107.5 K online ATM, probably peaking out for a weekday.
118k now on steam. The other site is always lagging a bit behind for real time data. And still increasing. And this is a normal week day, I expect more during the week end, not to mention school holidays start in Europe.
Think it makes sense. There's a lot to do suddenly, I feel. I am getting used to the idea of the Gypsum system, even though I feel a little cranky about such radical changes so quickly after launch.
This update is great, I really like both the winter event and the new gypsum system. OPR that was dead in my low pop server for weeks started popping again with this update. Also, just read that my server will be merged into others so this game will feel like an MMO again instead of co-op
Agreed. They did a great job with the winter festival and the gypsum system is an improvement on the gear grind.
My server got lucky and we'll be the one others merge into so we get to keep our territory, Ebonscale.

I don't think I was alone in saying once the dlc start coming in the players will come back it seems the WCF is enough to do that. When they do a proper dlc next year many more will come back. I think in the long run NW will be seen like FFXIV, they need time to give it a big overhaul except they will not have to give it such a big overhaul as FFXIV had.

Agreed, the Winter Event is just one of the best I've had the pleasure to take part of in a MMORPG, and the gypsum system is a major improvement since it permits many different activities to improve your gear at your own speed instead of the dumb forced chest/elite farming.
And don't forget to claim your limited time items in the store.
PS: This is just AWESOME !

Don't suppose you are the same The Korrigan that used to post on the VNBoards all the time back in the day?
I think it's a good shot in the arm. It won't fix everything and bring it up to 'great status', but it's fun and the key is steady improvement not huge 'This is the one' updates. Can't wait to log on today.
I will say, on a purely non important suggestion for the devs is to add more armor types. There aren't a lot of different looks (I'm not talking cash shop, although they need more also).
They just posted an update and it looks like the mergers will happen over the next couple of days:
We are planning to merge worlds in Central Europe, US-East, US-West, and Australia and will be holding downtime to support them. Please see below for the downtimes for each region.
Central Europe: Today 5:00 PM US East: Tomorrow 9:00 AM US West: Tomorrow 9:00 AM Australia: Tomorrow 9:00 AM
Times are in your local timezone.
We will provide a list of worlds being merged in a future post. We will link the post here once it’s up.

Yeah they didn't communicate it very well. The only thing that is happening today apparently is the pre-merge notice to worlds that will be dissolving and their transfer lock.
The latest blog post doesn't even specify which worlds will be the receiving world although you can sort of figure it out since one or two worlds in each grouping are not mentioned in the 1 hour downtime notice.
I'm guessing the actual merges happen Monday or Tuesday since they're supposed to have a 3 day notice period before the merge.
EDIT: they just updated the post adding the names of the receiving servers and I guessed right, Ferri is the receiving server for our grouping so we keep our territories... lucky us lol.

Pretty fun, this new winter update and the update to the gear progression. I was pretty skeptical of the gypsum system when I first read about it because it felt exhausting just thinking about all the different ways that I had to obtain it to upgrade my watermark.
In practice, so far, I'm just doing whatever I feel like in the game (mostly crafting, gathering, dungeons, and the occasional chest or portal run). In doing those things, I'm passively getting gypsum and occasionally upgrading my watermark as a result. Feels kind of nice, just like a bonus to the regular way of getting upgrades, so in that way it works pretty well.
All in all, quite positive so far. Maybe they can actually turn it around.

It was a very good move to add diamond gypsum to the event with a guaranteed 3 per day from the town trees. That's enough for one orb and an expertise bump and item to the slot of your choice. Good way to introduce the system.

Hah! Yeah I was thinking the same thing just now. It gave everyone a quick and easy path into the system. Gateway drug.
I know alot of people were done with this game 2-4 weeks after launch....Does adding things now really bring them back? I know once I am done with a game, I rarely go back, if ever.
The idea mergers are going slower just makes me think they have their heads screwed on. We have seen too much "something must be done" and not enough "take your time and get it right".

I bought ESO at release, played only a couple of weeks before stopping... and I came back after the "One Tamriel" patch which turned it into one of the best MMORPGs I had the pleasure to play.

Interesting. That definitely hasn't been my experience. Two games in particular - GW2 and ESO - both of them I played at release to max level, got quickly bored with the existing endgame, and put them down for a couple years apiece.
Both games I came back to on their first expansion and played them for years.
My view is that MMO developers can do their best to design a game and all of its systems, but no amount of focus testing and betas teaches them how players will really plow through their content, what content works, and what doesn't.
As far as New World goes, I find much to enjoy, even now. I don't know what their future content schedule is like, but it sure has turned a corner with the gypsum system.
On the plus side, a delay may mean "we found a problem and want to fix it first" - which would be an improvement in their process.
Which delay is this?
There was a communication/interpretation error about what was happening Friday. It was worded in such a way that it seemed like the mergers themselves were happening on Friday but what it actually meant is that the pre-merger 3 day warning was being added as a log-in banner for any players who would be merging and their ability to transfer servers was locked out for those 3 days. That happened... on Friday.
All the worlds merging are still scheduled to merge tomorrow, Monday, as was always the intent.

This update is not enough to bring me back. I have the game already so might check back in a year or so. But right now I just watch from the side line.

Yeah, same here, only took me 7 years to circle back.
Maybe I'll check out NW some time in 2028, right before the SC launch.

My look at NW for joining at the end of next year might get extended to 2023, but not for seven years...you can overcook an Xmas dinner you know.
