account locked once claimed.

    From what I read it like this names are global across all servers.

    If you get a name then delete the character to reuse the name on another server you need to wait about 1 minute to be able to use the name/create the new character with that name.

    The name once deleted stays locked to your account for like 90 days. it's kind of stupid they should have used a two name system with the option that the last name is not visible so there's no "that name is already taken BS".

    Launches are drama enough for any new MMO, global names have needlessly ramped up that drama.

    There only one EU server region so you can have one character there thus one name.

    NA has two regional cluster NA east and NA west so you can make 1 character in each cluster.

    I've read some speculation that folks think that it could be the pre-cursor to an eventual LFG system, or server merge situation, where it's easier to do this, than to have someone have to rename their character. Obviously no comment from Amazon, so it's 100% guesswork. 

    I suppose that suggestion isn't horribly far fetched, (but I'd still have thought that any contraction, or LFG would be by server cluster, but I'm wrong quite often...so....)

    Short version, could be part of some down the road features that they have intention of implementing. Lol, and I guess I'd rather think that's it, than they are creating the drama needlessly!

    Yeah, I think it's 1 per server cluster and 2 total per region.



    It's supposed to reserve the name for 90 days so you can make/delete.. rinse/repeat

    Lol the EU servers should be a disaster tonite as the entire gaming world trys to log into them and grab names ..

    Actually the way they do it you get the part on the ship where you create your character as a separate thing before any queueing. The actual server queue happens after the tutorial and you don't need to do that to get your name. You can quit before you get to the starter beach.

    I bet lots will carry on though and hammer the servers but there's no need to join the queue.
