After yesterday's major update, performance and stability issues caused the Amazon team to take down New World's servers to fix to address these issues. They also addressed some player frustrations regarding updates.

PTR as a hype server? WTF even is that? I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that people who said this are either trolls, or really new to MMOs. Test servers in MMOs have always been a way to test new content and features out, no mater what the MMO.

Yup, it was definitely a hype server. Put out as a token offering with a series of pretty drastic changes that would have been difficult if not impossible to test without some heavy duty effort by testers... and about 3 more weeks for that effort to materialize. Then Amazon rushed that out to live. The changes were pretty brutal on some fronts, too. My wife and I (level 60 tank and healer) had been able to duo our way through a specific level 50 elite area in NE Mourningdale on Wednesday. One of our other quests gave us an objective back in that area Thursday so we headed back over and proceeded to get our asses handed to us repeatedly. I couldn't find anything about that in the patch notes. Also, the Void Gauntlet is pretty MEH. It is a pretty new toy right now but it just doesn't provide the DPS, healing, or even enough utility to justify it for any content that might provide a challenge. This sucks since the Life Staff got such a heavy nerf as Amazon wants to force heal builds with heavy armor to go away. "Play the game OUR way" is basically what they are saying.

Unfortunately, WoW has used their PTR as a way to draw hype for updates, so its not really uncommon. In regards to AGS, it kind of feels that way given how many issues the patch already has going live. Of course, issues always happen regardless of how long you test something, but they've been dealing with this kind of 'rushed development' from the start, so delaying the patch a month to get some more testing done (especially to see if it caused more issues) would've been the better play in the public eye.

The void gauntlet is definitely meh if you think of it as a damaging secondary for the life staff which is what most of us expected it to be when we first heard it scales off focus and Int. It isn't that at all though.

What it turned out to be is a healer hybrid secondary that is more suited as a second weapon for those who stack Int and main fire staff or ice gauntlet for damage. Used that way it provides quite a bit of self-healing when specced right and using the ultimate on the left side, voidcaller. But even for an Int main trying to use it for self heals it kind of sucks since all the healing parts of the weapon scale off focus, not Int and not both,

It sucks for us healer mains that we can still do way more damage when soloing with a hatchet or great axe. The extra self healing when you go life/void is kind of redundant anyway and it only has one, very awkward skill, that does a piddly amount of healing to others, the orb.

    Meh indeed.

Also a one week PTR that was mostly devoid of players once they checked out the new weapon was nowhere near enough time before going live with all the changes.

ESO does a 2 month PTR cycle and even then something big is usually screwed up when they go live due to the vastly larger scale of a live game compared to even the best attended PTRs.

You'll actually get it back "with interest" They're going to give you a full set of whatever your highest tier gathering set was with the gear score maxed for that tier.

AGS decide to add ninja nerf elite chest and buff elite mobs, making it's useless for small party to do elite chest run. and the worst thing is that they didnt add this change in PTR, because they are afraid of backlash from its players.

New World is on a downward spiral with fans and quality. Each bugfix adds new problems, often serious problems. The reputation of the game studio shrinks days by day. I wonder how long their bosses at Amazon care to watch...

This game has some really good things going, but when a patch like this hits, I am reminded that the game feels like the foundation is shallow, the execution is volatile, and the vision lacking.

I am enjoying the ambience and the crafting system. Though on a dead server, with a dead economic, the game is not showing all it's possibilities.

I understood that the crafting progression nerf, as something was needed, to try to remedy the broken economic. But the price payed, in diverting player in those who have leveled and those who don't have, is harsh and really demotivating.

Trying to fix a zerg chest hunting problem, but hitting small groups enjoying the game even more, is not just an example on how hard the gearscore-watermark system is to deal with for the developers, but also an indicator on a lack of direction, or inability to execute.

This is concerning, but actual not surprising, when considering the rushed launch of this game.

I don't think they know the difference between "fine tuning", which was necessary, and broad changes that ruins not only max level areas, but many quests for much lower level areas. I'm a decently geared 60, it took me 15+ minutes to down a level 45 elite named in Weaver's Fen for a faction quest which I did because I was passing by. And that doesn't include the time wasted because the first time, he just reset for no good reason. I just imagine it would take a small group of level 40s, for which that quest was intended, like 30+ minutes if not more, if they even manage to do it.

Someone utterly retarded guy (another one) at AGS though it would be a good idea to anger another part of their remaining player base.

