i played MO1 a bit and it just wasn't good. Graphics, netcode, combat.. But i have now over 1k hours in MO2 and it's just so much fun. It's still a niche game but no game out there that has the immersion and fun encounters this game can offer.
I can understand that ppl say it's not finished, because it isn't. But keep in mind that there is just a small indie dev team from sweden behind this and what they put together already is just awesome. 100+ players combat with good performance and no major dupes/bugs like NW had.
This game will never be finished but if you know how a sandbox game works and if you can find fun in this kind of game, the monthly sub is every cent worth it.
The netcode in MO2 is nice !
Love the game. Here a guide about everything you need to know about the game.
Cool, 3 comments from 3 people that apparently have never played the game, despite multiple free stress tests etc, declaring a game a failure a week before launch despite it having 76% positive recent reviews (only people who've bought it since it went into EA on Steam a couple months ago, so hardcore fans not included) on Steam:
Are these signs of a broken incomplete dumpster fire? Maybe check it out before you decide to declare it DOA. Steam has a 2 hour refund window, go nuts.
I'd like to point out that Mortal is designed in a way that its not really enjoyable within the first 2 hours without friends.
The concurrent players before the wipe is a good fun indicator but players are probably using this time to learn how best to get ahead early before launch on the same map in a sandbox setting, which is bad given the long beta period. This advantage alone will shorten the time before MO2 becomes MO1 since the normal server-wide exploration period at the launch of a game will have happened in a wiped Beta under the guise of testing the map. Players will then establish themselves faster than in MO1 and hunt sooner. Sounds fun but new player problems are kinda within view, thinking ahead.
As for the reviews, those are often coordinated by fans or even devs at the beginning. I'd give the game some more time after launch before examining reviews.
For those who say they like MO2 better, I'm curious how the combat has supposedly improved because I'm hearing from several people that it feels roughly the same.
MO1 was faster and much more clunky. It was way more niche and the balance was horrible. Now you have a pretty good balance and the combat is easy to learn but still hard to master. It feels way more polished and the slower swings are better for players with bad ping.