Let's see how they recover from that one... because I never saw such a shitstorm on an official forum in a long, long time.

I know some may think I am being pedantic, but it would be useful if the article had told us that PTR refers to Public Test Realm/Server, I am sure there are players in MMOs who don't even realise MMOs use them.

I have to say all these problems are to me expected and I don't see things calming down for another few months, but they will pull through which is the main thing.

Their PTR concept is a bit weird... they are leaving out changes that could anger people.
The whole elite buff and chest nerf wasn't on the PTR.

And I've just leaned John Smedley was one of the guys in charge now there. I'm starting to be less and less surprised at the turn of events. That's the guy who ruined Star Wars Galaxies.

Fresh from his latest failure Hero Song, he comes with a lot of baggage as they say. But he is working on a new project so unless that changes NW is safe.

It was on the PTR but the PTR was dead after the first couple of days. Most people went there to check out the void gauntlet and left. There just wasn't enough elite farming in it for that change to have become well known.

I can't emphasize enough how weird it seemed to me that they had a 1 week PTR that didn't even have patches done to it before it went live. When the PTR started I assumed the void gauntlet and all of those changes would be thoroughly tested and we'd see that version live in a month or longer. One week was a joke.

The testing "T" in PTR should more properly have been a "P" for preview. It was a PPR not a PTR.

This post PTR version of the game is just weird. The balance changes on top of the elite buffs and elite drop nerfs are drastic sweeping changes. I find it almost unplayable with light armor and any kind of magic weapon even when soloing. It's just wear heavy everywhere equip melee weapons or quickly die.

the article has the following quote:
“the PTR is a super important opportunity for us to collect feedback and fug reports."

was the typo one of their bugs? does it mean "f'd up game"?

They remind me of Mythic with Dark Age of Camelot.

Patch 1 - Buff class (too much)

Patch 2 - Nerf class into oblivion (like you fall on your own sword and die level of bad)

Patch 3 - Bring class back to the state prior to Patch 1

Patch 4 - Slightly buff class

Rinse and repeat every few months.

To be honest, Blizzard have done that too. Many times.

I agree with your points on the PTR but disagree about the VG. It's an absolute monster paired with Life Staff. The heals when stacking Focus are actually decent, Orb of Decay if used right can do quite a lot and that's not including the debuff it brings or the burst heal when popping the orb, pair this with Void Blade, Oblivion and Voidcaller and you've got a beast.

over all I am disappointed in amazon new world there is a lot of old been there, done that. its stale and predictable and is not social friendly. I love their resource gathering dot cone but then there's the boring zombie grind and ever run, even weather is crude. wild animals have little diversity. its like these developers have never seen a tv, movie or read a book.
I suggested public works projects like a big bridge or road, I have no connection to people or towns they are the devs or the pvpers town.
they need some mysteries like UFO or mysterious creatures plants, infinitely more to discover. now ive played in several alphas and beta but I am worried the newness by people that have half a brain will get bored in a few month of course there are some that like revolving door hack and slash.
I see it as a one star game from a five star company it is so far below expectations it seems almost an intentional failure. they have a really bad habit of thinking more armor or hit points or damage dealing make mobs funnier it usually doesn't it just makes it more boring and frustrating. I use to occasionally join up or go after corruption.. now they are all fracking elites! and now to do level 25 you have to be 30-40 makes that are entertaining and immersive! add in some more climbing and crawling tight ropes, ladders, swing ropes. I like to cook but you went out of your way to make that unfun and even tents have been nurfed to death. you could make it so that a group of tents makes a mini town with crafting ability even special crafting. im still waiting for a tribal faction and tribal clothes and even a tribal tent.

make a world, not a game, we dont want another game.

I thought it was hilarious that they had a GIGANTIC list of changes on the PTR for a whopping week before releasing it. They didn't do enough testing or gather enough feedback to push out such a big update, and it shows.

Magic Weapons got nerfed to the ground. They tried to balance the healing staff for PVP and while they did, they greatly hurt it for PVE as well, making already difficult expeditions (dungeons) harder to complete because of reduced healing to tanks.

Great Axe and Stun Hammer builds got buffed to the point of the only weapons you can realistically play in PVP. Bow got changed to being the worst, most clunky weapon ever.

They didn't actually fix the bugs that are plaguing us like how the chat breaks when you enter an expedition, or how your Fast Travel locations get wiped every few days and you can't travel anywhere.

Their priorities are all wrong and it's infuriating to the point that I've had to step away from the game for sake of my mental health.
